Hi there! For today's video, I'm pulling out all of my 'color inspiration' books and sharing them with you. I LOVE finding inspiration for new FFTP colorways, watercolor sketches, home decor, and knitting projects in the pages of actual, physical books (gasp!) and these books are some fantastic sources of that inspiration. I've linked to them all in the description box and I'll link to them here as well. Enjoy!

Leatrice Eiseman actually invited me to her home in the late 70s to do a color analysis for me. She was wonderful and at that time she was a classic optimistic personality. I see she is 90 now . I have ordered her Pantone book for my library. Thank you.

Love this video!! It is so easy to get overwhelmed with color combination choices!! One of my favorite books for inspiration is Kaffe Fassett’s ‘Glorious Inspiration for Needlepoint and Knitting’. I also have a couple other books by him - he is a master with color!!

Well this inspired me to buy two of the books and as a natural dyer I have a third- True Colors. I can get deep, bright saturated colors with my method of natural dyeing and all of these are inspirational. But I had to grab Patterns of India and In the Mood for Colour. Gorgeous books. And I concur with the comment about Kaffe Fassett. Back in the 1980's when Glorious Knits came out, everyone was grabbing it for its lush color work. Even non-knitter fiber artists and craftspeople latched on to his work. There was a tapestry quality to it that spoke to weavers as well as knitters.

You are such an enabler, Tayler. So dangerous! I just watched the plant fiber episode and wanted (badly) to purchase some of the yarns you showed (that one by the Swedish dyer, The Librarian!!! Too beautiful) and now this. I used to draw and paint, and now with yarn needs, color is a huge interest. I will "have" to check out a couple of these books... darn it.

Thanks! If I ever got into dying yarn, I think I would turn to 4 recipe books I have that have the most amazing photos. If one didn't cook, they would easily be coffee table books. My fave type of pics are markets with spices, fruits, veggies etc.

You are such an intelligent, interesting, smart person. Your mind is truly a Palace! It's a wonderful thing that you take us there, in some of the rooms, because it must have so many interesting rooms, that Palace! ( and you are beautiful, and the way you talk is also very attractive, but that is not that important compared to the rest....) . I loved this episode! ❤️ love from Lisbon!

Great episode! It made me think of The Last Roll Of Kodachrome, which was used by National Geographic photojournalist Steve McCurry. In 1984, he was in an Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan and took the picture of the green-eyed girl. That picture ended up on the cover of National Geographic's June 1985 issue. "The Afghan Girl," which became one of the magazine's most widely recognized photographs
I saw the photos in an exhibit. The colors were amazing! The exhibit was in Italy!
National Geographic has a documentary about The Last Roll Of Kodachrome. There is a book about this, "Kodachrome, End of the Run: Photographs from the Final Batches."

“In the Mood for Colour” was my favorite book that you showed. You said you enjoy shots showing people in them. I am the opposite. I enjoy landscapes and still shots with earthy colors. Also very muted pastel colors. Calming to me. 🙂 Thank you for showing the books. 🧶

Such an interesting post today! I love seeing where you get inspiration. I love to look around as I walk in nature and see shades of sky, cloud, trees and pops of colors from flowers, shade and dappling. I notice that more since taking watercolor classes. The yarn color I'm using for a baby blanket is called "Lambs Ear" and I love growing lambs ear, feeling the softness of it and the color. So much inspiration out there! Thanks so much for sharing yours.

Random fact time: when I was a kid, I loved going to the paint store with my stepdad and collecting all of the color booklets. The swatches were fine, too, but the booklets really captivated me. Many of the books you showed have the same vibe they did, and now I want to add them to my library. I just really enjoy color. Color was always the element driving my paintings, and now I use it to drive my yarn palettes. Loved this video! Super inspired from these colorful books!

Same! Exact same experience for me as well with my dad at the hardware store. I had soo many color chips and pamphlets collected! When I first started dyeing yarn, those pamphlets were my first sources of inspiration. Now my boys do it as well.
And the smell of that section! Intoxicating. Probably not the greatest for you, but I don’t care. I love paint and color. ❤️

Great episode, so many beautiful books 🤩 My go-to colour resource at the moment is 'Colour Harmony for Artists' by watercolour artist Ana Victoria Calderon. She uses a photo to inspire a colour palette and then uses that to create her own piece of work. Some amazing colour combinations that would be suitable for fibre folk too. Thank you!

Love this video! I own the Secret Lives of Color and enjoyed it so much. I have A Dictionary of Color Combinations that sits on my desk, similar idea to Palette Perfect but much more minimal. I really love that Palette Perfect and Pantone have more photos and grouped by mood, totally adding them to my collection!

I LOVE the Dictionary of Color Combinations! I have this as well and regret not including it. It’s such a small little book that I think it slipped my mind, but it’s a fantastic reference. But yes. I love it when things are grouped by mood/vibe. It aligns soo much with how I perceive and gravitate to color. Thank you for watching Kimberly! I’m glad this provided some additional inspiration.

For me color is everything. 🦚I dress in the colors my mood suggests. It would be a punishment to me having to get dressed in black or any uniform everyday. My husband is very different. He would love to have a uniform. Color makes me feel alive and allows me to feel myself. A beautiful color combination makes me go into a rapture. 🦜And nature is a never ending source for color compositions. I really agree with you that not only the obvious combinations are the best. So often I found new amazing color partners by accident. It only shows that the composition of colors is an emotional thing. I love it!🌈 I´m now dreaming of a dusty pink sweater with olive green accents.🥰
