Hope you're having a great week so far! I get asked regularly how I choose my colors for projects, so wanted to share my favorite ways. I would love to know your approach too. It's always fun to learn new things! x
I am working on a blanket now and am trying to find 8-10 colors, that bring it all together, Just switch it up and add a new color along with several other colors from neighboring squares...its fun, when i come up with enough of the ones I like I will reproduce those for the main blanket.
I always struggle with getting colours right. Your tips are going to help me not only with my crocheting and putting yarn together but also with colour schemes for my paper crafts. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you ❤great info I love fall colors but when making an afghan for others who want it to compliment their home is a whole new ball game so thank you very much
I work retail in a department store and most of my inspiration for my projects come from the beautiful color patterns I see on blouses and dresses. Everything from how bold colors are combined on party dresses to pastel, floral colors on blouses. And yes, neutral colors like creamy white, beige and black are all used to bring any color combo together.
Thank you for demonstrating how to work with the color wheel. I've always felt that my sense of colors is a complete opposite of my hearing the harmony of sound! - This will help me to narrow down the choice when I look for variegated or striped yarn. The colors that present on a ball of yarn often appear very different when the project is worked up. Thanks again!!
Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it when colors come together. I am not a huge fan of random scrappy yarn projects. This also gives me the confidence to venture beyond my normal color choices and know that it will look great.
Thanks so much I love playing with colours.. When I'm. In the yarn shop. I spend ages working out what goes with what. This has-been a great help. Love the colours. You choose for your. Projects... Happy. Crocheting from. Ireland xxx
Hiya - I have just ordered the very same colour wheel as the one you have loved. It will really help - never used one before. I am also a quilter, and sometimes struggle with colours for quilts. The problem is there are so many beautiful colours out there, but they do not necessary always go together LOL.. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience, tips and tricks. So pleased I found your channel. In fact, I was telling someone about your channel in my little local wool shop yesterday. Have a good weekend. x
The color wheel is such a good help, I think you’ll use it a lot. I’m so glad the video helped and I appreciate your kind words . Great to have you here💕💕
I recently completed a granny square project where I chose the colors at random from a yarn supplier website, then more or less grabbed blindly from one color to the next. While I’m pleased with the end result overall, some of the combinations I might have chosen differently in hindsight. I am a little “Type A” with things like this so choosing randomly is outside my comfort zone. I like to have some sort of order or formula when choosing so this video is very helpful!
This is most helpful. I am not good at picking colors and now I have new tools to help me make decisions. Thank you for using your time to make this video.
Oh my Goodness, this is so Informative and Helpful! Thank you. Now I understand how to use this Color Wheel that I have! I had read how to use it somewhere but I just still didn't get it into my head until I watched your Tutorial. Now, I 👀 how to use it! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Thank you for this wonderful video. I also go to stores that have a home decor section. You can look at artwork. I absolutely love colors. I’m have often been called the crayon lady. I’m on Pinterest and have a pin group called color schemes with over 5000 pins under my name Sandy Moore…you are more them welcome to use as inspiration…I do all the time!!! I also look at fashion for color inspiration. Thanks again!!!
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m learning so much from you and admire your beautiful work and colour choices. I’ve been collecting a palette of different coloured crochet yarns for the past few months to start a granny square blanket (A small one😂). You’ve gave me the confidence to pick colours, shades and a neutral colour. A handmade coaster bought on holiday is going to be the bases of my colour palette for the blanket. I’m looking at objects in a whole new light😂. I don’t want to copy your beautiful blankets square for square because they are your imagination and gift so I’m using your tips to make mine, mine! Thank you again, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your sharing with us because I see the work you are putting into UA-cam and I know how expensive it is to join online classes so get this knowledge and teaching for free is very, very much appreciated. ❤❤❤
Oh, how lovely! Thank you for the time you took to tell me this, it means a lot to me. Im so glad you have found the videos useful and i hope you have a blast working on your granny square blanket ! 💕💕💕
I and my oldest son designed a guy version of a shawl for my 67 year old pastor. This took forever, as I was not used to designing stuff for a guy. I finally found a picture of a pirate ship at night and between the picture and Patrick's ideas designed it. It wound up being various blues, teal, gray, and a little bit of ivory. Thank you for the ideas. I wish that I had known about the Coolors web site though. It would have made it easier.
this was a big help, as I'm working on a cohesive palette for Helen Shrimpton's Mandala Madness. I'm going with 5 colours, and even this is daunting. Thanks again for sharing, and love how your cat made a surprise cameo!
Hi Roz! I’ve been subscribed to your channel quite awhile and never noticed this video until today! I have to salute you in your explanation of how you choose colors. It’s truly one of the tasks I struggle with when I want to design my crochet blankets, but you have opened my mind in your method to search for amazing colors with an object as simple as a color wheel. Thank you for sharing this truly valuable information!! Happy Crocheting 🧶🤗❤️
Colors, glorious colors!! This was lovely. I have so much fun choosing colors to crochet with. I can easily spend 2-4 hours in a yarn store, just having fun. I am allergic to animal fibers, but the hand dyed wool section is always so tempting due to the colorful hanks. I look, don't touch. I find color inspo from fields of wild flowers, God's wonderful sunsets, professional art, photograpy, and decorating shows too. Did I say I love color? haha Edit: Yes, more please on color. Loved the china pattern idea.
Wow, this is a great help!! Thank you so much..technical help is really appreciated!! Colors are really tricky at times, this is great help no matter what field your interested in as a crafter!! I've put off a color wheel and see now why its so helpful!! Bravo!
Thank you for the information. I struggle with color because I am colorblind. I'm always looking for tips and tricks about selecting colors for a project. Most of the time, I can't tell if the colors I've selected actually look good together and therefore I rely on a color wheel and my husband to help. I have saved your video to refer back to as I start 2 new projects.

When I was a little girl my grandmother and i were looking at crochet pattern books. We found a coverlet that each block was a hexagon, with a central flower and each petal done as a cluster stitch.
I was in love, and I told gramma that it was SO PRETTY! (Child code for "GIMMEE" but without the spanking)
Gramma asked what color would I choose?
YELLOW! And white for the background.
A few months later, there it was. SO PRETTY! I LOVE YOU GRAMMA ( Child code for "Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You)
Later, Gramma told me she thought the bright yellow I wanted would be too garish, so she bought a very pretty, delicately pale yellow instead.
