Julian honestly you saved my life. Thank you for your channel. I found your channel 3 years ago when I was in a really dark place in my life & struggling with the symptom. Your kind, reassuring voice started me on my journey back to wellness. Using your techniques helped me not only get my hyperacusis (with T in the beginning) under control but also learn to make it my friend. Only when I’m super stressed does it come back but it’s become my ‘stress alert’ system & makes me question what am I doing & start soothing myself again.
As I got better, the irony is that I watched your videos less & less, which is not an insult to you but I realised that I was learning to let go of my T & now I’ve lost my obsession with the symptom. It’s been one hell of a ride & it’s actually made me a better, more empathetic person not only to others but myself.
Honestly between your videos & your book you helped turn my health around & you deserve a medal for all the work you do.
And everyone else, don’t let the docs tell you it can’t be cured. Most don’t understand the symptom & can cause you a lot of distress. Learn to reconnect with your body & soothe your nervous system and your T will fall away eventually.
    Thank you Julian.

For most people, and actually everyone who I've spoken to in real life (not online), tinnitus has got better or they stop being bothered by it. This has happened to me and there is a high chance it will happen for you too. Just give it time. You can't force acceptance.

Absolutely correct Billy! It's called habituation. I got terrible tinnitus at the end of April 2018. Last summer was terrible! Here I am, a little over a year later, and it's no problem anymore. Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Either way, it's totally non bothersome. What a difference a year has made!

@@shelkatz It's not habituation. Tinnitus is primarily somatosensory, and it's caused by abnormal excitation of the fusiform cells in the DCN. As the brain learns to deal with this the T starts to diminish. It's the difference why T isn't a problem for most people and much smaller percentage of those suffer from it. It's also why T retraining see's a success rate of 85%. For most people it last 6-18 months anyway. For many it's bad enough there is no habituation, only death.

I got mine in March 2017 and in those first 2-5 months I was a nervous wreck. When it got to the 10th month range it stopped bothering me. Looking back today, I wonder to myself why I stressed so much over something that I no longer care about.

Secret Guy good to know as I’m 5 weeks in. As far as the death part of your answer, I’m not too keen on that aspect but I’ve heard that some people have thought about it. I’m not one of them.

I would like to express my gratitude for your videos. They've been incredibly helpful. You're among the very few people who's able to talk about tinnitus in a reasonable way.

Thank you for this. So simple and yes I can see where it would be helpful. I am going through a very rough patch with the tinnitus, because my sleep is awful, up half the night, difficult relations with family (fortunately they do not live with me! or I'd go insane). But the emotional stress has been constant for months.
I also had two months of repeated dental procedures, and all the stress of that, now over I think. Trying to get into bed hours earlier and I found lovely music that helps enormously, soft jazz for sleep UA-cam videos, and they give me a positive feeling, like being on holiday. I can still hear tinnitus over the music, because if I play it too loud it keeps me awake,
so I must set it at low volume, but it does soothe my anxiety and stress. I will do this exercise many times a day. Thank you for all you do for the tinnitus community, Julian.

I find it so bizarre that T is such a common condition yet Julian's videos only have so few people watching them.

    • @SpieroMusic

It is very common, yes. But Only a small percentage of people who have it are genuinely bothered by it.

When I wake in the morning the anxiety begins because I can hear the T. As I feel that rush of Adrenalin I immediately do this exercise and it calms me down. I do yoga so breathing is part of the practice so I’m already familiar with it. Thank you again, Julian.

Oh, for all reading, here is another idea to help with stress from tinnitus, that I am trying: I just ordered a small rebounder, also called a trampoline. It is small, not a very large one, used either indoors or outdoors. I am looking forward to it arriving, and using it. It is something one can use multiple times a day, for low impact exercise that is fun, easy, and appropriate for all ages, and all fitness levels. I will update this comment after I have used it for a couple of weeks. (They range in price from very affordable to very pricey. Mine was only $35 U.S. dollars, on ebay)

Thank you so much for Jullian! your videos and encouragement. You are God sent for people with no hope. Ringing in my left ear (which has gradually moved to my right ear)a month ago when my nose was blocked with cold and I was very stressed those days. First five to six days was 24/7 ringing in my left ear that I could not sleep sleep at all than on the sixth day it started to fade away night 4 to 5 hours. I am on 2nd course of antibiotics for ear infection which developed after the ringing started. Antibiotics didn't help even though my ear infection is gone. Doctor has given me steroids (predoisone 5mg tablets 8 tablets in the morning ) for a week. Could you please advise should i take it or not?.
Also I have noticed that ringing will go down at night time so I am getting good few hours of sleep but every day when I wake up ringing is there. I want to ask you when we sleep our body is at rest than why I still wake up with ringing in my ears? Please reply
