yeah.. umm .. no ..... they know how all of these tricks are done.. the problem with video is that you can rewind it over n over.. if you are a magician like myself you can catch the sleight of hand that he is doing.
You don't know the whole truth. In a few cases, magicians complain that Penn and Teller didn't detect the trick and didn't get the trophy (it's on YT). They were advised not to complain and to be happy to perform in the show (statement of one Italian magician). Old friends are given trophies out of friendship. Penn and Teller had to publicly come forward and explain their actions because the rules were blatantly broken, which are broken primarily by the producers to get ratings. Also, the producers' cuts are unpunished, creating the unresolvable nature of the trick, thus TV viewers cannot judge the magician's actual performance. If the magician has influence by some association, Penn and Teller prefer to correct their statement so that their show does not become a tabloid target.
Not just respect to P&T for recognizing they were fooled, but also major props to to you for taking the first (alleged) loss as a true gentleman even though you weren't 100% sure they knew your method. Also, amazing trick and presentation. World class stuff, nicely done!

The absolute brilliance of this show is the fact that Penn and Teller can just sit comfortably waiting and remembering all of the magic tricks from around the world that they see. They are building the ultimate war chest of the best tricks.
Everything about the presentation of this trick appealed to me in such a strong way. I don't know how to describe it, but I felt utterly optimistic afterwards. 10/10
Unbelievable! Well done Ben! Rooting for you good sir! So happy to see you getting noticed. I can’t imagine how much work goes into making everything so seamless.

The best of the best admiting they were wrong. I know some politicians who would learn a lesson from this video. Admiting you were wrong dont bring down your value. It shows the world your integrity which is truly in need right now.
Ben, you have good charisma! It's the right mix of confidence and humor, and healthy doses of both. I like your style and congratulations on fooling them!
My guess is that the magic began at 3:51 when he puts the pointer down on the table. He puts the ring down with it. The camera cuts to a far away shot so you can't follow the ring after it passes through the pointer. And then you never see it again until the very end. Ask yourself this question: Why did he need such a long table cover that goes down to the floor? My guess is that there is an assistant under that table. When he placed the pointer down, the ring was with it. Then he had to 'buy' a lot of time for his assistant to grab the ring and put it into the jar and then place it in the basket from under the table. The assistant places the ring in the jar. That is why Ben wastes so much time before the big reveal. Just my guess.
I thought so, too, BUT: presumably that’s what Penn & Teller initially thought happened. So, I’m not sure that’s what happened. It’s possible that the table cloth was put there to fool Penn & Teller into thinking that’s how it was done. Put differently, we have two mysteries not one: how he did it, and what P&T thought he did.
Its in this instance that video playback helps greatly, and there was no extra person. Its all slight of hand. At 3:52 he uses slight of hand to put the ring under his watch wrist strap. Pausing at 4:06 you can see the ring some what under the strap. Then at 4:25 when he claps his hands together he uses his right pinky to grab the ring from the strap then when he goes to pick up the yarn and the needle you can see him push the ring first into the box, which is still all hidden by the extra balls of yarn. From then each time he goes to grab a yarn its to do an addition stage of pushing the ring case into the ball, which is wrapped in such a way that the side is never covered so you can insert the box when needed, then another move to get it into the jar and a quick final move to put the lid on and screw it lightly shut. Its still all impressive slight of hand but its one of those tricks that gets absolutely destroyed by video playback.

I loved this! I was surprised that P&T "figured it out" but was very happy to see that they corrected their mistake and gave you the trophy that you definitely earned. Great routine and I hope to see a lot more.
Interesting trick. At the beginning there are some topology tricks 2:24 ring is topologically outside, simple math trick. 2:57 it is on. 3:00 he just lifts it and its not at the bottom, he never shows it and then just drops it so it appears to go "up" at 3:10. Again some topology he gets it off at 3:20 he sticks it on the wand from his right hand so its no surprise that it "transfers" to the wand at 3:40 meanwhile covsring it with his grip of the wand. At 3:54 he clearly sticks it in his left sleave. His javket looks very suspicious, look at his right sleeve it cleaely has some white undercover probably some sort of contraption to transfer it from one sleave to another. At 4:30 the ring is in his right palm and he stick it into the box inside open jar, box is inside the ball of wool inside the jae with some sort of side door. At 4:38 as he gets the balls out he discreetly closes the jar and maybe does a twist covered by his taking out first two wool balls.By 4:50 all is done. The only non obvious thing judging from the recording is transfering ring from one sleeve to another, as he clearly sticks the ring into the basket with his right hand, it does not have to be a jacket mechanism it could be some moment not shown. But given that there is something that fooled Penn and Teller who knew the yarn trick, it could be this mechanism for transfering ring from one hand to another.
It is also possible (though not necessary) that there was another device that eased the path from his right hand to the box inside an open jar, maybe some channel so he does not need to push the ring. He may remove it as he throws the first balls with the ball possibly. That is by no means necessary as he could just use his hand (there is btw no reason for him to take the wand at that point it is just a cover for sliding the ring in). Also there might be no twosting of the top of the jar necesaary just slide it into position, twist opening may be just theatrics. Also notice how he tumbles the jar, this is to cover the fact rhat the box was protruding slightly from the top. Lots of small details. But is it worthy a FU trophy? Penn and Teller didnt think so, but as per new recomendations challenges are not to be made while recording, but on the break. And apparently thats what this guy did by explaining all these little details and Penn and Teller agreed that he made enough of details to award him the coveted FU trophy, which they have been giving liberaly lately apparently (the worst case was perhaps that Argentinian guy who was pity given the trophy for an obvious trick because a dimwit spectator ruined his trick).
This was amazing dude. I saw how disappointed you were when they first said you didn't fool them. I could tell you thought maybe they did and you did the amazing/awesome/respectable thing by accepting defeat. Then you got the trophy! Couldn't ask for a more entertaining fool us segment.
You're FUNNY! I love that trick! After the crowd sat in stunned silence, and you're saying "Calm down." ROFL. The ONLY way this is possible is that you are performing real magic. The shocker was that you didn't even touch the end product. As far as I can tell, you stopped time, made whatever changes were necessary, and then restarted time. The trick calls for you to do that five or six times, and job done! TRULY astounding. All good wishes.
Wow, throughout most of the performance I was surprised how well I could follow and thought it was basically just foam balls. But that ending... I was increasingly pushed to the edge of the seat until my mind was thoroughly blown :D What a spectacular performance!
this was one of those moments where I was in awe of the trick and as much as I love Penn & Teller, I so hope they don't how it's done. Two big wins here, Ben - that seemed utterly impossible & Penn & Teller - magic with integrity, pure class

Respect for Penn & Teller! And congrats, Ben!
Congratulations ! You deserve it !
This was amazing dude. I saw how disappointed you were when they first said you didn't fool them. I could tell you thought maybe they did and you did the amazing/awesome/respectable thing by accepting defeat. Then you got the trophy! Couldn't ask for a more entertaining fool us segment.
your act was awesome man! really! 👍
Great story and performance, it is a real magic!
Awesome job, Ben! Great performance
HUGE integrity points - bravo, bravo ❤
This was so impressive and the storytelling and mythos added a whole new layer
You're FUNNY! I love that trick! After the crowd sat in stunned silence, and you're saying "Calm down." ROFL. The ONLY way this is possible is that you are performing real magic. The shocker was that you didn't even touch the end product. As far as I can tell, you stopped time, made whatever changes were necessary, and then restarted time. The trick calls for you to do that five or six times, and job done! TRULY astounding. All good wishes.
Beautiful presentation. Wonderful ending. 🎉
Wow, throughout most of the performance I was surprised how well I could follow and thought it was basically just foam balls. But that ending... I was increasingly pushed to the edge of the seat until my mind was thoroughly blown :D What a spectacular performance!
I enjoyed the humbleness from both the magician on stage and p&t more so than the trick.
I’ve been to Ben’s show in Houston. It’s a lot of fun and a chance to see a world-class magician up close. If you haven’t seen it you should go!
Its very good to know they check their hypotesis. Serious commitment for serious magic.
this was one of those moments where I was in awe of the trick and as much as I love Penn & Teller, I so hope they don't how it's done. Two big wins here, Ben - that seemed utterly impossible & Penn & Teller - magic with integrity, pure class
Amazing routine! You crushed it
Congrats Ben! What a rollercoaster that must have been.
Congrats! That was an awesome trick!
That is the DEFINITION of CLASS and HONOR! It could have ended when he left the stage. Kudos for making sure they got it right.
It was a great act though. I loved the ring onto the knitting needle. That was great! *Oh wow, I paused it before the end... Congrats on the fool!
you are great ben, love your magic show
