In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm returning to the music of Polish band Riverside. Their song River Down Below is a beautiful and melancholic offering. If you don't know this band, I encourage you to give them a shot! Enjoy!

This band is phenomenal. One of the best. Brutally underrated.
Underrated underrated underrated
This is one of the best progressive bands I’ve discovered, every one of their songs is beautifully crafted art, it’s not such thing as perfect arts, but Riverside comes close
Sadly they're no longer the same band.
Piotr Grudziński passed and THAT means the band isn't as great as they used to be😢😢
I love Riverside. In a world of hyper technical virtuasity, they have remembered the most important thing first. Melody.
What a beautiful song. Riverside doesn’t have a bad tune. RIP Pitor. He is certainly on the mind of the band here. They are touching on the idea that every person dies twice. When their physical body dies and the 2nd time when a person is forgotten. When thinking of a river we think of a constant flow non stopping. This song is essentially saying Pitor will not be forgotten as they move on with Riverside’s music. His memory will move on as a river through the music.
That's some beautiful words. Thank you
I honestly love this album.
Riverside is one of those few bands that deserve a lot more notoriety than they have. They've pulled out quite a few of the best albums of current progressive rock, and have been on the top of their game for their whole career, from the very start.
The guitar solo starting at 7:20 is so powerful it just gives me chills! The emotion portrayed is something else! I loved Piotr but they have still progressed and are great. Love their new ID.Entity album.
I often recommend Riverside to my friends who enjoy well written and performed music, telling them "this is truly the best band you've never heard of".
There can never be too much Riverside. :)
Duda is one of the great, underrated vocalists.
Saw them in the UK on this tour. Fab band, truly beautiful song. My wife saw them too and enjoyed them so much she cannot wait to see them play live again.
Just had a listen to i d entity their latest album pure brilliance. Please give it your critique Doug.😮
We are also missing reaction to " Left Out", another great masterpiece from them
absolutely agree!
@@user-pm3jy6nd1dgreat great song
Glad to see you doing Riverside. One of the best Progressive acts available nowadays.
Their first 2 albums "Out of Myself" and "Second Life Syndrome" are pure masterpieces. The song Second Life Syndrome in itself can take hours to analyze.
Doug reacted to 2nd life syndrome.
One of my favorite bands. Really happy to see them featured on this channel.
This song and Lament from this album are both fantastic.
first time for me and I'm truly impressed. Very pleasant to listen to.
Love everything about Riverside! They put on an incredible live show!
Fantastic band.
One of my favorite songs by them. Absolutely beautiful.
What a great band.
Awesome you are doing some Riverside songs. When you get the chance, see them live. You won't be disappointed.
What a fantastic live band Riverside are.
Riverside is a rare band that has incredible talented musicians and song writing abilities.
One of my favorite prog bands
Love Riverside, they definitely don’t receive the recognition that they deserve, but that makes them a progressive hidden gem.
Need to react to Lunatic Soul. Riverside lead singers side project.
Totally different monster. And only somewhat good, especially compared to RS.
I love this album, great songs, like "Acid Rain" for exemple.
As you probably know, Mariusz Duda also has a solo carrier, especially as Lunatic Soul. All Lunatic Soul albums are great. Listen to tracks like "Gutter", "Pygmallion's Ladder" or "The Passage". Absolutely awesome, and always the beautiful voice of Mariusz
Thousands Shards of Heaven is my favorite Lunatic Soul song. But the songs you mention are great too!
Thanx for this great reaction Doug. I discovered Riverside on Cruise To The Edge. A great bunch of guys and solid musicians that put on an amazing show.
Riverside again! Thanks! Greetings from Poland!
ID.Entity is fantastic. I hope you react to Friend or Foe someday, brilliant song. The whole album is great.
New to me Doug. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. What a great band❤❤🎉🎉
Man, you are absolutely the most articulate and knowledgeable person I've seen react to music. You know theory so well that you instantly recognize every chord, scale, mode, everything. I love it.
You should consider this album for a full listening lounge. It's a concept album, and as wonderful as this song is on its own it really needs to be heard in the context of the full story/musical journey.
This song was #1 in Poland's rock radiostations for weeks! Please review "The place where I belong"
And they cut the solo in half. I mean. Why?!?! The Place Where I Belong is great. Looking forward to that one eventually.
@@Arrow2theACL Acronym Love is also worth reviewing if we are talking about Piotr solos...
Hi Doug, I'm absolutely enjoying your analysis videos. For your next video on some Progrock music you could check out two bands I'm sure would be worth your time:
Sieges Even - The Art of Navigation by stars
Pure Reason Revolution - The Dark Third
Keep on the great work! :-)
Awesome to see Riverside featured, and one of my favourite tracks too. Thanks Doug 🤘💜🤘
"Towards the Blue Horizon" it's must to react to it
Great one! One of the few prog bands I truly enjoy. Musical and full of melody. Love it!
real emotion and tragic in music, especially in prog, you will find it in Scandinavia or Eastern Europe - and Riverside is one of the masters. I would compare them with Porcupine Tree either than with Opeth but yeah, the northern-eastern vibe is really outstanding.
Yes Close to the edge is one of my favorites!
Saw Riverside earlier this year and loved it. Thanks for covering this band that deserves more exposure. Doug, have you checked out The Pineapple Thief?
You HAVE to check out Mariusz Duda's solo project named "Lunatic Soul". I like it even more than Riverside to be honest.
A Thousand Shard of Heaven, Gutter, Blood on the Tightrope, The New Beginning, The Final Truth, The In-between Kingdom, Asoulum, and Wanderings are incredible.
A Thousand Shards of Heaven is an incredible composition IMO!
Riverside have been a favourite since O2 Panic Room. Love that Doug always finds the good stuff eventually
Yes!! Get back to them - such a journey awaits! ✨✨
You are the best music reaction channel
what a great band. Too bad the highly structured and programmed radio these days, especially in north america never exposes bans like this. i worked in the late 60's early 70s on a free form FM station where we could play what we liked before the suits moved in. Heck we even played some classical. Bands like this got lots of exposure back then and many of them became mainstream. Nowadays, the only place is the deep tracks channel on sirius xm. It really is too bad because so many great prog bans fly under the radar these days.
Here's a band that I've heard of, but never (until now) heard. I need to rectify that.
👍👍👍
The entire album seems to be a lament for Piotor Grudzinski. Check out "Lament" from this album as well. The whole album is a masterpiece.
My favorite track from Wasteland. Just deeply dredges emotion from within.
I’d recommend you taking a trip into Mariusz’s splinter outfit, Lunatic Soul.
I ve seen quite a lot of reaction to the new OST of the game "Baldurs Gate 3" from composers and musicians. I think might be a perfect fit for you Doug.
The album had been released right after Mariusz's father had passed away.
Hi Doug, just discovered your channel chasing Drive home by Steve Wilson. It's one of my favourite as well and I also love Depth of self delusion by Riverside. Any chance to hear what you say about it?
More Renaissance, please. Ashes Are Burning on Carnegie hall album
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the guitar solo sounds exactly like David Gilmour
Hey Doug! Could you analyze Estradasphere - Hunger Strike? An incredibly unique song that deserves far more love than it has. It’s definitely an interesting piece to say the least
