  • Bryan Saint fools Penn & Teller a second time with a green folder and a Rubik’s cube! Penn & Teller: Fool Us
    Returning to Penn & Teller: Fool Us (S10, E6), Charlotte NC based magician Bryan Saint takes a green folder and a Rubik’s cube and shows a trick that can only be done on TV. He then becomes one of the few magicians in 10 seasons to fool Penn & Teller more than once. In Penn’s own words, “We just cannot figure out how you did it!”
    Bryan originally fooled Penn & Teller with take on a classic rope routine using a phone charger. You can see that video here:

    I love they give the magician rights to post their segments on personal UA-cam accounts it just shows the good hearts Penn and teller have not monetizing everything so they can benefit. I hated Howard stern was asking Penn why he did cameos and he was like I just like to be involved with my fans and it’s one way I can.

    Bryan uses a black hole sticker, kind of like in Looney Tunes cartoons. This opens a portal to an alternate dimension and he can just pull cubes in and out accordingly. Once done, sticker removed and torn up in the folder. You can call the Acme Company to order all this.

But knowing what the end was going to be completely mind fucked me when he showed what appears to be 3 Cubes at once. I knew he had two and I figured he would eventually ditch one and just be left with the last one but then after showing 3 he shows a green cube and I’m like fuck…so well done. They are obviously gimmicked in some way and probably some sleight of hand but overall bravo. I don’t even want to know how it’s done. It was perfect. I was soooo engaged the whole time.

      It was interesting that the first time he just put the unsolved real cube behind the folder and then grabbed the shell with 5 sides, so it's pretty obvious how he did it. But that was just misdirection. He then started solving the real cube with one hand behind the folder over and over. Then he shows the 3 cubes at the same time and then the green cube later. So we are really confused at this point. So now we're thinking OK there are 4 cubes and then at the end there is only 1 cube. The only thing that is kind of suspicious if you really looked was at the end, the table and the folder start vibrating caused by him collapsing the shells of the cubes flat but you really can't see anything when he removes the folder because I imagine both the table and the flattened cubes are all a really dark black which is hard for the human eye to differentiate.

    As someone who can actually solve a cube in less than a minute. The quick 1 handed solve is a easy thing most people don't understand. but where did the other cubes go? Im thinking when he pulled out the 2 extra cubes, they're paper, or collapsible cubes that don't actually turn. Because there are some suspicious bumps to the table. The rest of the motions are him solving and scrabbling the same physicals cube.

    • @jellygoo
      @jellygoo 5 місяців тому +4

      Would also be my guess. It all goes from the moment he showed the 3 cubes at the same time (+ the green one). He makes 3 hand movements (for the 3 fakes) that seem to go deeper to the level of the table to stash them away. Which is also why he always made sure to make very obvious bumps and switches before, just slightly different.

    • @piderman871
      @piderman871 5 місяців тому +5

      Yeah he's "scrambling" the cubes but it's probably a moveset to get it to be 4 or so moves away from being solved. It'll look pretty scrambled by that point. Also he never rotates the green cube so it'll be a fake.

    • @guy3717

      Im pretty sure hes clacking the big ring hes wearing on the table when he puts down the fake cubes. Its also more obvious when he has the green cube in his hand since he presents it for much longer and without movement, hes careful not to make it appear like it has no weight and never turns it.

      I wondering why he was using a green folder specifically instead of just a paper. If the other cubes are paper fakes, he could hide them in the green folder. So when he rips up the folder he's essentially getting rid of the evidence of the trick.

    Here is my current theory regarding the trick. Bryan has a real cube, and two faux-cubes. One of the faux-cubes is a fake solved cube, at 3:21 he places the "solved cube" behind the folder, and at 3:31 he places the real cube behind the folder, solves it quickly with one hand, and pulls it out again. He does this again and again until he pulls out the "solved cube" again at 4:35. He then places it back and it is never seen again. At 4:45 Bryan pulls out the second faux-cube alongside the real cube and the first faux-cube, making sure to only show three of it's faces, the red, white, and blue faces. I believe this is because the other three faces are those of the "green cube". When he pulls out the "green cube" at 5:12, the top face is not actually visible, and a second later he places that face on his palm, once again only allowing three faces to be seen. The most important part is that he never manipulates the faces of this faux-cubes, so they can be made compressible. Being compressible, they can both be slipped into the sleeve of the folder or some other location, cleanly disposing of them.
    But the real question isn't how he did it in theory, but how he did it in practice without it being instantly obvious. This would indeed logically explain the trick, but the explanation fails to account for the seemingly impossible skill with which it was done. I believe this is the mystery Penn and Teller could not solve, and thus why they admitted defeat. Even I must admit defeat, because after spending 20 minutes reviewing the trick over and over, going through specific points frame by frame, I still cannot figure out when and where he disposed of the false cubes.

What I don't understand is how theres multiple cubes and then only oine :D well done and kudos for not making noise while solving them one-handed

    I saw what happens the first time through!!!! There is only one cube... but it's not a regular cube. You can see as he scrambles the cube he needs to hold in a way that it doesn't automatically spring back into positions. The little cubes are held by elastics that "unwinds" the cube as he sets it down. You can see a couple times when he's scrambling the cube it tries to snap back and he has to hold it a certain way so it stays mixed.

    He told you the truth throughout the whole performance: he never once switched cubes. The nice part of the trick (other than the effortless quick solve) is where props went. My guess is the table, as thin as it is, has an open slit at the back.

      I think Teller did figure it out. But it wasn't the table. I believe I figured it out, but I really don't want to say explicitly here. But basically, slowing it down at 4:35 shows one part. (Which is damn impressive even if you know *logically* how it's happening. To use Penn's words. Because it's amazing sleight of hand I'd be hard pressed to produce another example.) And at the reveal, he really isn't "switching cubes" something else is happening. Basically, it's to do withe cube and his power of suggestion.

    impressive trick, very impressive "sleight of cube",
    every cube he held has the same pattern though, he disguises it by using the different colors
    but look for a face with a 2x2 of 1 color, on top is a 2x1 of another color, next to it another 2x1 and in the corner a single color
    with some practice this would make the cube in an easy state for a 1 hand solve since it only needs 2 rotations

      It's obvious he's speed solving cubes at various points, what isn't clear is how he managed to hide at least two out of three cubes during the performance. It can't be shells, since we see every cube being turned at some point, and shells obviously can't turn.

    I love the one guy not moving in the center of the audience with just a fixed expression. I also wonder if there was something about the table Teller was looking at which hid something.
    At least two of the solves could have been done one handed in a second as they were only 3 moves from being solved. And when he was doing some of the scrambling in the open you could tell he knows the fast flick methods of speed cube solving. I could also hear a cube turning when he held it behind his jacket (it sounded like 3 fast moves).
    However I suspect he was also doing swaps between his coat and the table at points and he has at least 2 hidden on him…although probably more.
    The green cube is likely just a rigged prop, and could have also been stand in for a solved cube as well (it’s not too hard to make a mechanical cube that doesn’t function and can change between two color sets).
    One thing that I don’t know is if these are fully legit cubes, or possible the MAGIKUBE 1.0 or 2.0. They can also be modified GO Cubes or similar which are motorized self scrambling and unscrambling cubes designed for speed cube competition training. Unfortunately just three of the latter two options would make the trick extremely easy, so some part of me is hoping he just practiced solving specific moves really quickly.
