THANK YOU! Was looking for how to use a color wheel and found this video; the weight way of looking at colors made my soul sing!

I just found your channel. WOW! you are fun to listen to and I love the fact that you don't subscribe to absolutes. Once you are in this crazy place most call "The World" anything goes. Find your own place. And don't be afraid if that place changes. It should. Also, if you are a new mom and you can get it together enough to make this video you deserve a gold medal!

Thanks , color has been a looong painful process for knitting projects. Picking colors takes longer than the knitting. Grabbing my phone and trying it.

This was sooo helpful! I am always terrified of 'colour picking' !

What you're calling weight is what many color theorists know as value. Another dimension of color to explore is known as "saturation". That's color intensity. As you desaturate blue, it moves through misty blue and steel blue to cool gray. As you desaturate yellow, it moves through ochre to tan, to sand. As you desaturate red, it moves through dusty rose and mauve to granite. Most of my favorite color palates play with this dimension, either sustaining the same saturation through varied hues, or different values of one monochrome neutral offset by one vivid (saturated) complementary color. Different hues (color wheel colors) are at their most intense at different values, so if you want an intense blue, it will likely be the dark in your color scheme, but an intense yellow will be the light color.

I just purchased Blue and Yellow Don’t Make Green. It’s a color sturdy book aimed at painters, but its a good springboard for dyeing. I’m old enough to remember color blocking in fashion. The worst combo ever, was purple and red. Eww
