      @@RetroGameCorps Another great summary for newcomers and seasoned alike. One thing you could mention are primary and secondary units.
      Having a main gaming device and an accessory device. Sort of like playing your PS2 at home and PSP on the go, but more like having a bulky x86 for indoors which isn't replaced but complimented by a small ARM for outdoors. For me it's between two different types.
      Indoors/backpack/x86:
      Cheapest SteamDeck, or Fastest ROG Ally, or most expensive GPD Win-Max-2 are the standouts.
      Outdoors/pocket/ARM:
      Smallest RG353m, or faster RG405m, or the most functional Retroid Pocket 3+ are the standouts.
      Mix any one from either category, and you'll be having a great experience regardless. Be it the most budget option or the most expensive one. If you go with the RP3+ it almost acts like a second phone, which gives you the bonus option of using an iPhone, to cover both App ecosystems. And if you go with the GPD Win-Max-2, you can potentially forgo buying a Laptop as it makes for some sort of substitute, potentially being a (all-in-one device) useful benefit. Things worth mentioning in videos or summaries like these.

    • @mattb6522
      @mattb6522 Рік тому +9

      I totally agree! The clamshell is one of my personal favorites, too. I always worry about handhelds with exposed screen and sticks/buttons will get possibly damaged during transit somewhere.
      That is one reason I think the DS/3DS line just had great designs and I never worried about things getting damaged (well, unless you dropped it). Though, I would just want to make sure the hinges were sturdy so there would be little risk of snapping.

      Yep. Right now the only option is the Pocket Flip. There is the GPD Win Mini coming, but I doubt we'll see that in people's hands before this holiday season. I owned the Win 2, and it was pretty nice. Still not happy they went with those tiny sticks instead of some good sliders, but you can't have everything I guess. If you could I'd want sliders like the pocket flip and instead of a d pad it would have a click stick like on the old neo geo products.

    I was able to nab an RG505 a couple weeks ago for 135 bucks. Even if it's sort of the red-headed stepchild of the T618 set of devices, I'm very pleased and surprised with its performance. The oled screen pops in spite of the lower resolution, and the in-line shoulders aren't nearly as uncomfortable as I feared they might be. The RP3+ is probably still the easier recommend on account of the overall ergonomics, screen resolution, and HDMI out, but there's really no terrible choice with that chip in that price range.

      I love my RG505. I'd bought the RP3 (non-plus), and while I also really liked it, I just preferred the chunkiness of the 505, and the OLED screen made the games look fantastic. The GammaOS update was phenomenal for offering basically free power (stock OS had Dragon Force II only hitting 60 FPS using frameskip, Gamma OS had no frame skip at normal power profile at 60 FPS flawlessly), along with fixing the screen sharpness, and I absolutely do not regret my purchase at all. By all means, the RP3+ is a great purchase, but I think the 505 is, at this stage, a little underrated.

    • @coxxycabee

      Interesting. I am going to get the rg353m for portability even though I can get more power for less money if I buy the Retroid3+. My reasoning for getting the rg353m over the retroid3+ is because I need the best device that can fit in my tiny work uniform pockets. I'm glad that someone agrees with me! Once you have a steam deck, if you don't plan on bringing the retroid around, then you might as well sell it

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko Рік тому +1

      @@BrentonBold This.
      It's not about the specs on a sheet or theoretical aspects. It's about the overall experience in a real-world scenario.
      For MOST people the largest device they can fit into their pocket is the RP3+ which makes it the most common recommendation. If you have smaller pockets, the RG405m and RG353m become the next options. And if your pockets are even smaller (women's apparel), then there's really nothing good/great (RGnano, PowKiddy V40, Anbernic RG280v) to recommend but to use a purse. With a purse, in which case you can now bring larger devices. For men, it's usually toting a satchel or backpack. In those circumstances, it's almost always better to stow away the Valve SteamDeck or ASUS ROG Ally.
      But again, there are small nitpicks that people need to consider for their own personal use-case. Some niche device maybe a better option for them.

    How easy is it to get into emulation? I haven't done it since the late 2000s, only emulating 32bit on the PC.
