I'm actually glad logos are becoming more simple and rounded, what would I do if my children's eyes were harmed by having to see a rough edge? Truly the greatest thing capitalism has given us is the homogenization of logos 🙃

This was such a comfy video. I agree that a lot of older logos are just so much better (I know it wasn't talked about but the fact Burger King tried to emulate one of its oldest logos and it actually looks better then the 2000s one says a lot). It's just fun to be able to hear people talk about logos and aspects they love or hate. It makes me happy lol Also I do miss the old Aztrosist logo
Old logos represented creativity and artistry. Modern ones are basically homogeneity incarnate.
In one of my art courses, we accidentally went on a rant about what happened to the Pringle guy. It's established all of us hate it with a passion. Also, Hello Fresh is anti-union from what I heard from a few people I know who are working there (they forced them to be in meetings talking about how much unions are "bad")

There was just something more to the misshapen letters that I like.

1: 1950s sears roebuck "atomic" logo. it's awesome because it's an atom, but if you look closely it's made of an S and an R for sears roebuck. Super cool
old logos were great relics of the era they belonged in , modern logos just dont fit into any sort of style or vibe ,and as a result feel soulless
so in a way it does fit because it represents the time
people will miss the current logos when we cycle back to more complex logos. There already seems to be a gradual return to gradients and skeuomorphism.

A video actually sort of explains this well, from " Why Companies Are 'Debranding' ". Simplifying your logo will make it more identifiable in digital format. When it comes to small icons in websites or phone/computer apps, a simplified logo works best. You can scale it down and not lose too much detail but in print, magazines, billboards, posters, you'd probably want detail and gradients because higher quality logos signify a higher quality brand, but we don't see these logos in print as much anymore. Everything is through our phones or computers. Flat colors and simplicity will lend more flexibility for the logos to be used across devices, especially when it comes to scaling up or down the image.
That doesn't explain DUNKIN' DONUTS getting rid of the DONUTS and just becoming DUNKIN'.

Listen, I'm all in for making logos more compatible with digital screens, but the problem with it is "might as well dumb down the logo / make the logo into a fucking app icon, because everyone else's doing it."
I'm seething at that notion.

I really do miss when companies had skeuomorphic-esque logos instead of these bland, flat logos but it doesn’t really effect me as I change app icons and application logos back to the old ones because they simply just look better.
skeumorphic designs work better too , against any wallpaper shaded app icons can be distinguished apart from each other easier than bland simple ones
When Skeuomorphic logos were a thing, people hated them for being stupid and wanted simpler logos.

@lol That's not really due to liking them but more being _used to_ them. People always dislike something they're not used to until either they realize it's not bad or they get used to it.
Yea, people are hypocritical on change, ha. They want it in their head but not real because it requires flexibility.
That said, I do think the case of "new is becoming soulless" is not based on "not used to it". There was transitioning and the simplicity is easy on the mind. Yet people are slowly hating them more and more.
Those old 90s logos are cooler than the over simplified corporate clean style of today’s advertising. However i dont want to go back to that old 90s style, instead it would be cool if we advanced into a new style
a good way to compare is handwritten manuscripts in medieval ages to printing press copies. handwritten manuscripts are -without a doubt- way more aesthetically pleasing & artistically creative - but the labour/supplies were not convenient. But w/ logos it’s more the program/coding that takes a break but the design concept diminishing for convenient general-type is still the big similarity

Hi corporate logo designer here, these may or may not decrease brand trust and approachability, these new designs are research approved by the masses, and are optimized to maximize some metrics that are important to business, like increasing recognizability, and transferability of the logo especially in the internet age where logo's have to fit in tiny spaces, and not pollute the rest of the design elements
I like Google's current logo- There was something somewhat unsettling about the old google logo to me. I think a short glance at my channel reveals how I feel about the United Airlines re-brand... They did Saul Bass dirty!
People are a little harsh on newer logos but if I remember correctly someone made it sound a lot smarter to me one time, saying that the less clutter in the logo and more simple colours allows for it to be recognized from a blur or from a quick glance or at smaller resolutions since it's not as much information to take in. Like yeah you could say 'well nuh uh! my brain remembers 's old logo so well that i can see it from a distance and immediately recognize it!'
well yeah, thats *you* the world isn't tailored to YOU. I dont particularly care one way or another how a logo looks but there's a point to consider that while maybe modern logos are more boring, they're definitely a lot more recognizable at a glance. Its a logical evolution.

I mean, to a point, sure, but if you keep simplifying past the point of sense, you eventually end up with a bunch of logos that are roughly the same shape (usually round) and color (usually white, blue, orange, or red). And then they are so simplified that they are no longer really recognizable. Like Firefox's logo was already pretty simple and recognizable already, and then they oversimplified so much that they almost removed the "fox" entirely.
That's a bit circular logic. Identification comes from seeing something often. Any logo, old or new, can become identifiable at "a glance". Otherwise people wouldn't have nostalgia and association for the old logos.
Nothing changes from simplifying them in this case.

Ayyy fellow graphics design nerd and artist and stuff; right on!. I mean majority of the corporate logos still look like crap visually. They're good in a visual and organizational hierarchy sense like you've said, but if we're talking creatively and stylistically, nah not even close. And I'm saying this as a person who can't draw for crap either but still does graphic des., fine arts from time to time for the fun of it and in my spare leisurely time. Maybe if I somehow improve and do it more frequent and in practice, I'll do like some commissions and whatever, but that's not ever gonna happen any time soon I think.

Yeah the damn corporate logos of today are so like very sterilized and clinical unlike the actual good creative and bright visually appealing and easy-on-the eyes choices you listed, Aztro. This video was surprisingly a banger plus a half for random good measure. Hella fresh though.

I hate minimalism so much. I'm all for making things easier for people to read or comprehend but I can only sit in so many white waiting rooms or scroll through so many white webpages or go to so many white houses where everything is cubed and sleek snd perfectly designed and I'm losing my goddamn mind. With the rise of technology comes the rise of screenreaders and making things easier for those who have disabilities (be it being blind or deaf) but still want to enjoy the world wide web, and if companies simplifying things is truly about making stuff more inclusive I don't see how hard it is to just implement these basic features on their websites instead of simplifying everything to an infuriating degree (which they rarely do anyways, most people have to get a separate application or program to do that for them).
I don't know how longer I can take the rise of corporate web takeover and the whole "futurism" aesthetic which has been around for 30 years and isn't futuristic anymore, it's just dystopian. And I hate the fact that I'm not a graphic designer or someone who has influence over this kind of thing because every single time I complain to someone about this they always say "well then do something about it" MFER I AM BUSY DOING MY ALGEBRA HOMEWORK?? Do you think I have the time to go to corporate meetings and talk with ghazillionares who want to save 0.01 cents instead of spending 5$ on making an interesting webpage???
The internet used to be a place I could go to get AWAY from the incessant need of greed and companies pretending to be hip and relatable and "I'm just like you!!" but ever since social media became the norm and the logos became 2d and advertisements have been the main focus on 99% of sites it's made me just as stressed and I never realize it until I stop talking about it. I know I sound like an old man saying "back in my day" but even as someone who technically wasn't apart of the wild west of 90s internet I can still recall how much more fun and exciting it was to go to some random page that'll probably give me a virus for playing a flash game stolen from newgrounds and. Good lord I need to stop having all this built up inside of me

2009 Firefox logo was the best Firefox logo even though it’s less detailed than the first one. But that’s a case of just cleaning the logo. There’s that… then there’s minimalist logos. Screw minimalist logos!!
I also think they’re cheaper to make because they go for simple look from the start instead of trying to make something more interesting work without being too much
