If there is anything my 2016 gen 3 taught me, it is to wait for Toyota to dial it in. Traded the 16 in for a 21 in 21. I love how Toyota quickly responds to and resolves issues but I learned to have let the early adopters provide the data. Patience is key for enthusiasts on a budget. 😊
I bought a 2023 TRD Pro a week ago because I don't want anything to do with a 4 cylinder engine. And a new model year is going to be full of bugs with all the changes. For the sake of the truck they should have put a small V8 in it with 300hp. But I understand they are bending over backwards to comply with the government mpg and emission requirements. Sucks for the consumer to not have an option. With a V8, a trans that shifts correctly, and some useable bed tie down points, the Tacoma would be the perfect truck.
@@ScreamsPenguin The Tacoma fits in my garage. The Tundra no longer has a V8 option. Even a F150 only has one V8--and it is not the highest HP option. It's getting hard to find full size trucks with a V8. I can't buy what doesn't exist. I decided to replace my '00 Durango with a mid size truck and was disappointed that nothing in the category still had a V8. When I bought the Durango, most everything in that class had a V8 in it with a V6 being the cheap option if price was a concern. I hate this trend of more complicated smaller engines.
Thank's for a great video Chloe! I'm glad Toyota has listened to it's customers and made trucks that have more of what enthusiast what in their trucks and the fact that they offer some aftermarket support direct from Toyota. I like the x runner concept and haven't understood why Toyota stopped the mini truck segment from their lineup! pretty much all manufactures stopped making street/mini trucks when the scene was still growing with the likes of fast and furious movies. I think the TRD sport should have been this x runner all along, even making a track AWD setup would be awesome.
@@billw8476I agree that Toyota shouldn’t have dropped the V6. I don’t think the 4cyl turbo is gonna have the torque needed for climbing heavy terrain and the towing capacity is gonna suffer too. I’m a lube tech at a Toyota dealer. I’m glad I bought my 2022 Tacoma when I started here. I wouldn’t buy a 2024 since they discontinued the 6 cylinder engine in the production models. I wish they still had leaf springs on more than just the base model. I don’t like hybrids either. The high voltage battery is a ticking time bomb in that when it fails, it costs so much to replace it that insurance usually totals the vehicle. If I DID buy a 4th gen, I’d Coyote swap it as soon as the warranty expired.
This year I purchased my first brand new truck! A 2023 Lunar Rock double cab, 6 speed manual of course. The Taco loves off-roading with super low gear ratio with the manual and it’s probably the most reliable truck you can buy right now. But I’ve got my Toyota dealer trying to get me a Trail Hunter 😅 The way I see it, if I can have Toyota factory warranty all the upgrades I would do anyways and I don’t have to spend hours building it, that’s just more time I’m not worrying about break downs on my dime, and more time using my truck for work in the patch or getting out into that sweet Alberta / BC backcountry ⛰️ But then many will say “ But sir that thing will break down immediately just like a Ford” Ya cool story man I just don’t think Toyota would put this turbo I4 in a Land Cruiser if it meant tarnishing, the reputation that it’s had for having legendary reliability, longevity and off-road cred…
That 4 cylinder turbo is not going to be as reliable as the v6. When I got the news that the 2024 had a 4 cylinder turbo, I went and bought a 2023 off road
@slowfiveoh4986 Based on physics. When you introduce a turbo, you are increasing the internal forces on the engine, and you are increasing the heat on the engine. The turbo runs incredibly hot, and the oil running through it can burn if you don't let it cool before before shutting off the engine. You are also introducing more fail points.
I wish the turbo V6 was a option for all of the 2024 Tacomas. I’m kinda concerned about the turbo 4 cylinder being durable enough just my opinion I’m not saying it won’t be durable but that little engine will be working harder having 2 less cylinders and being turbocharged and also making more power than the outgoing V6😬
If Ford and Chrysler(Fiat) have been doing it for a while successfully, Toyota will kill it. My dad has a JL Wrangler Rubicon 2.0T and the power comes on fast at the low RPM's and the vehicle moves effortlessly. Motors designed to handle turbos, especially at the low factory boost settings will be reliable. As an owner of the old "TRD" supercharged setup on a 4.0 V6 Tacoma, I have faith in these new engines lasting a while (200-300k easy as Ford and Chrysler have already done). The 465lb/ft of torque is a must especially when adding weight to the truck for these "overland" builds. I have around 380lb/ft torque (crank estimate for comparison) and it is just enough to easily keep up with traffic once you add over 500lbs of mods to the truck.
Yes, you are making a bold statement but to diverse, Toyota is surely stretching their hands out with all these different types of Tacomas. Some of the amenities are a welcome upgrade especially within the frame department, but the old aspirated engine has me cause it’s tried & true. I really wanted an Access Cab, manual trans, 4x4 so I bought a 2022 Sport. I think the new Tacoma will be very nice. However, my configuration no longer exists.
Toyota still needs to improve the the head space and leg space in the back. Plus, the seats need to be better for angling comfort. Also, Toyota needs to rustproof their structual body frame that is a problem for the past Tacomas.
I tow a bit and often so I'd be finding a 2023 with the V6 before putting my chips on the Turbo4 they're pushing. I just don't think turbos will be reliable for a hard working engine long term.

I didn’t have a good experience with my 2019. In and out of the shop for unscheduled maintenance all the time. Once the dealership added and noted leaking timing cover and seeping power steering rack to all the other previous issues, that’s when I immediately cut ties. At 39,000 miles, I took advantage of the high resale and cashed out. It’s someone else’s problem now. I won’t own another 3G. I may consider the 4G, but first impressions owning the Toyota brand I was not impressed, so I am apprehensive. The only vehicle I sold in that manner with that low miles.

It'll take 2 yr to work the bugs out. Rebuild the 22re get rid of the ridiculous emissions.
i will wait for the 2025 or 2026, and see if toyota brings back the v6 with this 8 speed. "the oxen are slow, but the earth is patient"
Wait until 2026 for them to dial it In, I have a 23 pro to hold me over.
I'm curios, will the camera system record while driving. So if I get into a wreck can I download the recorded video?
Outstanding
Lowered Expectations. looks amazing ..Chloe go on and pull he trigger on the 24 model Tacoma , I will be looking forward it on your channel.. Toyota listens to owners and content creators.
I’ll wait a few years before I give up my 3rd Gen…
4 cylinder..Ill keep my 2021
Hi Chloe! Thanks, old buddy, buddy for show casing that x runner, that is kick ass bad ass, that is hot, and I dig it, hope they put it in production.
Lmao the reveal just made buy the 2023 since that will be the last gen for v6 will probably hold its value.
No V6 you can keep it turbos are nothing but problems this will bring up used truck prices
ما شاء الله تبارك الله
Did you buy one of these trucks yet Chloe? lmk.
Come on Chloe, you're an engineer lol. You know it's a terrible idea to purchase the first year of a new generation. Maybe 2025 will be the model year to wait for. 😉
Sticking with the 3rd Gen Tacoma until a few years down the road like with the new tundra, just gotta wait a several years from experience with new models in general coming out imo !!
or just get a landcruiser which is made in Japan.....which is a huge plus over Mexico
Seems like they added a bunch of useless features ultimately resulting in a massive price increase.
if it had a v8 be interesting.
Have you researched other trucks as well🤔?
My main issue that what used to be small trucks are now bigger than big trucks, more like the actual thought of what trucks used to be for are now a after thought. I would love to see gen1 size trucks again
There's rumors about a mini truck--I think it would be cool should they come to fruition!
Truck is nice but not digging the tailgate.
I'd like to avoid turbo
Piss on Toyota for only offering the 2024 Tacoma with "ONLY" a 2.4L engine!
lol let guinea pigs get the new Tacoma 😂
I didn’t have a good experience with my 2019. In and out of the shop for unscheduled maintenance all the time. Once the dealership added and noted leaking timing cover and seeping power steering rack to all the other previous issues, that’s when I immediately cut ties. At 39,000 miles, I took advantage of the high resale and cashed out. It’s someone else’s problem now. I won’t own another 3G. I may consider the 4G, but first impressions owning the Toyota brand I was not impressed, so I am apprehensive. The only vehicle I sold in that manner with that low miles.
That’s too bad, you definitely got a lemon.
Actually, wait for the 2026 or later. Never buy the 1st year of a new model.
They are not the best That 4 cylinder Turbo engine they wear out quicker.
that 4 cylinder engine is going to have difficulty towing because the power comes at higher rpms so your going to have to rev it just for the power. they downgraded the engine honestly
Turbos deliver torque at lower rpms
Too big and expensive for me but I'd love to see a compact version of this design.
Never by a new model year. Wait 2 or 3 years so they can get all they bugs worked out.
‘End users’ spoken like a true engineer or IT person 😂
👍👊
They giving you a mad discount for pushing this arnt they lol
No way
