    Babies don’t need that much stuff! Many moms are tricked in by ads and culture of buying lots of kind of “necessary” things. I bought for my little one just main and most essential things (like crib, mattress, sling to carry baby evertwhere, breastfeeding bra+ pads, swaddles, hooded towel, baby bathtub, burp clothes, some baby caring stuff and minimum clothes to wear.

    • @christinayarmolyuk9808
      @christinayarmolyuk9808 3 роки тому +20

      I hate this attitude. Parents can have as much stuff as they feel they're going to use and makes their parenthood more convenient or easy for them. What is a lot of stuff for you may not be for the next family. There's always a person who's going to be more extreme than you are and claim that you don't need nursing pads or baby towels or more than five outfits. It's all relative. I don't think anybody's being hoodwinked by ads. There's a market for everyone and these newborn essential lists are different for everyone. I like watching them because sometimes I'm exposed to something that I had never seen before and think to myself, wow that would have been really cool to try with my first son who had issues with XY and Z. I always roll my eyes when I read comments about how "parents don't need this!" I think a parent can decide for themselves what they enjoy having in the infant stage.

      “I didnt but all this stuff for my child so im gonna try to justify why i didnt by telling everyone that they dont need to either”. Its not one shoe fits all. Parents are entitled to buy anything they want for their child. You not buying those things doesnt make you a better parent than anyone else. Sure, you might not need everything is this video but there is nothing wrong with buying on excess if you want to and can afford to do so. Keep your negativity to yourself

      Yeah first time parent you should just let them be because you know this is their first baby and it’s fun to do all the shopping and the excitement it brings to both parents. I’m sure after the first they’ll get a better understanding of what things worked and what didn’t work, like I’m going to be a second time mom now so now I know for sure what I’m going to buy and what I’m not. But just let first time parents be don’t be so judgmental telling them they don’t need this and oh they don’t need that much clothes or blah blah just let them have their moment Just let them be they’ll know when they decide for another baby.

    When burping a baby you always want to have a firmer hold on their head/jaw/neck area with the front hand you can use the same two fingers just hold along the bottom of the jaw gently but with enough pressure to keep their heads from rolling or leaning too far back it helps a lot and prevents neck injuries... Edit... Use your pointer finger, middle finger, and thumb sorry I didnt specify that..

    The baby swing is our most prized possession. I swear this child would never nap without it. Also the swaddle sacks and blankets. We use both each time he naps and sleeps at night because Houdini gets his hands free and wakes himself up. He literally can’t sleep more than a half hour without being swaddled because he wakes himself up. He also gets super fussy without being swaddled and instantly calms down and goes to sleep once we wrap him.

IF and infant has choked or asphyxiated from reflux, AND you get a prescription hospital grade oxygen monitor for home AND your doctor recommends an inclined sleep space, then and only then should you incline the sleep space (because you have a hospital grade oxygen monitor to let you know when baby needs help). Our little boy is 4.5months now. Some tips...
    To help with reflux get the MAM bottles with the hotels in the bottom (don’t use completely sealed bottomed bottle) - they help let the air out when he sucks and supposedly reduces reflux. Ours was bad (still can be) but we use the MAM bottles and Infacol. You could also try GripeWater.
    Tap the pacifier. It encourages them to suck. (Our problem now is trying to get him to get himself back off to sleep when he wakes in the night so we don’t have to go in and put the dummy back in)
    DIY DockaTot/Sleepyhead trick: take an empty pillow case, then take a large towel and roll it into a sausage. Put the sausage towel into the pillow case like a horseshoe... works a treat!
    Also, if he’s in a Moses basket or similar and there’s quite a bit of space around, then roll up a couple of small towels and put either side of him... again, worked a treat!
    Also also, raise it at the head end slightly (eg fold a towel a couple of times and place under the head end of the carry cot/Moses basket). Was recommended by the hospital and has always helped.
    Good luck, keep at it! We had a difficult baby (reflux, exaggerated startle reflex, no more than 20min naps through the day and no more than an hour or two overnight) but we’re working through it and each step in the right direction is a win!

    • @alisoncoles1565
      @alisoncoles1565 4 роки тому

      Please don't try the rolled up towel trick... if the baby turns his head to the side he can suffocate! By all means raise the head end of the Moses basket by placing a rolled up towel underneath the head of the mattress, (please note, this only works if he's in a Moses basket, not a big cot as raising the head end will have no effect on the baby who is right down the other end of the cot!) Please know that my comments are to help you mum's keep your little ones safe and not to preach at you... stay safe always x

    • @tbd1001
      @tbd1001 4 роки тому

      Alison Coles ... Towel underneath Moses basket to raise the head end, agreed that’s fine. Rolled up sausage towel inside a pillow case as a makeshift sleepyhead is absolutely fine IN A COT not in a Moses basket or anything of course (used by many we know including us for several months - until he was too big for it or started to even think about actually rolling over - so 4-5months old, but no older than 5months we found). But agree with trying to keep everyone safe... this worked for us and we were sensible with it.

      @@tbd1001 Are you a childcare professional? What you are suggesting is absolutely NOT ok, even in a cot. If the baby turns it's head to the side the risk of suffocation is still there... I am a childcare specialist with a consultancy business that offers help to parents on all aspects of child rearing and safety. The sleepyhead and all those things are gimmicks that are totally unsafe for sleeping your baby on... please don't put your child at unnecessary risk... better to have a baby that cries until it learns to self settle than a dead baby for the sake of a peaceful night! That may sound harsh, but that's the truth of it! Please don't use ANYTHING in the cot other than the swaddle or sleeping bag and a dummy, it's not worth the risk. Stay safe x

    Chiming into the conversation about the Dock-A-Tot. Yes, DAT has warnings saying it should NOT be used for night sleeping. It is safe to use under supervision for placing and lounging. If you are monitoring the baby during the day, I believe they can nap in it. The suffocation risk is two-fold; If the baby rolls their face into the side, they cannot breath. Also, It is soft-sided, so any form of bed-sharing with it is very dangerous since you may not notice if you roll onto it in your sleep. Follow general guidelines and safety regulations on the products and provided by your doctor to help prevent issues.

      healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/hc-sc/2017/64318a-eng.php
      In a nutshell after numerous attempts since the 90’s to get parents to ensure that babies only sleep in cribs or bassinets the only way they could protect children from their idiot parents was to change their regulations. Technically there isn’t a category the baby nests/pods fall under so they can’t be imported into the country. It’s kinda like not being able to import/manufacture blow dryers because people kept using them while in the bath tub. It sux for all the parents out there who use them correctly because they are awesome.

    My top suggestions are the velcro swaddles, owlet, halo swivel sleeper bassinet, and the konny wrap! We tried the muslin swaddles and they never worked. My son would always wriggle out of them. Velcro works a lot better! The owlet is oh my god, such a lifesaver! So worth the expensive price. The Halo bassinet is fantastic because my kiddo always finds his way against the wall of whatever thing he's sleeping in and it has the mesh all the way around so I never have to worry. The konny wrap is awesome because it's super lightweight, no buckles, no extra fabric to tie off to the side. You put it on like a t-shirt and it works wonders!

    Free tip for parents, don't actually hold the pacifier (edited cause auto correct sucks) in your kids mouth, instead try and pull it out (lightly flick it down towards their chin) to encourage their muscles to work harder to hold it in their mouths (it kinda simulates them dropping it). If you're breast feeding it will help them to latch easier/better too.

    That's not how you hold a 7 week baby (1:57), you need to support his head. I see others have mentioned it. Also, I know swadling is still very popular and considered normal in large parts of the world, but know that it does increase the risk of sudden infant death (SIDS) as it restricts the movment of the childs arms and legs, and is generally not recomended. I don't mean to be rude, but I think information like this is important to ppl watching.

    • @catsforever3999
      @catsforever3999 4 роки тому +2

      Yes I was thinking the same thing. Also the baby should be somewhat leaning forward (head and neck support from front) not backwards if you want to burp them successfully.

    • @annarocha3254
      @annarocha3254 4 роки тому

      doctors in the United States recommend them. I think the risk if SIDS from swaddling is still quite disputed in the medical community.

    I watched my 3 month old grandson for a week and boy, he sounds just like Jackson! He was always colicky, spit up all the time and plain just not happy. so they took him to a doctor and said he is lactose intolerant (like me). Thanks for the recommendation on the portable sound machine. Jackson is so beautiful while looking into his father's face as he's sitting up on his lap while being burped. Then he looks at you with curiosity as you hold the camera, since he cannot see himself in it yet. So sweet. Burp cloths are needed in the dozens. It doesn't help you right now, but he may take more to the pacifiers when he starts teething for naps and nighttime, if he uses teething toys at other wakeful times. Ah blankets: an original form of swaddling. Love how his left arm still managed to wiggle out of it. Maybe it wasn't high enough. He didn't like the dance party, but Riley did.

    Hi there Doc a Tots are not safe for sleep, the term "breathable" is just a marketing term even the tag behind says to not allow them to sleep in one inside a crib but its not safe on an adult bed either. A baby placed alone, on their back in bare bassient ot crib is best for safe sleep and reduce the risk of suffocation and SIDS. Your baby is lovely by the way 💕

    • @KH-ly6mt
      @KH-ly6mt 4 роки тому

      The cause is SIDS is not proven and is in constant research. The baby can obviously breathe and if the DocATot was that dangerous it would be recalled. So many things can happen to cause harm to a baby but if this momma feels safe with her little one using this then I’m sure he’s okay. Every baby and momma are different so let’s not give opinions where they weren’t wanted. ☺️

    • @fernmarin2766
      @fernmarin2766 4 роки тому

      @@KH-ly6mt this is not my opinion this is a fact backed up by the American Academy of Pediatrics, any type of cosleeper is not safe including the Doc a Tot even if baby is being supervised, this product is only safe if used as a lounger while baby is awake. Spreading awareness about unsafe products can save a baby's life (yes unfortunately babies die each year to bedsharing and unsafe products).

    ♫ 🎁Thanks! We also often overlook ✨personalized songs as gifts for babies, but they truly make for some of the most wonderful gifts that can be treasured for a lifetime. No only do they bring joy to the child as they grow up and learn the words to their very own song, but they also bring joy to the parents who can look back on this special gift with fond memories. So next time you're considering a gift for a newborn, and if you don't find the perfect gift in this great list given by Brittany Balyn, consider a personalized song as a gift that both the child and the parents will treasure forever.💖

    My baby spits up a lot too. I don’t know if he has acid reflux. In every bottle feeding we do gas drops. And probably twice or 3 times a day we add grip water with gas drops. We did nutrimigen didn’t work still spit up. We are now doing AR enfamil he is doing good. We still do grip water and gas drops. If we didn’t have that he would be fussy. His spit ups are minimal. He use to spit up like crazy. Puddle cottage cheese sometimes. Now it’s hardly. He is almost 4 months

    “There’s no question that the DockATot isn’t a safe sleep device,” says Denis Leduc, a community based paediatrician and clinical director of the newborn nursery at Montreal’s Royal Victoria Hospital. “On the contrary, a baby can easily obstruct its airway by turning towards one of those elevated sides. This is not anything that I would be comfortable recommending to parents.”

      pinksocks115 I have a dockatot deluxe. It’s pretty big so it has enough room that if my newborn turns her head she still has at least 5 inches of space between her face and the sides of the dockatot. So she can’t suffocate. Plus I received my dockatot from a family friend who used it for all 3 of her perfectly healthy children 🙂

    My opinion about the owlet is that it’s a little unnecessary. If you have a baby that is sick or premature, things like that I understand it. But if you have anxiety about your healthy baby at night I personally think it just adds to the anxiety. Billions of baby’s have lived without things like the owlet, and for how expensive it is, you do not need it for a healthy baby. But that’s just my opinion and if you disagree, just keep scrolling you don’t need to give me an angry reply. I’m entitled to my opinion, you’re entitled to yours.

    My baby sleeps in a dock a tot. I leveled it to be 45 degree angle, and I put his play mat pillow under is feet. We swaddle him still. But give him room for his arms. We sleep on the couch sectionals. I think we are going to transition to the crib because of rolling over at 5-6 months. We are upgrading to sleep sacks this week. And I’m thinking of a newton mattress because he likes sleeping on his side. I soothe him with a binky before bedtime. He eats 9-10pm and wakes up 4-5 am and 5e binky usually just falls out of his mouth
