  • Toyo MT / AT and Hybrid have become one of the top truck tires in the industry. Kody is super informed on all truck tires. We went down to Smith and Son to talk to him about the Toyo lineup. Billy at BTUFF.

I’ve ran the ko2, the toyo rt, and the new toyo at3. All 3 were great. The ko2s wore the fastest in my experience. I got 45,000 miles out of the rts, and I just switched to the at3s. So far I like the at3 the best. Ride quality, noise, and on road performance the toyo at3 has been the best!

I've had my new set of Toyo Open Country AT3s for about a month now and I absolutely love them! I have the 285/75r17 on my Silverado and they fit and look fantastic! Had an alignment done the day after installation and in the limited amount of time I've had them I am extremely satisfied and much prefer these over the BFG KO2s that I replaced.

yep I have Ko2 - what do you like better? Also, the 285/75 is a bit higher, and not as common. I'm looking at doing the same since it will raise the pumpkin just a bit for off road. What were your reasons for going 285/75 vs. 285/70?

They are the best looking mud tire out there with a smooth ride. Just put 285/75r/17 on my 2006 duramax with leveling keys.

The absolute TWO BEST TRUCK tires on the market are the TOYO OC AT 3 and the TOYO OC MT . I have both rated a 9.5 for AT 3 and a 9.0 for MT . Yes they are more then most tires but TOYO rubber compound is exceptional for long lasting mileage , quietness , versatility ect.
Toyo you can’t go wrong. And this is from a die hard BFG guy!

Hey, im looking to get Toyo MT tires, how long to they usually last? Mileage wise? And do I need to rotate them every often? And isn’t there like a certain speed(when on highway) I can drive so it doesn’t wear out the rubber out?

I have bought BFGs AT for all my trucks for years. I even put BFGs on my 70 Challenger. The same thing all ways happens. They dry rot before my mileage is up. They break down around that 5 year mark for some reason.

The AT2 is a fantastic tire. I have a set on my 08 ram 3500 in a 35x12.50r17. They are considered the "extreme" tread pattern for the AT2 which is a bit wider gaps bewteen the tread lugs and more aggressive side wall tread pattern. My truck is mainly used for towing grossing between 22k and 30k and these tires take it very well. Not soft feeling when loaded heavy. The wear is incredible. I currently have around 40,000-45,000 on them and they will easily go another 10,000 to 15,000 before I'm to the wear bars. I have 2 with pretty large punctures in them and even after the plug patches were put in they are wearing great and ride perfect still. I drive mainly gravel miles as well and they don't seem to "soften the edges" of the lugs or "wash out" like I see with a lot of other tires like bfg all terrains. Overall a fantastic tire. I've wanted to go to a 37x13.50r17 toyo MT for a couple years now but these AT2's keep going and going. My wife also loves the AT3's on her traverse because of how well they handle gravel and snow compared to highway tires. I will never run anything other than toyo from now on.

Man I’m reading all these comments of the tire sizes they are running. 35”-37” tires on 20” and 22” rims. I couldn’t get rid of my 20” wheels fast enough on all my Dodges. 2000 Dodge, 2004 Dodge, 2005 Dodge, 2010 Dodge, 2012 Dodge, 2015 Dodge. All those trucks had 20” wheels on the when I first bought them and the first thing I did was get rid of those rough riding 20” wheels. I’m keeping my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab Diesel. 18” x9” Method wheels and 295/70R18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Rides better than my friends 2018 and 2020 Ram 2500s Crew Cab 4x4s with 20” wheels and 35”x12.50 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. You want to smooth out your ride than get ride of those rough riding 20” and bigger wheels. It is a night and day difference.

I had similar tread pattern to the at3 in the cooper atr same design I will say they are horrible in snow and mud and they would wander all over. My 2nd dodge I had to use 4x4 in the most mild mud and snow and still didn't do well. Put bfg ko2 a/t on same truck in 2 wd same mild snow, mud no problem. 4x4 I was real happy. Just my input.

I prefer the BFG KO2's over the Toyo's all day. I've ran both the Toyo AT's and the MT's, I haven't tried the RT's yet, but the KO2's blew both the MT and AT out of the water for ride quality, snow, ice, dirt, sand and road. The MT's did do better in mud, but that's expected. Overall I keep going back to the BFG's over Toyo's as of lately.

They are terrible in the snow and rain here in Alaska, I ran them for two sets before switching to the Toyo AT3, they are MUCH better in severe weather. For reference, I run them on a Ram Power Wagon, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and a Ram 1500 Bighorn 4x4 driving 47 mile each way to work, plus off roading for exploring and hunting seasons Aug-Nov. Anyway, to each their own, but Alaska will let you know really fast if your tires are not up to the task😎👍🇺🇸

    • @_BARCODE

@@Roninforged I wasn't impressed with the original KO's, the KO2's are night and day better. They're better than the Toyo AT-2's. I've ran pretty much every Toyo Tire for trucks from MT, RT and AT and the best all around performance is the BFG KO2's. I have land in the Yaak Montana and drive in inches of ice and snow. They aren't the best for feet of snow, but they perform the best on ice. Im currently running the RAZR MT's which do great for deep snow, not so much for Ice tho.

@@_BARCODE Cool brother, to each their own. I have ran every too tire out there from Moab to Alaska, including areas around Kalispel/Whitefish MT, and the Toyo AT-3’s performed better in snow, ice, and rain considerably better than the other in my experience. KO-2’s are nice, but wet traction and mileage/longevity leave something to be desired. Just for reference, I run the Toyo’s on a lifted and built Power Wagon and a Jeep, my wife runs them on a Ram Laramie 4x4. I will agree that both tire are among the top in the industry and you will be well served by whichever you choose. Have a great weekend, and happy wheelin’ my friend.😎👍

if you mount them with that yellow dot lining the valve you barely need any weight . Unfortunately 99% of the tire installers totally disregard that important tire manufacturer recommendation resulting on add ons of unnecessary weight that will eventually fly off the tire which results in vibrations at the steering wheel then we start blaming the tire quality

I'm closing in on 45k, tires still have 5/16" tread left. I'm mounting a new set of 35/12.50/17' RT's again today as I was that happy with them. I could easily get another 10k + no problem, but I like fresh tread for the winter months. This includes plenty of burnouts and a good amount of off road in rough rocky conditions.
Contrary to a lot of reviews, they are excellent in the rain and wet, as well as heavy snow here in Moab Utah.
Truck is a 2003 f250 quad cab 7.3 with a loaded curb weight right at 8k.
I've run Mickey Thompson mtz's, bfg ko2's, toyo mt's... By far the RT is my favorite overall for traction, looks and longevity.
