- CROCHET THE ROUND YOKE CARDIGAN FOR BABY OR ANY SIZE // SS208
Hi Crochet Friends!
This week's tutorial is one that has been in high demand and it's finally here! So many have commented that you really enjoyed the Crochet Quick Chat I did on how to construct a round yoke top and have been asking for an actual project tutorial to go with it. And here it is!
Using the round yoke method, we will be creating a baby cardigan for size 0 - 6 months and I also discuss how you can size this for anyone using the round yoke method I use. Hope you find it fun and easy and straight forward.
I forgot to mention the yarn weight in the video! It's a medium 4 weight yarn:)
Let me me know if you liked this and if you have any other questions about the round yoke top. I'm very happy to help!

I just found your channel! Ty so much for the tutorial! 🥰
Thank YOU so much for your comment:)
Very cute and easy!
Yes! that's wonderful to hear you found it so:) Thank you!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you so much 💓
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you very much for this cardigan tutorial that allows us to use the yarn and hook size we want. I have been searching for so long for a tutorial that explains things in centimeters or inches instead of saying "chain this number for this size", because nobody has the same tension even if two people were to use the same yarn and hook size.
Yes! you got it! I want to give people the freedom to be able to figure out their desired sizing. Glad you enjoyed this:)
Love the tutorial! Just did my little sweater but do have a question - how did you do the buttonhole at the top?
Ah great question! I didn't actually "make" the button hole. My button was small enough that I could insert it in the space between stitches;)
I'm really loving these classes.
I do have a question. When doing the measurements for the arm depth & chest don't you have to take into consideration the ease by adding 1 or 2 inches?
I'd hate to have baby pinched in the pit area & squeezed to death in the chest.
I'd love to have more information. Thank you for these wonderful classes.
Hi there! Yes you are 100% right about ease for garments. Adding for ease will really depend on your gauge. You will see that in some of my cardigan tutorials I sometimes add a chain or two when joining to create the arm holes.
However, I find that with crochet, the item tends to stretch over time and I have an average to loose gauge so I've never had an issue. If you are a tighter crocheter, I would definitely recommend adding 1, up to 3 chains when joining for your arm holes. This will give a nice bit of ease under the arms and around the chest.
Let me know how your project goes. I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.
Enjoy!
@@TheStitchSessions Thank you for the explanation. Your answer has actually cleared up a lot of issues I had with my tops. I'm using the bean stitch with the Herringbone Hdc. It's turning out adorable.
Thank you again!
@@houseceo2426 Oooh those stitches are nice! They are also likely to cause a bit of "shrinking" since they eat up a bit of yarn, so I would recommend using the extra few chains at the armholes. Let me know how you make out. 👍
Thank-you for this tutorial it's exactly what I was looking for! 🙂 I was wondering what neck circumference you would you use for a 9 month sweater and a 12 month sweater since you used 12 inches for the 6 month? So what would be your ideal initial chain length? Thanks again, greatly appreciated
Hi there! I would recommend checking out my sizing chart for babies, which will give you the measurement you are looking for. You can find it on the tools page.

❤❤❤
thank you so much:)
Another great video tutorial. Almost done watching it. Coincidentally, I sketched a pattern yesterday based off of a normal top I have with a round neck style. It's a tailored top. I wanted to crochet it however, the round yoke issue came up! 😔. Getting an accurate measurement and how to go about it. Then your tutorial notification 🔔 popped up this afternoon and it was a ROUND YOKE TUTORIAL! 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️❤️❤️💃🏿🤸🏾♀️. So! To get my measurements all I have to know first is neck circumference which will then determine the starting chain count, right? I use the craft council measurements. However, I tend to follow my own body measurements if making for myself. Does that mean no need to make a GAUGE SWATCH? Since it's top down not bottom up crochet like I normally would do? APOLOGIES FOR THE LONG WRITE UP! I hope sincerely I'm not bothering you with all these questions? 👆🏾🙏🏾.
Tricia! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It excites me to know that these tutorials are giving you some clarity on how to create your own projects. Isn't it funny how when you are looking for something it suddenly appears like your round yoke project;) Yes, on the neck circumference. Just remember if you are making a pullover, you might want to use your head circumference so you can pull the sweater over your head. A gauge swatch is always helpful but if you skipped it on this one, I think you would be fine. Keep me posted on how you make out!
@@TheStitchSessions You're welcome, Karen. The tutorials have really been a big help! That's true, somethings just happen that way, ☺. Ohhh! Head circumference instead of neck circumference for pullovers, GOT IT 👍🏾! A gauge swatch huh... Maybe I should make one and see the difference in the chain count after my calculations. Thanks so much! 🤗 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
🎉❤
I love your channel and this 1 piece sweater, but the problem I had in the arm was as I made the rounds the sleeve became a little bell shaped even with the decreases. What can I do to correct this as yours didn't look like it happed. Look forward to your solution.
Thank you.
Hmmm sounds like you needed to decrease more often to bring down the opening to be closer to your wrist size. Hope that makes sense. If you can take a photo of it and email it to me at info@crochetcrafty.com perhaps I can have a closer look at it and see what’s happening there. I’m happy to help :-)
❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤
Its hard to get the second loop out in this herringbone stitch...can v make it with simple double crochet in this pattern?
You absolutely can use a regular double crochet stitch. 👍
Where can I find the bootie pattern
Could you tell me what size crochet hook and how many chains you started with on the orange fleck loops and threads yarn? Thanks
Hi there! I used the same hook size as I did for the green which is a 6.o mm Hook. (aka J/10) Hope that helps!
I loved this however if you were to do a six year old child, how many chains would i need? Sorry i dont understand how to convert the inches to stitches, and aldo to get the depth for the armholes? Thank you 👏🏼
Hi Sally! If you consult the kids sizing chart linked here you'll get the measurement across the neck needed. It stated it in both inches and centimetres.
www.crochetcrafty.com/pdf/Kids-Crochet-Garment-Sizing.pdf
Then you work up a chain until you get that measurement. I also recommend you watch this video as well for a little extra help: ua-cam.com/video/8pOtEOhvD5M/v-deo.htmlsi=RwAcDXga1yIVLNxK
I hope this offers you some clarity.
@@TheStitchSessions thank you so much 😊👏🏼
@@sallyal5266 my pleasure. Please let me know if you have any other questions. good luck!
What measurements would you suggest for a Preemie baby please
Hi Lea, I think my baby sizing chart would be a great help to you. I would follow the 0 - 3 month measurements for a preemie. Just click this link for the chart. Hope it helps!

3 year old baby saiz told mi
Can i put dc instead of herrington after 2rows on the neck part?
Hi Shaze, You sure can!:)
How many chains would I do for a 6-9months old plz? I can't for the life of me work out how many chains etc I need to do
Hi there! In the description of this tutorial, there should be a link to a sizing chart for children and what you would do is look for the age range that you are going to Crochet for and it should tell you the back of neck measurement that you need. Once you have that measurement, you will chain up however many chains you need to get to that measurement and then continue following the instructions as indicated. Hopefully that makes sense? I’m happy to help if you still get stuck. Just let me know.
3 ea
What weight of yarn
It's a medium 4 weight yarn.
I want it i want 3 yaar baby work
Hi there! I would recommend you download this size chart and then follow the instructions exactly the same as in the video.
www.crochetcrafty.com/pdf/crochet-toddlers-garment-sizing-chart.pdf
If you start with 50 stitches and you skip one in the first row then you have 49 at end od row,you said you had 50stiches.
Hi Margaret, I actually chained one more after the 50 so that I could skip one and still have 50 sts. I did say that in the video but it was said fairly quickly so it’s easy to miss. Hope this helps clear things up a bit better.👍
HOW TO MAKE THE BOOTIES
Hi Ancieto! You can find the tutorial to the matching booties here: ua-cam.com/video/Vqi-pNj3ji0/v-deo.htmlsi=_FPiexU9u6ZYfYsz.
Enjoy!
