I only discovered this two days ago, got a lot of catching up to do. I am amazed at what can be done if you have the will. And the priest Johannes! Wow! Makes me wish I was younger, then I would tackle renovations on my home myself! Wonderful to watch!
I've been watching this with my 7 year old, and he was enthralled by the wolf howling. After he said, "I'm actually kind of jealous of Martijn" and I said "me too!" 😀
Martijn, this is by far my favorite yet of your videos surrounding this cabin. You have an amazing ability to video yourself in these surroundings and make your viewers feel as if we are actually there with you. I was spellbound when you went out in the dark to listen to the wolf sounds and I did hear it! I can only imagine the thrill of actually being there in person to experience it. I think your talent could be used in film-making on a much bigger scale, which would likely make you a very wealthy man. However, I'm so thankful that you choose to live simply and to share this with us.
This episode just took my breath away. The wolf, the legend, the fog rising, the sufficiency of solar powered batteries and carried water, the stunning engineering of your boom, made it all look so simple. Thank you for sharing your inspirational life.
I rarely comment here on UA-cam, but have to say it. Love the authenticity and unique style of your videos! Very inspiring to see someone living totally off grid in our ever connected world. Plus these amazing sceneries.. keep it up!
I only started to follow your story 3 days ago (during isolation) and binged watched 1-12. I have to say I was at first a bit skeptical about the whole crane thing, and today realised how wrong I was. It all came together. Looking forward to seeing it done and put to good use. Well done. I'm forcing myself to watch episodes in a chronological order.
History is one of my favorite subjects. Stone will stay for ever, or almost for ever, but far longer than we could imagine. I am in the United States our oldest houses are a couple hundred years old, but made of wood and plaster. Some of the older cities with buildings made of brick still will not stand as long as the stone pulled from the earth and stacked like a puzzle. I have been to Sicily where my family is from and I just stare in awe of the history in the buildings standing for 1000 years or more. How many feet walked into them one couldn't imagine. Life is so short. Thank you Martijn.
I heard the Wolves singing in the darkness when you went outside. There is something so Primal and intimately Soul Stirring hearing real wild wolves howl. I closed my eyes and had a smile on my face listening to them.
The wolf howling scene followed by the music u put right after was f'ing dope bro. That whole thing was on a spiritual level and it comes thru watching, especially with headphones on. I dig that you mix in some real cinematography and good editing along with the diy storyline of your videos. Both making art constructing etc and making art in film in the way you present it. Super dope.
Wolf howls ~ cool...do you have to worry about them? Wow - they are getting closer and you can hear several of them. Get inside!! 😨 Nice pace with the repairs, love the peaceful enjoyment we can feel when you break for coffee and snacks.
These amazing, tranquil videos in and of themselves are so artfully composed. The fact that Martijn is simultaneously performing this elegant mountain restoration and making a documentary is astonishing. As a video editor myself, the wide variety of shots showing the beautiful landscape, detailed closeups of his design and construction skills, wonderful aerial views via his drone--I could go on--are so, so impressive. It feels like I'm part of his experience and cannot wait for the next episode.
Reminds me of my solo nights spent in the wilderness regions of Ukraine, Russia, Canada, the Alps, Jordan, Sinai, Italy etc. There is a closeness I always feel inside when I listen to a wolf 🐺 song drifting on the mountain winds.
@@ZAIDAAS99 Yes! They are also on the Sinai border and other parts of middle east. The Arabian wolf 🐺 is much smaller than the northern species. Hello Martijn, Watched your Grand Dad's Video, what a talented craftsman. Now we see where your varied building and innovative construction abilities come from! On the boom of the crane, my husband said a small ATV 12volt winch, with remote control instead of the Manual Hand Crank, would be easier for one man to control, quicker, safer under load with internal cable brake. He feels it would greatly reduce the project time of rock removal as well, Just something to consider! Your view is exceptional and even though I live in the Rockies in Canada the view is so different…yours is incredible. When you talked about your Grampa or father building g steam trains, it reminded me how my Grampa did as well. My uncle still has it and it still works. Thank you for your beautiful channel.
Bless the wolf - it looks like hungry country up in those bare mountains with not much prey to live on - I hope it finds its' pack as there are so much better survival prospects in a group, & wolves are very family oriented, caring for the pack young & old members alike.... they are very very beautiful animals Maybe Keep a flare handy for when you go up country on your on, in case you need to use surprise to defend & protect yourself..... Beautiful spot with that Rembrandt van Rijn palette of colours saturating the landscape - every one of those colours can be found in his self portraits.... Stay Well & Enjoy to the max.....

WOW, The sound of the wolves is truly special..... What a treat to be there and experiance it,,,, Awesome....
This is fast becoming one of my fave channels on you tube. Hearing wolves always makes my hair stand up, it’s such a mournful sound…isn’t it. We had two howling in our yard one day….it was chilling. Your view is exceptional and even though I live in the Rockies in Canada the view is so different…yours is incredible. When you talked about your Grampa or father building g steam trains, it reminded me how my Grampa did as well. My uncle still has it and it still works. Thank you for your beautiful channel.
Bless the wolf - it looks like hungry country up in those bare mountains with not much prey to live on - I hope it finds its' pack as there are so much better survival prospects in a group, & wolves are very family oriented, caring for the pack young & old members alike.... they are very very beautiful animals
Maybe Keep a flare handy for when you go up country on your on, in case you need to use surprise to defend & protect yourself.....
Beautiful spot with that Rembrandt van Rijn palette of colours saturating the landscape - every one of those colours can be found in his self portraits....
Stay Well & Enjoy to the max.....
I absolutely love your show. I’m a history teacher and I love to see the old buildings brought back to life.
How lucky you are to live in such a peaceful, spiritual place. You have made a wonderful home for yourself. Can't wait til your next video. Bev. USA. Washington State
