Riverside are soooo underrated.
Not in my book! I rate them very very highly!
By whom? The fans? Hardly. They may not be as "big" as, say, Metallica, but their fans are every bit as enthusiastic. And Riveside are far, far, FAR more listenable than Metallica.. And I like Metallica. Just more of a "prog" guy, I guess, if Riverside can be called "prog." Dunno what "prog" means these days..
I've been listening to music for 60 years. Escalator Shrine is one of the best things I've ever heard. Glad you dug it as much as I do. Great analysis on your part as well.
I'm just getting to go through your channel. You have great taste in music my friend. This song is absolutely amazing. Keep showing off these amazing modern prog bands.
I've seen Riverside twice at the Prog Power USA festival, and was absolutely shocked when Piotr died days after seeing them the second time. I know they're not a super popular band, but I haven't been effected by any other musician's death the same way I was with his.
Just found the channel. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Nice to see someone appreciate it anew. Cheers!
Best outro in the world
I love Riverside. Can't go wrong with them.
Real music, this. 1000 times better than 99% of all the massproduced crap out there.. Did that sound elitist? Good!
Listen to Deprived, it's an hypnotizing song!!
Thanks Jim, and other subscribers, I really enjoyed this too! Amazing band indeed! Now from Poland I love not only Indukti and Vader, but also Riverside :-D
Only one of the top 5 bands in the world at present. Glad you found them. When our domestic music industry supports long form music, Riverside will get constant airplay. Until then...we're stuck with radio gaga. Except for me. No FM radio for 20 years now.
I'm happy that you're happy, I'm also happy that I listened to this song again. It is pure bliss
Jim looks like he’s getting Escalator Shrine on both top and bottom of the escalator, or, if you will, “listening” with both heads. Totally get it - I’ve been listening to prog probably longer than Jim’s been on the planet, and this piece ranks in my all time five... three. Cheers Jim!
Such an amazing rock band!
They lost their lead guitarist a few years ago and I’m hoping they find that spark again. They are all so talented.
Mariuz Duda is a genius. Please react to Saturate Me from Love, Fear and The Time Machine.
love that song
BluebonnetWhovian
Towards to blue horizon is another good one too
my favorite riverside song :) the bass line always blows me away
It's wicked isn't it?!
If you like the buss line you should listen to The Gutter. It's a buss feast
Hi Jim, I`m quite happy now. First of all because you did another Riverside song, second your fantastic reaction and third your brilliant interpretation of my name -:)
Øystein Mathisen yeah, well, sorry about that! I'm rubbish at pronouncing names! Truly sorry, but glad you can laugh about it!
Saw these guy’s the other night in Cambridge ma 4/25 blown away!!!!
I saw them a couple of years ago, before the pandemic. They’re amazing.
Such a great album too.
I never doubted for a minute what your reaction would be to this..... great reaction.
I Know I have thrown a laundry list at you, but my suggestion would be to play something old, and something new ( and they are due to release a new one this fall, as they are almost finished recording)
" The Curtain Falls" from the first album Out Of Myself
"Catipillar and the Barbed Wire" and "Lost" from the latest Love Fear and the Time Machine.
What l love about Riverside is the diversity in their catalogue...they have songs that are heavier, more metal, and some softer(sax solo even), and stuff similar to Lunatic Soul, the whole album Eye Of The Soundscape is electonica mostly. Can't wait for the next one. Keep up the good and entertaining work!
TwinRavens just brilliant. Obviously massively influenced by the Floyd but that's no bad thing in my world! Thanks Twin, as ever, your recommendation is absolute spot on! Loved it!
Jim Newstead one I forgot for that list..."Dna Ts. Rednum or F. raf"( Far from understand backwards).... I really can't recommend their discography more....right up there with Steven Wilson. Not many bands can string together Floyd, Tool, DP, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream....😁
Such a fantastic song and band, just discovered your channel. Very good taste in music! Lovin it so far!
Hey Jim, i really like your reactions to Progressive Rock bands, like Riverside, Porcupine Tree etc.. Keep it up my man! ;)
Thanks Mr Punk! Glad you're enjoying the journey!
i enjoy every minute of it, thanks Jim! I know you get bombarded with recommendations, but i would like to suggest two more songs from the same album: " Deprived " and " Same River ", its one of my favorite albums in general. And if you like Porcupine Tree, then i would like to suggest " Arriving somewhere but not here (Live) " and " Sleep Together (Live in Tilburg) ", thanks for all your effort! Have a nice day!
Riverside dripping Floyd in the most delicious way.
Listen to Airbag- Homesick. That so so Pink Floyd its incredible! You will not regret it.
The best polish band.
Don't ever say this
Yes
Now go to their second album and listen to the title track, Second Life Syndrome, which is even better.
Aaaaand still zero dislikes. How nice. Jim i don't think u can ever be hated. Sorry :D
Great review.
You should definitely check some of their heavier material like Driven to Destruction or Hybrid Times!
Ok. Prog. Here you go: Nektar-A Tab in the Ocean, Remember the Future, Early Morning Clown; Yes-And You and I.
I need to listen to this one more, and this album too. (Shrine Of the Next Generation Slaves = SoNGS) So many good ones to pick from, but I’d suggest Panic Room, Volte Face, and Driven to Destruction.
Also, did you notice that the perspective of the window behind you lines up with the album art? :)
Cheers! Soen - Savia 😁 or Soen - God's Acre.
Juan Frusciante second that!
third!
seen them live a month ago,,,the venue was crap and small, although, riverside managed to sound good has hell and they were absolutely amazing live band to watch
Muito bom
And they are playing 2 gigs in the UK on the 9th and 10th November at Acedemy 2, Manchester and The Electric Ballroom, London respectively. I would suggest that you get along to one of them if possible. This is to promote their new album Waste7and :). I will definitely be at the Manchester gig.
They are great. They have all the elements except compelling melodies, but the musicianship is incredible.
You don’t think their melodies are compelling?
@@JimNewstead Not immediately, but with all prog you need to listen to it a few times to fully appreciate.
You have to try VALIS ABLAZE: Faster Than Light. I'm sure you'll like it. Great UK band
Hey Jim, could you please react to a UK prog rock/metal band called Oceansize with the song Trail of Fire? I'm sure you will like it! Greetings!
You need to listen to Riverside - Curtain Falls 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Jim , I see you have found your niche. ;-)
Big Big Train?
Little Little Tram? Is that a band? A song? A random comment? Lovely to hear from you!
Hi. Yes, Big Big Train is a band. I would suggest looking at Underfall Yard or Judas Unrepentant. Really much of what they do is very good, and very thought out. So I encourage you to have a listen.
I enjoy your reactions. Cheers from Pittsburgh PA USA.
just say what you subscribers love. perfect strategy for politician but not for analyzer, ah sorry you're just reviewer
Hello there! 👋. Sorry I’m two years late to your comment…. Must have missed this. I’m not an analyst, you’re quite right. I listen to music, and share with my audience. That’s all I’ve ever done! Well spotted 👏👏👏
