PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT The way this square yolk is made so its not wide at the neck as to slip down the baby's shoulder or be too gappy at the neck. THE 1st round the corners are shared by the stitches. Even though you are making corners on the VERY FIRST ROUND there is NO INCREASE. YOU will have 50 stitches after round 1. go into each corner with 2 stitches a chain and 2 stitches you WILL be INCREASING BY 16 NOT 8 AS I SAID IN THE VIDEO Only Round 7 will increase by 8
    the rows are as follows
    row 1 - 50 stitches row 2 - 66st row 3 - 82st row 4 - 98st row 5 - 111st row 6 - 126st row 7 - 135st I do apologies for the mistake.

On row 1 you should have 50 stitches then increase 16 stitches each row up to and including row 6 gives the following
    Row 2 -66 st
    Row3 - 82st
    Row 4 - 98st
    Row 5 - 114st
    Row 6 - 130st
And row 7 is only an increase of 8st giving 138st
I hope this helps others who bare confused by the video

I started making cArdigans about 4 years ago. I just learned top down method this past year or two. I made afghans, hats, scarves, baby blankets, etc. for about 40 years. Then I stopped crocheting for 10 years due to arthritis. NowI crochet all day and my hands are better than ever. The movement seems to help. Anyway, I just wanted to say how making garments opens up a whole new world of crochet!!

Hi Allison , have just finished the cardigan , love the edging , also like how you did the sleeve , I made one before this one , and on each round of the sleeve you had to turn your work , I wasnt happy with the seam , but had no problem with your sleeves .Thanks again .

Thanks Alison. I'm very new to crocheting and with my first grandson coming along, I'm excited to move on from scarves, hats, and granny square blankets. This pattern, with your excellent and clear instructions will move me up a notch or two. Getting started right away!!!

Hi can you make it smaller for premature babies?

  • @MoTheCat3

Dear Alison, I tried your project right away as I have been wanting a simple but nice pattern. However, I found I did not get the same stitch count each round if I did 2 dbl, ch1, 2 dbl, in the corners. I kept coming up 16 stiches over instead of 8. So I went back to round 2 and just did 1dbl, ch1, 1dbl and then my count matched. Now I am stuck on round 7 trying to figure out how to only have 94 total stitches.

Mo it only increases by 8 stitches from the 2nd row even though you do 2 one chain and 2 into the corners. Because you use the same chain space to make the 1st set of corners. you should have 50 stitches after the 1st row then 58 and so on. (It might be easier to say do 6 trebles then make a corner in the next stitch, then 10 trebles then a corner) but you still have 50 stitches because the very 1st round each corner is counted as part of the line. Try it again as in the video for your 1st round count your stitches it should be 50, then do your 2nd round with the 2 one chain and 2 in each corner count your stitches and it will be 58 stitches on the 2nd round, 3rd row will be 66 4th will be 74 5th will be 82 6th will be 90 THEN do row 7 which is only 1 stitch 1 chain 1 stitch in each corner. Doing it this way keeps the square neck from being to wide around the baby's neck and wont slip of their shoulders.

I agree, I’ve found it’s increasing by 16 the way I’m working it. I don’t get how she’s coming up with her stitch count. I have Row 1 50
      Row 2 66
      Row 3 82
      Row 4 98
Row 5 114 and row 6 130. Don’t want to frog my hard work 🥹

I’ve had the same problem. I actually froze the screen and counted the stitches and each side increases by4 not 2???

    • @kkelly3047
      @kkelly3047 Рік тому

@@charliepercy2923 I’ve now completed 2 of these and both get the same stitch count and increase of 16 not 8 following the instructions given. I’m sticking with my figures as detailed above from now on to complete more as I know it works.
