I’ve ran both of these tires and can say without a doubt that the at3 are much better tires then the ridge grapplers, minus the look, and that is it. They perform better in every aspect, other than the look.

Facts! I have the Grapplers on one truck and Wildpeaks on the other. My only regret is not waiting a little for the AT4's to come out.

@@stronglikebull2994I am curious what the Wildpeaks have had performance wise over your Grapplers in your situation. I bought a set of Wildpeak AT3W's late last summer but put on very few miles as I switched over to my dedicated winter tires ( about 10 months of winter usually in northern Alberta .. joking somewhat ). One thing I found interesting at one tire dealer I priced out the Wildpeaks at, they had a BFG KO2 and a Toyo AT3 sitting beside the Wildpeak and squeezing the tread blocks to feel the softness/hardness of the tires, the BFG and Toyo were of a much softer more pliable compound over the Wildpeak. What that translates to in the real world of tire performance, good question as per traction on dry pavement all the way to ice. I was told by the shop where I ended up buying the Wildpeaks, that they would last longer on gravel roads over the Toyo, and I know they along with other tire shops up here do NOT recommend the BFG KO2 for any considerable amount of gravel driving .. wear or should say chipping and stone drilling due to holding rocks in the tread and breaking up the tires casing structure resulting in tire failure. Ironically this is where BFG claimed to have done testing of their KO2 before they came out with it due to the extensive amount of gravel but their claim was based off of their original KO tire which was absolutely horrible on our gravel as the tire would look like it had gone through the meat grinder. I have run sets of the BFG KM2 and KM3 and they also melt off on gravel way too fast unfortunately, a good gravel tire is hard to come by. I don't think BFG will hire me as a tire rep any time soon though 😂

Absolutely love the Toyo At³. Personally I'm on my 2nd set now. Rotated every oil change, the 35X12.50 R20 I run on my 95' Chevrolet K1500 lasted just over 90000 miles. I have a farm and work in construction, so I've taken them a fair bit off road and never had an issue in mud or rock.

I stared running Toyo tires when they came out with the AT2. After The first set lasting over 70000 miles I was sold from that point i've ran them on all 4 trucks I own ever since. The company has never failed to impress on quality and with the AT3 They have really stepped up their game.

Ah, this Toyo open country AT3 looks so capable for both road/off-road condition's.
I personally like the fact that Toyo improve off-road performance of Open Country A/t compare to previous model - Open Country a/t plus.
Unfortunately here, in Russia we still don't have a 3rd generation of Open Country tires, only previous models are available.
Anyway thank u so much for your review and your work as well.

I have the ridge grapplers on a ram 1500. Oversize and heavy 10 ply tires on 20's. Wearing very well though after 20,000 plus miles, still almost full tread! I live off a ten mile gravel road I drive daily. No chunking or rock chips, even wear. These tires are great off road. Didn't pack up in mud. No digging in soft sand. They didn't hydroplane in heavy rain. Very stable actually. Only weak spot is heavy frost or icy snow pack. They act like a mud tire in extreme cold conditions. They are staying in balance. 80 to 90mph is very quiet and smooth. Good grip on asphalt. I bought them for looks mainly. They look like a mud tire from the sides. I was going to switch them out for the winter. But so far they are handling it just fine. Plus they are not wearing out as fast as my bfg all terrains. Those are a waste of money if you drive a lot. I may go back to the Falken atw's next year on my daily. Even though they are noisier and slip on gravel roads. They can handle icy conditions better. And they wear slowly.

I had the Ridge Grapplers on my 2500hd and switched to the AT3s. Both tires have performed well. In my opinion, the RGs didn’t wear as fast as the AT3 and the AT3 has road noise up until 35mph and then it gets quieter than the RG. I’d buy both again. It’s a toss up for me given the aggressive look of the RG

I have run Terra Grapplers, Trail Grapplers and Ridge Grapplers on my Land Cruisers and Tundra 4x4. I got nearly 60k out of my Trail Grapplers by rotating all 5 tires every 6k miles. Great tires...but got noisy towards end. Terra's were great tires...on road was exceptional...sand and light mud were very good as well as snow/slush/ice... Some limitations in goopy clay based mud but with enough wheel spin would clean out better than BFG AT's.... Ridge Grapplers were my attempt to compromise between the more aggressive Trails...and the more road friendly Terra's. I have had them about a year now....so far so good. I am not sure if will get 60k out of them...but they are holding well, have not experienced any wet weather handling issues...and have done well in the mud and loose conditions. I dont go offroading and rock crawling as much as I used to so contemplating going back to Terra's after this set but wont know for sure until I see how they wear...if they get noisier at highway speeds as they wear...and if handling and traction change over next year or two. I have another trip out west in mud and snow next Fall-Winter so that will be real test as the Terra Grapplers handled it suprisingly well in past. I love Nitto tires though.....out of 5 sets, I got my first puncture this year...nothing a plug kit could not fix and was back up and running. Tough as nails....

I'm running a set of the Ridge Grapps on my 18 F150 in 305-55-20 and while I love the looks I'm not sure I'll run them again. I live in the south, no snow to deal with, but rainy climate. I currently have about 45K miles on them and can likely get another 15-20K if I estimate right. They're nice and quiet and ride well and again, look great and have done well in sand. But they are crazy scary in the rain. Almost ate my stuff on a few conditions in hard rains, basically have to crawl or park it if its a heavy rain storm. Probably going to try the AT3's next go round.

Being heavier than OEM I lost 1 mpg in and around town. They’re holding up well in the often hellish Georgia heat and perform well in the rain. I love them. I will probably upgrade to Nitto’s on my 3500HD when I purchase next year.

I have the grapplers on my f350 and they were really great tires for the first 25000km but i forgot to rotate them once and they have become in need of replacement soon because of it. Overall a good tire but had poor mud performance due to slicking up a lot and very in need of frequent rotations. I will buy the AT3's for my next set and see how they do. Lack of warranty on the Nitto's is also a big downside vs the Toyo's

AT3s are crazy good on the road with tons of stability in the turns and smooth quiet ride. They also balanced perfectly. We'll see how their on road performance degrades as they wear as I think the chamfered(probably the wrong word) edges on all the tread blocks keep the squirm way down. Once that goes, it probably won't be as amazing. Competent off road. No complaints there and performs on par with everything else(where on road is exceptional). I do like that they have uneven shoulder blocks.

Currently have the ridge grapplers on a ram 2500 and at3 on a ram 1500 and the at3 are phenomenal especially in the snow… the ridge grapplers are absolutely horrific in the snow and not that great in the mud. Basically the ridge grapplers are good for lifted or aggressive looking pavement pounders in good year round weather. The at3 tires are one of my all time favorite on road, off road and in inclement weather. Have had many different tires including bfg all terrain, bfg km2, good year duratrac, kumho mud terrain, cooper discoverers, nitto terra grapplers and general grabbers. I opted for going from a 35x 12.5 r20 KO2 to a 35 x12.5 r20 ridge grappler because I got them as basically new for free.
I tested them offroad on steep muddy and rocky terrain and in a deep mud competition.
I'll say. They did amazing in the mud and steep terrain. Rock etc. Better than I expected.
So far on the icey roads, they are a little slippery. Luckily, my Silverado has good 4wd and my driving ability has kept me fine.
Would I buy them again over a KO2.. questionable. I like the 3 peak of a KO2 and rock protection a bit better. However the ridge grappler have been much quieter and better fuel consumption on the streets. Along with not retaining pebbles as much. Reducing chipped paint on my doors etc.
A few ski trips up the mountains this winter will be the deciding factor on keeping these tires or not.

So I went with ridge grappler for my 2012 4runner and they performed great on snow there was no need for chains or put it on 4 low what so ever. The Only time I was on 4 Low was when I was going down hill where there was some slick spots then I had that bad boy in 4 Low on 1st gear.
Other then that i was pretty much on 4 Hi the whole time up there.

I have 35x12.5 r20 at3 on my 19 Ram 2500 and have only got around 24k miles on them and they're down to the wear bars. I've rotated them religiously at 5k miles and keep them aired up at 72 pounds. I drove mostly highway with a couple miles of gravel road a day. I live in northern Utah and the snow and ice traction drops off substantially at about half life. I'm not very impressed and the dealer I got them from told me that 24k is considered good wear for a truck tire, so no warranty consideration. We run the at3s on our f150 patrol trucks and only get around 25k before replacement. I expect that the high speeds we travel affect that wear. I'll be trying the Nitto next.

Both excellent tires but not the correct comparison, and heavily dependent on application. The direct competitor to the Ridge Grappler is the Toyo RT, Now the RT Trail. Also, the more aggressive the tire the more prone they are to cupping and will require more often rotations to help prevent it. I've driven on both and the RT is definitely not made for snow applications, whereas the AT3 does extremely well in mud and snow.

Having both, KO2s previously, now AT3s. KO2s work better in loose sand and powder snow, AT3s are amazing on wet or slushly roads -- I can't get them to hydroplane at all, vs KO2s didn't inspire confidence in heavy rain. AT3s are better in the mud, they tend to eject mud better then KO2s. AT3s unfortunately do not do as well in powder snow, KO2s and I've seen Falken Wildpeaks deal with fresh powder like it was nothing -- I've gotten stuck with AT3s when snow wheeling, hoping to test them on rocks/moab, KO2s were awesome on that.

The tire comparison should have been done between the Nitto Ridge Grappler and the Toyo Open Country R/T, both tires are very similar, I ran a set of Toyo R/Ts on a 17 f250 diesel and they were very Quiet on road even at 37000 miles, the problem was thge 6.7 diesel with too much torque, the truck would spin the tires on dry road without pushing the throttle. I am putting the Nitto 35x12.5x17s Ridge Grapplers on my Jeep Rubicon JL, will get them mounted in a couple of days along with a 2.5 inch lift, I will comment about them after a few miles.

One of the things I like about the Toyo / Nitto lineup is they offer some different load ratings for the same size tire. I'm swapping out the 20 inch wheels on my 2020 F150 for 17 inch fuel assault's with 285/75 R17 Toyo Open Country AT 3's. Those tires are offered in both C and E load ratings. I don't haul or tow heavy loads, and my off road activity pretty much takes place on sandy beaches, so there was really no need for an E rated tire. C rated will do just fine for my applications. I think they might be the only company to offer that size in a load rating less than E.

Disagree with this review on the noise and traction side. I've had both tires. Couldn't wait to get the Ridge Grapplers off my F-150. The road noise for me was bad to say the least. The OC AT3's are much quieter in local street and highway driving. I just got the OC AT3's at Christmas. Drove from south FL to central PA with the RG's mounted and back after Xmas with the OC AT3's mounted so my opinion comes with miles of driving with both. I expect the off road traction to be very good with the OC AT3's, but have not had a chance to test them yet. As for the RG's, traction off road impressed me especially in deep snow. Took the F150 with RG's on some untraveled hunting camp back mountain roads in PA and had zero issues in 11+ inches of snow. The RG's dug in and pulled the truck along like a champ. Had it not been for the highway noise of the RG's, I would have gotten a second set NO PROBLEM. Oh and the reason for new tires was not wear, I went from 33" on 20" rims to 34.5" on 18" rims. Sold my old rims and RG's no problem and got asking price.

In Australia road surfaces in the country are horrible. No tyre company gives us any warranty. There are laws governing almost everything. The cost for everything is prohibitive. Give you an example- just to buy 2 Aussie made led spotties, a roof basket and two side steps is costing me $4000 AUD. An e-locker is $2500 and air locker $2350. No trutracks available for Nissan Patrol (not sure if they are or were sold in the US) - a Nitto R/G is $310 in 33", Toyo AT3 will not be available for a long time, Toyo RT will not be available for a long time, only Toyo At2 available at $275 each. Goodyear wrangler Duratracs are $355 each and MT Kevlar $400 each. Just to register my vehicle to drive in the state of NSW will cost me $1100 plus insurance another $850. To kit out a vehicle properly to deal with Australia's remote and vicious outback you are looking at a cool $20000 with just the essentials. They have turned this country into a retirement haven for the wealthy only with very little competition in anything.

I have a Ford F150 super crew cab… Are use it for towing and hauling and off-road and of course travel… The Toyo is about the best tire I have had… I’ve had the Goodyear wrangler I have had the Mickey Thompson on jeep wrangler... maybe it’s technology over the years but the Toyo is the best tire I have ever… 20,000 miles on ithem and I’m not looking to replace anytime soon

I have the 35x12.50x18 ridge grapplers on my 2017 f250 powerstroke. They have been decent tires. My only complaint is they get horrible wet weather road traction. I have about half tread left but i am taking them off and going to the Toyo AT3 due to that

I running Ridge Grapplers on my F-150 and love them. Never had a problem on or off road. I’ll stick to what works for me! Great tire!

I have a set off the Nitto Ridge Grappler 35x12.50r20 on my F150 and they do really well in the snow and ice as far as I'm concerned. Many miles on both and never felt any loss of control or major slipping. Im glad to see this comparison. Thank you Guys!!

I have been converted to Toyo tires, especially the at3. Excellent tread wear and road manners, they also pull like a steed off road.

Please make a video on Toyo Open Country AT3 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W! I have a 2019 Ram 1500, will be in the market for new tires soon. Currently running Nitto Ridge Grapplers, which are ok, except on wet pavement here in FL

@@calvinpell6204 they felt like slicks. Traction was horrible. Was running 275-65-20. Just replaced them with Toyo OC AT3 295-60-20. Hasn’t rained, since I had them installed to test them out

I have the falcons and love them. I do think that the Toyo open countries would be just slightly better looking at the tread blocks on the outside edges. They are staggered like a mud tire whereas the falcons are not.

i have a set of ridge grapplers on my ram rebel. Defiantly they require more maintenance than the oem toyo that came stock on the truck, I might get 60k ish out of the nitto where I got over 100 k out of the toyo. As of this writing I have only6 ran Toyo on my jeep and now going back to the toyo on my ram rebel 1500. All of them have been usa made tires as well.

I have the Nitto Ridge grapplers 35/12.5/20 on my 2017 f250, with 50k mi already on them and are still very quiet I’ve run Nittos on my trucks for years and I live in the Chicago area and plow in the winters. Great tires, I would highly recommend them to anyone, I’m gonna be getting a second set in the next 10k mi.

I recently swapped out the stock 20 inch wheels on my 2020 F150 for aftermarket 17s with Toyo Open Country AT 3s LT 285/75 R17 Load Range C tires. That size is also available in an E rating, but my driving applications don't call for E rated tires. So far, I'm very happy with them. Videos and pictures really don't do these tires justice. Those lugs are bigger than you think, and the tire itself definitely says "quality". Nothing unusual as far as road noise, but certainly a bit noisier than a typical highway tire design. As far as the ride, it's just a bit rougher than the p rated 20s I had from the factory, but nothing I would consider obnoxious or uncomfortable. I would imagine the E rated version of these tires would be a bit stiffer. So far, nothing to complain about with these tires, though I haven't had them on the truck for a long period of time yet. It's the middle of February in Pennsylvania at the time I'm posting this, so hopefully Mother Nature will throw down a large blanket of the white stuff sometime soon. I'd really like to get these tires into some good snow, as they certainly look like they're up to the task.
