Saw Regina play the Sydney Opera House barefoot and without makeup. She is beautiful and obviously a musical genius. One of those moments in life you remember forever.
I just love how she incorporates these odd sounds into her songs and makes them sound like music. And also how she really interacts with the crowd (my favourite instance being when she played the flowers on lollapalooza 2007). She must be so much fun to be around. Yet she still manages to plunge herself into a wave of emotion when she plays. She just gets so "into" the music and puts a part of herself into it. I couldn't have picked a better artist for my favourite.
I adore how everyone's chatting at the beginning and then she starts playing and everyone shuts up. Spektor's is one of those voices you have to stop and listen to, I think that's what's so beautiful about it. ^^
"God I pity the violins!" I do too now. And I pity the rowboats and masterpieces too. . . I shall forever feel sad when I go to a museum. But the saddest part seems to the the violins, like Regina says. "They've forgotten, forgotten how to sing" I can't help but have those lines repeat in my head. . .
I hate to be the person that says "I like her old stuff better", but I've been a fan since 2003 when I saw her live, and her charm was the fact that she was not only gorgeous, but made music with a STOOL and her funny and unique voices. I still love her and her amazing lyrics, but THIS is the Regina I fell in love with. She didn't need fancy producers.
I love how she does the "Padadada dum" thing in the piano intro with the extra dumdums. Like "Padadadada dum dum padadadada dumdum". This is a great version
Can anyone do something???? Regina Spektor has recorded more songs in her short life than most artists do in a lifetime. And the quality is stunning. But the only place we can get most of her repertoire is here on UA-cam. That, however, is tricky, because songs get lost. So if anyone can come up with a suggestion on how to deal with this unbearable situation, I'd be grateful.
I love the way Regina re-works some of her old songs for her new albums. Like Dance Anthem and Folding Chair on "Far". I have live recordings in my library, and I'm always excited to see a studio version of a song I already know and love!
dude supposedly your the reason this song is on the new record. she mentions she forgot about this song until she saw a youtube clip featuring this song. thanks from me and many other regina fans :)
I listened to this once I loved it, I listened to it twice it amazed me, I listened to it the third time and that was when this song became an obsession. :)
This song gives me the shivers...... seriously, and not many songs do that. It is beautiful in a morgue way, yet I can't stop listening to it, every time I listen it affects me more. Well Done ReSpekt ( c :
I love all the Regina Spektor song's I've heard so far!!! ^^ ^^ ^^ Now I'm trying to listen to all the ones I havn't heard yet, thank you so much for posing all of these songs!!! ^^ ^^ ^^
As a lover of history and things which are old, I completely understand what she's saying if this song is interpreted to be discussing the old things which no one seems to care about.
It's so cool that you put so many of her more unknown songs here - thanks to you I'm completely rediscovering regina spektor :) It doesn't sounds logical, but her songs are so crazy that they make me cry!
I'm shocked, this is in 2003? Imagine being a nobody as barely anyone knows your name. You ascend upon the stage, sits down at the piano and starts off with a masterpiece like this. What was the audience thinking? God she's bound to be a star!
Goddamnit, this song is great but I don't think I will be able to go to museums without feeling mournful again... ...It's worth it. *clicks play again*
I love how Regi hasn't ruined the song by re recording it (although it's probably impossible for her to do that) However I think I prefer this version to the new one... Does anyone else get the urge to call her Regina baby? Just me? Oh.
I guess when you look at things this way, museums do sound almost like mausoleums, phonetically and in what they actually are. I guess violins 'are' meant to be played so when locked up in a museum they might as well me dead. Museums will forever have a hint of sadness to me, those poor paintings unable to decide their fates, all those faces trapped in eternity, instruments without voices, statues presented to be coldly criticized by a thousand eyes. Of course, this doesn't make artists monster
Hi dotheblu, here are a few more to look out for; 'Pound of Flesh-aka 'If you're never sorry', 'Genius next door'(released today on "Far", 'Aquarius', 'My Man' and 'Love Affair' all Live. If you go to ReSpekt Online you will be so happy cos there are so many live sets of hers & I'll leave rest to you to discover. I'm a big fan of Regina's but sometimes people get obsessed with Stars when imo everyone can write songs & it's scary but u can play them to others/yourself if wanted. We're growin tho
I mean he may have some stuff you already have, or don't like etc. so u can keep what you like & get rid of the rest. Slicknick1986 is the guy who posted this song but there is 'Spektography' who puts up loads too. Peace& out for now.x
Hi dotheblu, so glad to hear you play. Keep it up. Music is it's own reward. Robert Fripp quote;"Music so wishes to be heard that it calls on unlikely character's to give it voice". Thing is he was tone deaf at 11, yet today has done so much for music, played & produced on 40+ albums and been involved in major projects that have changed Guitar forever. 'All the Rowboats' is not on Cd but it may be on ReSpekt Online. Also msg Slicknick1986 and subscribe to his channel& edit it if u need. Peace.g.

Regina Spektor is the only one in the world who could make up song about the complexity of a painting and have it be wonderful. Beautiful.
I just love how she incorporates these odd sounds into her songs and makes them sound like music. I like this version much more than the one in the album.
I adore how everyone's chatting at the beginning and then she starts playing and everyone shuts up. Spektor's is one of those voices you have to stop and listen to, I think that's what's so beautiful about it. ^^
I'm so jealous of how easy she makes it look to put all of her weird ideas into perfect songlyrics. Pure genious.
she is brilliant
"God I pity the violins!"
I do too now. And I pity the rowboats and masterpieces too. . . I shall forever feel sad when I go to a museum.

I love how she talks to her audience while shes doing songs sometimes, it makes you feel acknowledged by her brilliance
@JackDenialsWingman I was excited when I saw that. This is my third favorite Regina song, behind Ne Me Quitte Pas and Mermaid.
I love how she does the "Padadada dum" thing in the piano intro with the extra dumdums. Like "Padadadada dum dum padadadada dumdum". This is a great version
This is the best version, so amazing.

i love how she treats her audiences like they're her friends. just another reason to love her. :]
Came back to write when I heard her say:
"There's more stuff I hear in my head than what you guys are hearing right now" .....
This is why I love her.
This version is so much freaking more like the real Regina. And I love it.
I love the way Regina re-works some of her old songs for her new albums. Like Dance Anthem and Folding Chair on "Far".
I have live recordings in my library, and I'm always excited to see a studio version of a song I already know and love!
I heard this is going to be on the new 2012 album! WOO!
She's done that too me with her whole catalog. I listen to her constantly.
The new version is great, but I just love the piano in this one
I now see why people say this version is better than the new version! it's simpler
i love the way she says "here's your ticket welcome to the tombs", i have the sweetest image of the way she says it in my face x
dude supposedly your the reason this song is on the new record. she mentions she forgot about this song until she saw a youtube clip featuring this song. thanks from me and many other regina fans :)
This is my very favourite of all her songs so far, although it's hard to pin down a single favourite from all her wonderful stuff
hey! i can play this song flawlessly as she does in this recording... thanx so much for posting!
quirky, beautiful, simple, refreshing.
she is truly amazing.
bbaa!! i love her shes just great!
all of her songs are incredible!
they are all telling a story!
i really love her mind!
I listened to this once I loved it, I listened to it twice it amazed me, I listened to it the third time and that was when this song became an obsession.
:)
I love this song, why is it so rare?!!??!
it's beautiful.
One of Regina's best : ) love this
This song gives me the shivers...... seriously, and not many songs do that.
It is beautiful in a morgue way, yet I can't stop listening to it, every time I listen it affects me more. Well Done ReSpekt

Every time I go to write a comment on Reginas profound music you have already said it..Regina is so wonderful that mere words cannot do her justice
I just found it too and can't STOP listening!! (:
So happy this is her new single!

regina is just amazing...love this song and regina :) !!
Just wonderful. Love the lyrics
As a lover of history and things which are old, I completely understand what she's saying if this song is interpreted to be discussing the old things which no one seems to care about.

This might be my new favorite song

It's so cool that you put so many of her more unknown songs here - thanks to you I'm completely rediscovering regina spektor :) It doesn't sounds logical, but her songs are so crazy that they make me cry!
Love this
first time i hear this song and i love it!
I agree
New single! wow!
I'm shocked, this is in 2003? Imagine being a nobody as barely anyone knows your name. You ascend upon the stage, sits down at the piano and starts off with a masterpiece like this. What was the audience thinking? God she's bound to be a star!
Genius lyrics!!
Really made me feel sad for the violins who will never sing again.
=(
Amazing!

Goddamnit, this song is great but I don't think I will be able to go to museums without feeling mournful again...
...It's worth it. *clicks play again*
Better than the album version......-3
But now it makes a lot more sense why says that bit at the beginning. I'm glad she made the version of the song that she heard in her mind.
it is. check it out on her vevo page :-) she got an awesome video and all :-)
@spaik007 she doesnt get embarrassed by her noises... they are awesome
BEST SONG EVER:):):)
She's soo funny and sweet and VERY imaginative..
I love how Regi hasn't ruined the song by re recording it (although it's probably impossible for her to do that) However I think I prefer this version to the new one...
Does anyone else get the urge to call her Regina baby? Just me? Oh.
Yay!!!
This is beautiful! Why isn't it more well known?
I know, that's what I was saying :3 I can't wait!
This song is amazingly depressing, but also amazing in general.
I have yet to find a Regi song, that I don't love! I've heard All her album-songs, but she's made so many that were never really published. So sad!
I guess when you look at things this way, museums do sound almost like

I consider her lyrics as the best lyrics in the world also with john lennon leonard cohen and bob dylan...shes my idol
Oh, thank you! xD
I second that on Loveology.
