This version is honestly so much better than the new one, Much more raw and emotional, and real. I went walking through NYC today and hummed this song.
This reminds me of when I was 27, and touring the world as a stage manager with modern dance and went to Amsterdam between performances. I got tired of Holland, so I took an overnight train to Paris. When I arrived in Paris at 5am, it was pouring down rain, and no hotel would take me because I looked a mess. But I didn't care, because I was in Paris for the first time in my life, and I knew I'd find a room, and I was loving the city in the rain. I forgot about that moment. Thank you, Regina!
I've been looking for this for so long! It was the version on the hand-me-down iPod that I inherited from my sister, and about ten years ago that iPod stopped working and I've been without this song ever since. The 2012 version is nice but it's not the same. Thanks so much!
@@JustPlainAwfulStreams I didn't mean mentioning the Disc "Far" I was using the expression "by far" that means that I like so much more than the newer versions in "What we saw from the cheap seats" 😉
she is actually the cutest person in the world. i can't get over how much i love her. ne me quitte...pas! she is just so adorable!! this song just had me smiling the whole time :)
I personally really adore Regina's new version of this. It's really cute. I like the extra personality and rawness in this version, but the newer one is still really sweet, and still feels like a Regina Spektor song, it just has more instruments instead of only piano. What We Saw From Cheap Seats alone is a full-blown success, in my eyes.
Wow, her voice has improved soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much in the last decade! And I don't mean just the quality... she's gotten so much more musically effective with her dynamics and phrasing. I noticed a big difference from Begin to Hope to Far, but I hadn't realized there'd already been so much change before that.
regina spektor knows exactly what to do to make sure that everyone of her songs give me butterflies on the inside! :3 she really is a MAGNIFICENT person
I don't know even know how she makes these songs that have a totally unique feel. She is a musical genious, in a few hundred years I hope she's remembered as we remember Bach, Handel, and the rest of the greats. This and 20 years of snow are the most unique songs I've ever heard.
If you are a dedicated fan of Regina you cannot "hate" what she does. I love them both i just listen to this version more often because for eleven years this was "ne me quttie pas" , and i'm nostalgic like that.
I would love to have an artistic girl like Regina. Sadly they are hard to come by so I sit here listening to her beautiful music dreaming of the day that may never come.
I always feel happy just because I find a song of Regina I haven't heard before. No matter if it's English, Russian or French... I love every single song sung by her. :3
I love the new version, but this is a nice change being one of her earlier pieces, it is so raw and unedited.. her voice has definitely matured tho ;) LOVE YOU REGINA X
This version was always my favorite. The new versions lost all the rawness, watered it down with all the added instruments. The little nuances of her vocals, the "ne...me...quitte...PAS" at the end felt spontaneous, to me that's what always made her music special.
I agree completely. Her earlier albums sound like they were recorded in an empty apartment with a mic and recorder. Her newer songs have the same feeling behind them but they are much higher production value and like u said are more radio friendly. Idk i kinda like the new Regina. although raw Regina is good too!
@sarabeararox actually, in french, the "me" is reflexive. so ne me quitte pas mon cher is "don't leave me my dear" "ne pas" is no and it goes around the subject "me" and the verb quitte "leave"
I think the vocal is better in the new version, and the new version shows a pop awareness. I'm not saying she's selling out, or anything, but the new album is much more radio-friendly than her previous efforts. I think you have to appreciate both versions for what they are.
Omg, i love this song!!! Ok, I say that about pretty much every Regina song, but I cant help it. This one is soo catchy and upbeat (even though the lyrics are odd). Plus its easy to play on the piano hehe
To all the people who say that she has become too 'mainstream' after hearing this song on what we saw from the cheap seats, HA you're thick, this song appeared on her second album songs. Let the hipsters say what they want, we all know regina was here before they even existed.

i am in love with this song. and just in case any was wondering "ne me quitte pas mon cher" don't leave my love. haha, unless everyone else knew that already.. i may just be dumb

i love the raw feeling this version has. and the extra chorus
Me too
I love singing this when I'm alone in my flat on sunday mornings, preferably while making avocado sandwitches. I love Regina forever.
Are u alive
And after 11 years, do you still do it?
@@huachimingo1989probably
Doing this right now
I was thinking the exact same thing..."In the gardens I got lost that is unless I'm getting found" was my absolute favourite line in the whole song
Love that third "I love" - she makes singing off-key sound so amazingly beautiful and cool!
I wish this album were on Spotify :(
It will be in 2 days
@@hdouwes6492 omg thank you!!
i miss this version... it's so simple, clean, carefree... it's just CUTE.
this was the version i was looking for :) love u regina
I love When she speaks in other languages:) Her voice is so pretty

I love early Regina. It's the embodiment of DIY.
So soft and sweet❤️

I love how her voice trills when she sings "love"
this goes great with rainy mood
I prefeer this version, than the "Newer" one by far
By Far? Wrong album, that one is on What We Saw From the Cheap Seats ;)
@@JustPlainAwfulStreams I didn't mean mentioning the Disc "Far" I was using the expression "by far" that means that I like so much more than the newer versions in "What we saw from the cheap seats" 😉
i love the way she turns simply piano sounding chords to magnificant pieces of fun, original songs:)

"Ne me quitte pas, mon cher, ne me quitte pas...." Its addictive, I cannot stop singing this, all day long!
I saw her play this live some time in the middle 00's. She kept the time by beating 8th notes on her piano with a drum stick. it was sick.
This is the forever version of “Ne me quitte pas” in my view.
There are other good singers too BUT what I love especially about Regina is her loving voice and soft nature.
regina spektor knows exactly what to do to make sure that everyone of her songs give me butterflies on the inside! :3 she really is a MAGNIFICENT person
Thank God. There's still some music to listen to here. See, it's not so bad! Here's Regina.

one of my favorite songs ever!
ne me quitte pas! i love it. this chick is the definition of original.
I can't remember when I instantly fell for a song as much as this!, Love it!, Such positive melody!, Weeds!

I'm so obsessed with this song right now.
This is the soundtrack of my teenagehood.
I absolutely love this. This song brings the smile that I needed today. =D
I love both versions of this song. Both have Regina's beautiful voice in them and that's all I need

Heard it on Weeds too! Terrific song! Reminds me of Joni Mitchel back in the day.

this song on S08 Ep.08 of weeds is the best song to ever appear in the show wow !
J'adore Regina Spektor!
