I guess going with a landscape framing could have helped the expansive feel of the place, oh and you could do a follow up painting to this one, only you would explore the civilization of survivors, that might be really interesting!
Yeah maybe another piece for the other side of the story. That's a great point actually. Many people suggest adding humans to this composition, but this way it would just become a crowded confusing mess. Not telling any side of the story well
@@BoroCG i agree, it does feel like you just got trapped without many options for escape, it still wouldn't hurt to make a landscape iteration, might be interesting.. Oh and about the people drawing, i remember watching an animated video by Lord Bung here on yt, i recommend u check it, might also be a good reference to start!
This is so awesome, I love this scp! The only thing id recommend is maybe trying a landscape picture, but I know it’s a big change and you mentioned that your main focus is the employees. However a big part of this scp is the aspect of the ikea being infinite and no matter how far you go it’s desolate of human life. And a landscape picture could showcase the hugeness of the ikea, and also make the employees look super cool! Either way, the thumbnail for this video instantly caught my eye and looks super interesting!
I think the first thumbnail has the best feeling of 'infinite' space as there are no eye stoppers on the sides of the image. I also think fewer employees would create a better feeling of space and not having them all face forward would be better. I am addicted to your videos. Thanks
You know what would be an amazing inspiration for this subject: *Giovanni Battista Piranesi's art.* He was an 18th-century renaissance man, who's most well known for his artworks that depict "infinite spaces".
I actually prefer the first one, I think it's alot more mysterious with the guys farther away, it's more intimidating and creepy. But hey I'm nto the one painting it, go ahead with what you feel works the best!
Maybe think about including actual humans in the picture to emphasise by contrast that this is not just a weird stylistic choice and the "employees" are actually non-human.
Thank you, that's a good point. But I think It will be clear what it is with final detail. I just don't want any humans hanging around next to these guys. Put in one picture at once, the place will feel crowded, and I want isolation with monsters.
Ahmad Jammoul here proposed making a second picture later, showing the story. I think this is the right approach. I want to present the SCP right now. Its nature and the feeling of sterile isolation. Later I may show how people survive in it - but it's a different story.
@@BoroCG that sounds like a good plan. ☺ You could always put human-proportioned furniture in the image to contrast with the non-human proportions of the "employees".
Man, thanks for granting my wishes (another scp painting). Anyway maybe try adding some visual of the survivor that camped within the ikea (just a suggestion). Can't wait for the finished version.
This looks really cool! Your shapes are so clean and interesting! I think I prefer the first thumbnail because from your description I got a feeling of a huge space and the first thumbnail shows that better. But since your focus is more on the creatures than the space, the one you chose works better.
The thumbnails were great! Love to see you keep improving them and using parts of the others thumbnails together. Maybe you should do some color keys moving forward just to search for a color palette and use the same method of improving them based on the others. The other useful think with color keys is that you can make outlandish test with crazy colors that you may never have choosen otherwise because it's not the final image.
For a few weeks I'm reading a lot of these, it's just insane how creative some people can be about creating paranormal stuff. Glad to see you draw one of them !
I missed this when you first posted it. Glad I found it - this is ace! Looking forward to seeing your workflow as the black widow series was reall entertaining. Also good music choices.
Hey boro, The thumbnails are great. I just wanna say what I think: I feel like all the thumbnails are a bit too Crowded, like the composition itself is crowded with the inhuman figures which I noticed was a general pattern across all thumbnails, There isn't any room to breathe. For me, if I wanted to capture the feeling of suspense and horror, I'd go for the perspective of someone who just entered IKEA and saw one of these creatures for the first time, so maybe a wide shot with an inhuman figure in the distance, clearly human but just not... right, you can't make out all the details but you know something is wrong here. that's the scenery I'd go for. Having multiple of these creatures in a single shot doesn't let you take in the individual details in these horrifying creatures, especially in the crowded expanses of SCP-3008.
Thanks for new interesting video Boro! It's always interesting to watch how you're creating your arts and explaining art tips! Good luck with doing what you're doing! :)
I really liked the top right thumbnail to be honest. If there’s too much ceiling, you could have one of the creatures holding a balloon like in all the reference photos
The idea of being stuck in am infinite Ikea is absolutely terrifying. After about an hour i am overwhelmed and ready to leave. Also imagine only being able to eat the cafeteria food there. That would get really old fast.
This video gave me "INSIDE" vibes, the sequel game to Limbo. Maybe cuz the dudes don't have faces but also the general aesthetic of it. Great work on those thumbnails Boro
i like the composition you chose very much. here are some thoughts: maybe not all of them should look at the camera? maybe they shoudnt be soaced equally. there is only a slightly bigger distance between dude 3 and 4 the other are very similar.
Idk, imo the environment is indistinguishable from a regular ikea and someone who sees the painting without the explanation will assume it is one. As for the employees, beside the Dutch angle (which is a crutch) there's no indication that the situation is supposed to be scary and there's no suspense. Personally i would put an employee either lurking in the darkness or coming at us from some kind of a mist, so that we could barely see its features and would be left to imagine what it looks like. Alternatively, his body may be well lit, but the head obscured by a shadow.
Thanks for the ideas! I'll keep it in mind, but right now I don't think it's a problem. I wanted it to be like regular Ikea. As it says in the description, people don't realize anything's wrong until they try to find an exit. I think darkness or mist wouldn't feel like Ikea - they're all nice tools for horror, but just don't fit here. Maybe I'll make aerial perspective a bit stronger, but that's it. I like the idea of some kind of sterile, obvious horror, avoiding clichés. Kind of the way Silent Hill 4 was. I think it's exactly what is so much fun about this particular SCP, it feels very different from your average horror. That's what I think.
There was an indie game of this SCP. Like a survival game inside the IKEA, but it was like a pre-alpha build. I'm not sure if it's abandoned by now... I looked it up. There's another one in development right now, called "The Store is Closed".
I'll watch it as soon as I can, I swear! Update: I did watch it and I very much enjoyed it :D I know it doesn't really fit in this picture, but I would find it very interesting if there would be a mirror somewhere, making the place even more endless.
You've been referring to the recent change to your technique as some combination of brushwork, shape design and composition but in my opinion it's literally just brushwork. Your old brushwork was always somewhat messy, directionless, and uniformly soft with no real edges in it. You'd describe it as exactly what you were doing ('putting spots on the canvas') which led to having to try to refine that brushwork into something readable later, which isn't a technique most fine artists use. I do think the composition and shape design are also improved incrementally, but the actual thing that has (in my opinion) led to the major improvement in your technique is just brushwork.
Hey boro, that elongated brush you are using seems pretty cool. It's not very clear from the timelapse, but it seems you are also able to draw thin vertical lines using it. Does that require rotation detection to use, or does it just detect which direction you are tilting the pen? My tablet can only detect tilt, not rotation.
That's like almost a perfect compromise with people advising to add humans to the composition. But I still can't do it - I feel like this particular picture shouldn't include humans. It's just the way I want it to be, just this side of the story
