      The only problem is that it took too much time in the beginning. He needed to show that his trick was good enough by showing the boxes, doing the card trick and doing the book trick. It took Penn and teller out of the magic routine and put them into calculating mode. Trying to keep up with different number of tricks employed in such a short amount of time. The trick was complex no doubt. Later, the comedy and magical effect were on point too. It's just that the starting feels like a typical magic trick that Penn and teller were not fooled.
      I mean saw one trick which was very simple that even I knew how it was done but Penn and teller were fooled because they were too into the feeling.

    I genuinely believe this is one of the greatest magic tricks of all time, and I’m not exaggerating. It’s so creative and so unique that it actually inspires awe. In contrast-no matter how technically impressive they are-card tricks, coin tricks, escape tricks, and vanish tricks all just blend into each other eventually. A magician locating your card or a coin disappearing is nifty, but it’s not actually meaningful. But this trick plays with ideas of teleportation, mysterious spaces, effects at a distance, and maybe even quantum uncertainty. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

      Right? Even if it didn't fool them, I kinda wish P&T gave the trick more acknowledgment for it's brilliant design and sequence. P&T care a lot about the "theory" behind magic performance and how tricks are crafted to be meaningful, and this trick was perfection imo, especially compared to the hundreds of card tricks they get on their show where there aren't any real "stakes" or "meaning" behind the magic. This is a trick that was artistically beautiful and meaningful without being too self-serious. No emotional music or hand gestures or shasowy lighting, just a truly beautiful trick done in the least pretentious way possible. That's a rare but wonderful combination.

    You looked totally relaxed and like you were just having fun. I imagine if that’s accurate, it’s gotta take an insane amount of skills and confidence in your skills to feel that way on stage in front of Penn & Teller.
    Big ups for the whole performance!
    You, the audience member and Alyson were really funny together. lol the audience guy cracked me up. The way he checked out the box and showed it to the camera like “it’s empty, you got that?” Then later he was like “uh, cards, deck of cards!! Uh 5 of… clubs, clubs!!” Dude was having his mind blown by the trick, at that point he could barely remember his card lol. And Alyson “yours. I’ve got a few ideas on some of the more basic components, but how it all came together can only be described as Magical. So much so that Penn & Teller figured it out, but even they were left wondering. Despite not being a fooler, this is the best I’ve seen taking us back to the essence of the trade. Leaving you feeling like a happy child left in awe without a bunch of flashy tricks. There’s something truly wonderful and nostalgic about this routine.

    The "dirty work", as Penn put it, really was done so well and so early that you can watch this video 1000x and probably never see him do it. This one took me longer to figure out than most. Bravo!

    This is pure magic. It is so fascinating and even if i would love to know how it is done, on the other hand i don't want, just to feel the magic 100%. Perfect routine. Must be Top 3 of all P&T-Acts ever.

    This was PHENOMENAL! If you weren’t performing for P&T, you’d fool 99.9% of pro magicians - you fooled me! Bc when I have to rewatch at 0.25 speed, then again, I’m really stumped! Beautifully designed (and yes, VERY sneaky) routine 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

    • @reference2592
      @reference2592 11 місяців тому

      Meh. That's one of the unsatisfying parts of the show. Some incredibly awesome, complex tricks like this don't "fool them" because they know how it must be done through process of elimination even if they don't REALLY know all the steps, but then some incredibly lame tricks which impress no one technically fool them just because it's a novel set up that no one likes or cares about and can't actually be used in real magic shows. But I agree--and I don't say this lightly either, that this is the best constructed and performed magic trick I have ever seen. Feels genuinely magical.

    That might be the first trick I've ever seen where I don't want to know how it's done. This was so cleanly performed, I want to believe it was actual magic that defies the laws of our universe. In over 30 years of watching magicians starting in the mid 80s with P&T and David Copperfield flying around like an idiot, this is no doubt my favorite routine. Perfection.

      There's a couple acts that have been on the show like that for me. Kostya Kimlat's first one is kind of that. I know precisely how he did it (he's explained it in detail on his UA-cam channel before) and knowing what he did makes it even more impressive. This one is the same way. It's so complex and intricate.

      They couldn’t find a way to discuss the trick in code. It was out of respect to the performer that they chose to go directly to the judges. Doesn’t mean they were fooled or not, it just means they wanted to keep his secret.

      The issue with tricks that are this “magical” is they often have very few feasible techniques for achieving the illusion, thus, by process of elimination and watching him closely, penn, teller, and even some audience members may be able to deduce the method used in the performance. I believe this is why Penn & Teller were not sure if they had been fooled, because they probably had it narrowed down to 2-3 methods, all employing sleight of hand that is well known and recognizable to another professional magician.
      They (or he) could probably have produced the same result with at least a slightly different technique, and all three of them knew it, thus it was far more obvious to professional eyes what was taking place than to us (the general public audience)

    This man is amazing. This was a great performance. And his expression at 7:32 where you can tell a secret conversation has happened between the magicians is so curiosity inducing that I'm dying to know what has been communicated there.

    It's just nice to see someone go on here and do something other than a bloody card trick lol Don't get me wrong, some card tricks can be really clever but there's only so many of them you can watch before they become stale. Surely most magicians learn more than what they can do with a coin or a deck of cards? Bravo to Tom for doing something different :)
