  • In this fused glass tutorial, I'll be sharing with you a simple technique to make a stunning bowl. I'm making a Japanese bowl shape, but you could make it any shape. In the video, I call it a Chinese bowl, but I believe it's actually a Japanese bowl shape. Anyway, it's a bowl.

    This is my dream, have a kiln and doing art like this. I love glass ever since I was a child. My treasure where glass marbels from my dad and a peace of blown glass I bought on a glassmanufactor. I started engraving when I was a teen, I came back to it. Now I have a microwave kiln and I love it...but it makes hungry for more. Maybe one day I will have made my dream come true.

      Hi Mea. All my kilns are Paragon.
      Mainly use a CS (Clam Shell) 16. That opens on the top and the whole body like a clam shell. Great for assembling in the kiln and for cracking open to see progress.
      Also use a Fusion 14 which is top opening only.
      Also have a SC2 but that's mainly for small work like Anns jewellery.

    Would it be possible to use dichro squares on top or bottom. Will the glass fuse to the top of dichro glass with a tac fuse. How about iridescent glass on front or back. Will glass stick to the iridescent or luminescent glass. Enjoy your videos. Thank you.

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  2 роки тому

      Hi Diane. I don't see a problem, as long as you don't have two dichro or iridescent sides together. Dichro on dichro won't fuse. I've tack fused dichro and iridescent glass so you shouldn't have a problem. As usual, if in doubt do a test. Hope this helps.

    Well done! My favorite of your videos thus far! I wonder if the project could be made without negative spaces between the pieces, possibly with a colored or clear substrate below both layers to close the open open spaces between pieces? Could stringers or noodles be employed to create a "plaid" effect? That may be a very interesting project for you to consider. Many thanks!

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  3 роки тому

      Mmm! Clear would be okay, it keeps the colour popping. And a tack fuse only to keep the texture. Not sure how to do the plaid effect, though you could just lay stringers across if you have it solid underneath. Interesting!

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  3 роки тому

      Hi Nancy. Sorry, I normally would give inches as well. Not quite back in the swing yet. Yes, that is millimeters. The space between squares is 10 mm (approx. .4 inches) the square 30 mm (1.2 inches) and overall size 270 mm (10.6 inches). You can make the square any size, but make the gaps 1/3 on the square size. The overall is up to you. Hope this helps.

    -Dean

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  2 роки тому

      Hi Dean. You'll have fun with fusing. Nothing like melting the hell out of some glass. You can certainly ask questions. Love to help if I can. No, don't wash with borax. Just use a natural-based glass cleaner spray, clean teatowels, and elbow grease. A spray with the least amount of harsh chemicals. Works fine for me. Sometimes get a little devitrification (crystallised glass on the surface) but very little. Not sure what Comet is. I'm in Australia so I assume you're in USA and it's a cleaning product. Hope this helps.

      @@brandiklepfer5810 Yes, 10 mm apart. That's a bit under 1/2 inch. But you can make it any size you want. My approach was making each piece 3 times the gap so it overlapped each piece the same amount as the gap. So a 30 mm piece with a 10 mm gap overlapped each piece 10 mm. But you could make it 1/2 inch gap with each piece 1 1/2 inches square. If it's too big for your mould, reduce the number of columns and rows. Hope this helps.
