That cylinder head was beautiful
Might as well get the rocker trunnion bearings done while you’re at it.
How much it cost to fix that problem?
But does this address the problem that causes the valves to drop in the first place? It's nice to have those things done to the head but do you still have a ticking time bomb that's waiting to go off?
That's a fair question...and the answer is even more unknown. Some say it does, others say it doesn't. Since I made this video, it seems that the questions continue, but the answers stay hidden.
@@InJasonsGarage Good luck with it; I hope you don't have to deal with a valve dropping into the cylinder. It seems to me that GM could have been more forthright about the problem and how to get it fixed.
You should post up your pricing in the description
All information is at their web site, frankensteined.net/. You can also give them a call. (817) 556-2434. Tell them you saw this video!
$1900.00 per head when you give them a core.
motocrossriders2002 that seems extremely expensive. Lingenfelter is considerably cheaper. Edit I just looked at their site it's 1900 / pair and they do the whole ball of Wax
Are you sure that is per head or per pair? I don't know of anyone who does single cylinder heads.
We have the F-Series on our website www.FrankensteinED.net now for Pre-Order
Know a guy who got a set of ls7 heads that were done by Frankenstein, they were junk. Let me say they were put on a street/strip car that had only 12000 miles on them. The guides were gone, I mean way out of spec. Just fyi guys.
Did you mean 1,200 miles by any chance?
Jason D,long time!!
Surely you have read the FB on the website you started?lol
Frankenstein heads have been proven to lose power over stock heads!
Exhaust valves are the problem, they are sodium filled for cooling, however the exhaust valves are hollow stems and apparently will not take the side load. Replace exhaust factory exhaust valves with good solid stem exhaust valves.
zoo
Hi, hey can y’all help me out on the LS7 heads:
Do you need to put lash caps on all the rockers? Or just on exhaust valve or the intake valve? Please help on this build
lash caps need to go on the intake valves only since they are titanium
How much?
Same problem with 5.3 silverados? Ive seen several with engine knocking
Not that I have heard, but I don't follow Silverado 5.3 news usually. The LS7 problem won't be much of an engine knock...it will be a mechanical catastrophe, often with no solid indication it is going to happen.
Jason's Garage ok. I have a C5 with an LS1...hope its not an issue
Not likely. This issue is thought to be mostly specific to the LS7, but some have said the LS9 also has some similar issues, but pretty rare by comparison.
Check your knock sensors... infamous for the harness to rot/corrode away causing issues, but at that point you might as well swap the sensors too
What does it cost?
It varies quite a bit depending on the options you choose. Their web site is frankensteined.net, give them a call.
Best solution is TSP Texas Speed & Performance guys
Yup, they do good work as well.
The price of the car should drop huge if this is such a issue.....i still trading my car in for one....
What are the flow numbers??
frankensteined.net/shop/gm-ls7-stage-1-fed-heads/
Intake Peak Flow: 410
Exhaust Peak Flow: 260
Saw a set of these with 1200 miles, racing miles. Guides were worn slam out.
@Mark Hacker: Frankenstein heads or stock heads? And what does "slam out" mean? Never heard the term. Was it a typo?
The Frankenstein heads. Are there flow numbers?
@MrSmokin04 - See my comment above from a month ago!
What's the cost ??
Depends on the options. Check their web site for the latest or give them a call.
how much?????????????
Call Frankenstein and ask them, they have different prices for different features.
Kevin James?
Me?
Why hasn't Chevy done a recall and fixed this issue? Makes no sense to me.
Ever seen the movie Fight Club by any chance?
In Holland its 6000€ .. Guys dont buy z06
reworking the guides isnt going to fix the problem. Its the valvetrain thats flawed by its design.
In what way?
the offset rocker is the problem. It causes side load and wears out the guide
While I tend to agree there's still some underlying problem with these heads, it's still odd some can run for 150k or more without an issue and others are dropping a valve with less than 10k on them. One thing is for sure, I'm not certain "fixing" the valve guilds truly solves the problem. A big nut to swallow it you have to keep pulling the heads every 25k!
yea for sure. i've heard rumors about metallurgy causing lifter bleed down and all sorts of stuff. I hate to say it, but i think the solution is to find a set of ls3 based heads that are opened up as much as possible for the cubic inches of the 427.
I agree, swapping to LS3 heads and intake would take care of the problem, but it's also a significant step backwards regarding power loss. The difference between ported LS3 heads and ported LS7 heads has to be 30 hp, probably a lot more! Part of me wants to just say F-it and run the factory heads until it nukes, then pull the engine and throw a crate LS3 in there with a SC... It would probably make a lot more power and actually be reliable! Urrrgggg, this problem really sours an otherwise awesome car!
