  • AROUND THE RADIO DIAL-JULY 25-29, 1970
Around The Radio Dial-July 25-29, 1970. In the 1960s and 1970s, I often recorded brief airchecks of mostly AM radio stations I could pick up on my radio in New England, as an audio time capsule of what was being broadcast around the dial at that moment. Note that I originally uploaded a version of this, with just my July 26 airchecks, in 2017 and it has received 506 views and seven likes. I am replacing that version with this upgraded version. I went back to my original recording for a bit of a better copy, as well as added three more aircheck snippets I’ve collected from this period. Here is some of what you would have heard over the radio between July 25-29, 1970:
July 25, 1970: WCFL (Chicago) Barney Pip Show. A more toned down Barney than I remember from the heyday of my listening to his show nightly circa 1967-68. WCFL is in the middle of a Solid Gold Weekend.
July 26, 1970: WRKO (Boston) Chris Bailey Show.
July 26, 1970: WABC (New York) Jay Reynolds Show leading into Dennison Men’s Clothier spot. Jim Nettleton is filling in for Jay.
July 26, 1970: WAVZ (New Haven) Mystery Trip promo and Three Dog Night Pepsi spot.
July 26, 1970: WPOP (Hartford) Million Dollar Weekend.
July 26, 1970: WKBW (Buffalo) Two versions of station jingle.
July 26, 1970: WPTR (Albany) News lead-in with Vietnam headline.
July 29, 1970: WABC (New York) Jay Reynolds Show. Jim Nettleton is filling in for Jay.
July 28, 1970: WCFL (Chicago) Scotty Brink Show. Spot for the Great Midwest Fair with entertainment ranging from Bobby Vinton, the Young Americans to Art Linkletter, Ronald McDonald and the Hee Haw Show.
July 29, 1970: CHUM (Toronto) Tom Rivers Show. Apparently, folks in the Great White North were buying up Coppertone as they prepared to listen to the Top 300 on CHUM.
