I love the GFX cameras so much. The image fidelity, the colours, the 4:3 aspect ratio. I bought a GFX 100 II not too long ago. It's amazing. The only thing is that I wish I could shoot smaller raws with it. I had the 50R previously and 50 MP was enough for me. 102 MP is a little too much.
@@r423fplip 24 MP is a ‘sweet spot’ for digital cameras in my opinion. However the GFX system lacks a good range of telephoto lenses at the moment, so having a bit more resolution allows you to crop more with the available lenses.
I'm absolutely in love with these photos. And you mention the medium format look giving an almost 3D quality with that wonderful dynamic range and I agree but I really think this is more a Fuji thing than anything else. I'm a Canon shooter and I wanted to get a range finder-esque type something for street photography, mirrorless as well, and ended up getting the X-T4 just today. I don't been playing around with it and I'm freaking out at the color of skin tones and the punchy quality of everything and how the dynamic range is giving this 3 dimensional quality to whatever I'm shooting. Man, where has Fuji been all my shooting life!
Thank you for this video Josh. I was thinking about Fuji. Took a Fuji camera to the Seattle Pride parade and had a fall. Cracked the screen and it is on the way to be repaired. I’m doing much better than that camera. I never considered a medium format of street photography. Two criteria I have for the gear I own is size and weight. Small and lightweight wins the day. Medium formate looses on both criteria. As you mentioned .josh. Price. One reason I don’t use Leica, other than at free loaner events at the camera store, is price. Affordable is good. Inexpensive is better. Again, for me, medium format looses me on this account. You like the 4:3 ratio? So do I. I use lumix M43 gear. Love my GX8/85/9 for street photography and the PL15mm lens. The P20/1.7 and 25/1.7 lenses are winners for me. LOVE the L monochrome D jpeg B&W SOOC. My favorite. I’m also a big Fuji fan. I have many Fuji bodies and lenses. Use Fuji for the typical reasons. Wanted the X100VI. So did a million others. I cancelled my order. I’m not waiting a year or paying a premium for that camera. Loved the photo of your son @07:49. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
how will you compare this with the 50? I got a lot of purple weird tint to my pictures (possibly aliasing?) with the 50. I was wondering if this will be eliminated by moving to the 100s
This is quite a lovely review, your quality of shots have helped me to make up my mind on investing on this camera for my studio. Please what camera and lens did you use in shooting your video, the clarity is unbelievably beautiful and captivating
I really like that medium/large format look and although it is quite big compare to an X-T3, I would love to try something similar one day just to enjoy the experience of it. And of course great photos as always!
Love your videos. There is a joy to them. As an aside, I'd be interested in a video on how you combine the Patreon, UA-cam, website and magazine to work well to support this work. Maybe that's a blog post in the Patreon?
@@frame-lines I was thinking about how the different platforms used offer complementary services but you've picked bits from several - so Discord for community, but Patreon might offer that too. It may just have evolved, I guess. Cheers.
Early in the video you talk about having owned a 50S and you show a bunch of photos. Were those photos shot with different lenses? Im always curious what lens is used.

@@cinqo7 I started on 6 mp and even that works great for online use and makes nice prints if you don't print big. So yeah 12 is still fine for most things.
45mm f2.8 on GFX has the same depth of field as 23mm f1.4 on APS-C. Don’t know why people think there is a difference. Of course dynamic range and color depth is another story, but that is just the extra wiggle room in post for extreme situations and nothing someone immediately sees and thinks „ahh that medium format look“
@@frame-lines In a way, yes. On the other hand the weak close focus ability of native GF glass let‘s say compared to a FF 50/1.2 gives no advantages in that respect. I am shooting various GFX cameras for the last three years and still not quite sure if it was the right decision but since I am pretty heavily invested in the system going back to full frame becomes kind of unlikely.
If ultimate, absolute image quality is your PRIMARY goal ... then nothing whatsoever can beat a medium format high megapixel camera. If you have other goals, then medium format is most likely NOT your best choice to make -
Not really a street camera… but its also kind of like once you use it in the studio then try it in the street, how could you not use it always in the street 😬 Your back will just hate you, thats all! haha
Take a drink every time I say ‘dynamic range’ 🙃
Great video Josh! Glad you enjoyed trying out the camera. We love your use of colours 🧡
Thank you for lending me the GFX - had a blast using it 💛🙌
This is like watching someone use a rocket launcher to clear an anthill. Nice shots, love the channel!
Ahaha incredible comment - also thank you
These photos are so amazing. I love the colors and details!
Thanks so much

Yes I agree - it also doesn’t really feel like ‘double’ the IQ - at least not with the lens I used
24 mp is enough. How big are you printing.

Some great spontaneous compositions. 👌super examples of “River Photography!”….

I'm also doing the same. I know others as well who uses Gfx100s for street photography. Why not? You get lots of pixel spaces for crop, if needed.
Josh, very Wes Anderson looking colours in your piece to camera. Nice!

This camera is amazingly massive and good at the same time 😮

It’s all about dynamic range and colour depth, not so much about DOF.
The depth of field from further distances is the biggest difference vs smaller sensor cameras I think - not sure how to best explain it though
