Your tanks are some of my favorites I've seen on any "fishtuber" channel. They are so natural looking. If I were a fish I would want to live in your fish room! 🐟
The Oscar with plants is amazing. I'm determined to continue appreciating cichlids without giving up my plants ever again, as I did for 6ish years keeping JDs. I'm pretty confident in saying it's doable with the right implementation and plant selection
@@FlowstateAquatics thank you, I’m not out of the woods yet with it being successful long term but doing research is huge and knowing that just because it’s said something isn’t possible doesn’t mean doesn’t mean it isn’t.
Great video I had to go back on my channel and see when i setup my first dirted tank I was surprise to see its only 6 months old but what a difference 6 months has been. Another thing you mentioned was the mulm well to be 100% honest I don't vacuum any of my planted tanks ever I just let it be. my first plant tanks is now pushing that 5 year mark and its just using a planted substrate and the plants are still growing like crazy. some day i want to have all dirted tanks with exception to my big cichlid tanks they would destroy the substrate. they clear the sand to bottom glass even with the egg crate i have on the bottom of the tank they manage to suck out the sand and remove it.
@@razinfishes1918 that’s awesome Scott and I look forward to the transition to the dirted tanks. I did the same about a year and a half ago. I decided to just go for it 😁

This is great, so many videos about setting up tanks but few about older tanks. I have a 29 gallon which has been up for 6 years. I have spent the past few months destroying a massive green hair and black beard algae mess which I allowed to happen through neglect. 😢 Now I’ve replanted and things are settling down. Also my fish mostly died from old age, I have a female albino bristlenose pleco, one very old cherry barb, and one faithful Nerite snail 🐌 So I need to add livestock to balance things. Should I try to add a sand cap?
@@KristiBodin you definitely could add some sand on top of the gravel. @@kinglyzard I have them in all my dirted aquariums. They are awesome for churning the sand and they do not expose the dirt to the water column. There only downfall is they breed quite proficiently. Other than that I think they are beneficial

There's something our aquariums dont have that the ponds lakes and rivers have . When you go and walk around the shore of a lake what do you see? Hundreds thousand of gallons of water that are not accupied by fish, when algea takes over a lake , city officials dont blame it on the the sun , instead they investigate whats polluting the water , is it a invasive specie of fish? Is it run off from a local farm ect. When they find out whats causing it they dont say lets add more plants or dim the sunlight, instead they go to the source thats causing it and stop it , they dont put bandaids to fix problems. We on the other hand put bandaids and make things work , not saying i don't this myself, most natural bodies of water dont even have plants and the fish thrive in them, we can do the same with a aquarium if we just stop overstocking with fish, but I know tanks that look lonely dont look good so we overstock forgetting that we are only working with a few gallons of water that can easily become unbalanced or polluted. These are just things i think sbout
