Today WGA Screenwriter Brooks Elms and I had a lengthy conversation about breaking into the industry, selling his first screenplay, and what he would've done differently if he was able to go back in time.

Loved the video it was amazing
Really interesting conversation. Keep it up
Awesome to see interviews like this on the channel! Keep up the great work.
Thanks! Will do!
Thanks for these videos! I’m in pre-production for my first short and this is really helpful! Some say to cut it short but I appreciate the whole discussion.
I love all of Brooks advice! Genuinely love the guy!
Thanks guys
There were some real gems in there; thanks.
thank you, great video
Brooks offers an amazing mentorship program. If you have money it could be for you.
Whoever said deadpan comedy is a dying art clearly hasn’t heard of you. Well done, mate!
Great interview.
Thanks for all Tyler, that’s it
Agree
Shoot a teaser. Dont just rely on screenplay. Its too much to ask. You have to get them interested right away. A teaser can do that.
I'm soaking up every word
Loved this vedio it was amazing
Can you make a short video overviewing what the key titles/positions are, there functions and why one might need to interact with them? both from the writer's perspective and the industry as a whole?
As someone that has only been a consumer of the industry, I don't really know much about the behind the scenes. Sure, I've heard of Directors and Producers, Agents, etc. However; I've never really seen or heard a holistic outlining. Its always positioned in a way that assumes you know who they're talking about.

Really helpful man!
If possible keep it bit short
Just a suggestion though🙃
What about people who have no friends of family in the industry
That's where nearly EVERYBODY starts. And then the game is to MAKE friends. Get into great conversations about your favorite films and TV shows and how you want to set the world on fire with your new vision for your favorite genres.
IF you do this, you will get Hollywood coming to YOU. I promise.
If you can't do this, you're not ready yet. And don't make any excuses because the power is in your hands.
What makes someone a "WGA Screenwriter?" Is it basically a union member?
Interesting guy.
You get into the guild by selling a script for a lot of money to a company that's a WGA signatory.
@@BrooksElms OK, you're saying union member. You could just join a few years back. Not very expensive then. I never saw a reason for me to join, though.
I sold my first short screenplay for $200. I've yet to sell a feature
you wont sell your first script because it will be garbage.
Tyler has no references he is a newbie and tries you to sell his own course. It is a making money strategy and you will learn crap from him. It works like a placebo you think you making progress but really you only learn techniques which are not worth to learn and also brings you up from learning your own style of creating new ideas and stories. He only made 1 script, he has not won any Filmfestival/Oscar etc. It is the same for most of the courses. You do not need any paid courses to get good in writing. Do not listen to this bullshit!!!
Well whatever he taught to his subscribers are good and reliable stuff ... It helped me in me personal...idk about u but I saw good things in him.. atleast he is trying to help.. if u know more care to teach? If not can u shut?.. What if he might be writing an Oscar worthy film without telling u huh don't act smart
Tyler has got well over 200K subscribers which proves a ton of people are learning a lot from him. Sometimes we'll learn best by a grandmaster, and sometimes we learn best by somebody one step ahead, or a peer, or by teaching somebody a step behind us. Choose the right people to learn from, at the right time, for you.
@@BrooksElms he is not a hack or something... People just need to bash on good stuff... He helped me alot
those who cant do, teach.
