Never been to Sturgis, planning on going this year (can't wait!). Been to Bike week and Biketoberfest. Love both and going to Daytona in March from New Orleans area. Didn't see any problems with vibe/attitudes in Dayton. But, Thunder Beach Bike Week in Panama City was less friendly. Ride to St. Augustine is fun....but Flat and straight. I'm 75 and ride Road Glide - 2 up. Based on your video....can wait till August!

Two entirely different experiences. Sturgis is more about the best riding roads in the world. It is also a place where old guys like me can take an early morning ride in the black hills and barely see a bike. Daytona is party city 24 hours a day. I can do a couple days in Daytona. I can spent two weeks in the Black Hills and not get enough.

I’ve had friends who have been to bike week, and said the exact same things that you said. I guess that’s why I’ve never been excited about going to Daytona, But I haven’t missed a Sturgis since 1997.

I've never been to Daytona. But I've been to Sturgis 14 times. For me it's only about 500 miles. I don't go for the huge campgrounds and concerts. I go for the riding in the hills and canyons, for the stops in the small towns and out of way places, and the people you meet. Also, I agree with you on the Exit 55 RC Harley Davidson "mall". Great place to look over products and buy as well. Picked up a lot of good stuff for different bikes over the years. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for your positive portrayal of SD. I moved out here from the east in 2012. For motorcyclists this state is great. We have good roads and a variety of scenery, which makes getting through January and February bearable. I have no desire to go anywhere else. Hopefully we will see each other next year in Sturgis.

I think you pretty much nailed it on the head. We've been doing Daytona (both events) for years, and truth be told, it's become more of a reunion for all the friends we've met over the years. We stay at Cackleberry back in "Paco's Corner" and for the last few years, we don't even leave camp! except to go see TMI! Every point you've made here is valid! We'll still continue to go to Daytona, but more to just see that group of friends than for the event itself. Looking forward to doing Sturgis moving forward! Hope to run into you sometime!

I like to go to Daytona because it’s close by and I can be there in an hour or so, But I don’t know that I would recommend people traveling from all over to go to it like Sturgis. You’re right about there not being much riding, it’s really more like a big party that you ride your bike to.

  • @cruisinwithbuddy

The difference between Daytona and Sturgis is that Sturgis is about riding and Daytona is about partying and bar hopping. Everyone goes to Sturgis to ride and there are beautiful rides out there. Daytona Bike Week is the first time the northerners can get their bikes out to ride after winter, they want to party and show off their bikes with 5000 miles on them. Biketoberfest is about the last chance that the northerners get to ride before putting up the bike before the snow hits, they want one last party. I live 20 miles from Destination Daytona, I see it all of the time. I agree with all of your reasons in the video.

Been to both and 100% agree with your take. That said - Bike Week in Daytona in March is always appreciated because it's a warmer destination for those yet to come out of their winters back at their home areas, at least that was the case for me before moving to NC. Still fun, just not Sturgis by any measurement. Peace!

I’ve been to Sturgis with my brothers from Camp Lejeune before and we had a BLAST!! I’ve seen the pictures and videos from Daytona and think from Michigan it ain’t worth it to go. For me the transportation cost in both gas and time just doesn’t justify it. My brothers summed it up by saying it’s standing on a street corner drinking beer and watching people. Not really a biker thing to me.
Number #1 has to be the riding in Sturgis. It is incredible!!

Sorry I’m getting to this video 6 months to late. But as a person from Cape Cod MA this video was a HUGE HELP! A lot of guys I work with always talk about Daytona and after seeing footage from a lot of people first hand it doesn’t seem like my cup of whiskey. I had a well known UA-camr come up last year for Laconia and I told them not to expect much can really do most of it in a day. I mean they have events other places like hill climbs and what not but the main event is not all the great. I can buzz up in about 2 1/2 hrs and go ride the mountains and explore the great areas around with our Thousands of bikes. I think instead of planning for Daytona im gonna try for Sturgis. Thanks Pro Monkey for this video!

Been to Daytona, both rallies, never been able to make Sturgis. Of the Daytona rally’s I prefer Biktoberfest, smaller crowds and as long as a hurricane doesn’t come through nice weather day and night. All of the Slingshots and and poser toys are annoying though.
MB rally is the same way now. Used to be fun in the 90’s and was spread out enough to make you go look for things. The ride from MB to Charleston and further south was relatively straight but no traffic. Like Daytona it’s very congested and less biker friendly these days.
If I can ever get someone to go with me I’ll do Sturgis, just not comfortable going by myself.

I'm from Alaska. I ride by myself every year. The first time was scary because of the unknown. Since it's a very enjoyable ride. It make you get in touch with your life. On the rode you meet people and it's fun talking at gas stations and joining them for some miles. You end up getting separated because of pee stops but you'll be ok on your own. Don't forget bikers stop and help each other out. You'll do just fine on your own. Stop and see me at the American Legion in Piedmont for breakfast or supper. Food is great and lots of it! Even cake and ice cream after supper. $8/$12 best place to eat in Sturgis.

Since this is Sturgis vs. Daytona, I choose Sturgis because to me, Sturgis is a "Spiritual" experience, whereas Daytona is a destination. I am not speaking about religion I am just talking about how I feel and what it means to me about Sturgis. Ride safe but ride hard! 🤙

Have been to Biketoberfest a few times. Stayed in Titusville in 2016 and rode up and back each night. Spent the days at Cocoa Beach (closest open beach due to Hurricane Matthew). The only good riding I found is when we rode up A1A to St. Augustine for the day. Not familiar with the loop. Jasmine Cain kicks ass. Missed her at both Myrtle Beach rallies this year. Best act that I’ve seen in Leesburg (2018) was Tom Keiffer (Cinderella). I need to make the trip to Sturgis finally next year.

I have to say you are dead on with this list, I have never been to sturgis (YET), but even though all of your points are accurate, I still enjoy Daytona, plus I only live an hour and a half away. Sturgis is certainly on my bucket list. Florida in general lacks quality rides, there are some decent places to ride in the center of the state, but I’m sure nothing in Florida doesn’t comes close to the rides in Sturgis.

Bike week, Biketoberfest, and Thunder beach, are rallies. You get the atmosphere of bikes but you also get the traffic, the scum that want to cause trouble, the spring breaker crowd who most dont even ride. Most cases you can do the whole “rally” in a day and you’ve seen it all.
Sturgis is the riding destination that all “rallies” strive to be in my opinion. So many riding destinations to choose from and probably wont see everything in a weeks time versus the “rallies”.

All the Rallies are Different, Daytona is more a See and be Seen Rally, and i agree far too many NON-BIKERS, , and it's all packed into a small area, The Black Hills Rally is spread out all over western South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming, i've been to and WORKED most of the big rallies, and yes Sturgis is the King, But Laconia was the 1st and it's still the last of the Real Biker Rallies, the White Mountains of New Hampshire have riding 2nd to None, plus we have the Lakes and the Seacoast, and there are almost NO places that restrict colors though NH is 81 Country and there are 81 tents all over the place, Now the Main part of the Rally is at and around Weirs Beach, but if you don't get out and travel you miss some of the best parts, the run to the clouds, climbing Mount Washington (not for the faint of heart) going over to the New Hampshire Speedway, the Hillclimbs at Gunstock Mountain, Antique motorcycle races and hill climb at tower hill and so much more, local and medium has been bands at Tower Hill Tavern or a few other of the owners 4 other stages, then we have a huge outdoor concert venue called meadowbook were major artists play and sometimes mega mega superstars play at the raceway, the draw back is it's new england, and most of the roads are 2 lanes and there can be traffic issues, but the main drag at the weirs is closed to cars, we have 6 harley dealers here and several after market shops many with venders and events, i don't know as Laconia is a true Rival to Sturgis, but it's a close 2nd with a for sure huge History that sturgis can only dream of, 2022 Laconia is 99 years old, and 2023 it's the 100th annual run.

    • @binarym
      @binarym 2 роки тому +1

Bruce I agree with you. Laconia is a great area for riding. I have had a place up there for over 10 years and I still haven't done or seen everything that the Laconia Bike Week has to offer. A lot of folks put Laconia Bike Week and other rallies down for all sorts of reasons. I say go, have fun, meet people, but most of all ride no matter where (or what rally) you go.

  • @mldiode

Apples n Oranges. Two Different experiences I think. As far as riding roads in The surrounding Daytona area. From Daytona head west. Great country roads by the south end of Ocala National forest. I’m a long time rider and I only go to Daytona events if I want to Demo bikes. All my bikes are air cooled and sitting in traffic sucks for me. Different strokes, different folks…
Now here’s my idea of a great east coast bike destination/rally event. Maggie Valley, N.C. Maggie Valley has everything in place for a great rally. And there’s,”Wheels through time” a great motorcycle history museum. There’s the blue ridge parkway, the Tail of the Dragon, and the Cherolla parkway. Also are is the Harriahs casino in Cherokee. Over the smoky mountain and your in Pigeon Forge where’s there’s Dollywood and all kinds of attractions.

I have been to Daytona many times because it's only three hours away and I have a timeshare at Oceanwalk. Haven't been to Sturgis...yet. That's on my bucket list. Daytona has some good riding if you know where to go. We always take the ride up A!A to St Augustine, Ride the loop, ride through Ocala National forest and swim at one of the many springs. Ride to New Smyrna. It used to be a LOT better when the had more vendors at the Speedway and Rossmeyer's.

Been to Bike week twice, Sturgis 3 times and planning on Sturgis in 22.

I think it depends on what you want out of your rally experience. I’ve been to Sturgis twice, Bike Week once, and Biketoberfest once. If you want to ride then Sturgis blows Daytona away. If you want tourist stuff then Daytona is better. Biketoberfest is more my speed than Bike Week. More of a cruiser crowd. Bike Week has a much bigger mix of various styles of bikes. Crotch Rockets,Slingshots, and so on.
As far as the colors thing goes, the one club down there seems to make things difficult and are very prominently seen. In Sturgis, the club there seems to be more subtle about being seen, are more open to the public interaction, and friendly. Just my experience.
I would say ditch both for a year and hit Eureka Springs, Arkansas for Spring Fling or Bikes, Blues, & BBQ. Like Biketoberfest but has awesome riding.

Living in Florida and Daytona not far away, that being said, I have found not a lot to do at Daytona. Just a few rides and not much else. It's a really busy time at Daytona, traffic is horrendous, I agree. Having never made the trip to Sturgis, I am planning next year....Hoping nothing F's that up. However, I did see the Outlaws in force at Daytona this year. It raised some eyebrows, and that was sad. Respect clubs and gen they will respect you back. Have a buddy who comes down most years from up north and Cackleberries really pissed him last year. Not a fan of that place.

At age 54 next year, God Willing, I will be riding on my '05 RK out to Sturgis and back from Ohio for the first time in my life with several good friends. The trip of a lifetime. I'm counting the days.....
I hope we still have an open country with unrestricted travel and our constitutionally protected freedoms next summer. Saying that kind of thing a couple years ago would have been patently ridiculous.......

Never been to Sturgis, can't wait to go. Went to Daytona several years ago... It's not a biker friendly rally to me. The city doesn't feel biker friendly to me. Hate to say I won't go back... but I won't.

I'm with you 100%. I live in Florida and don't think I will ever move to another state but yeah; it sucks when it comes to motorcycle rides. All roads are straight and flat landscape. Very boring when it comes to riding your bike.

If you get the chance come to Muskegon rebel road in mid July. It's for the weekend. Lots of bikes nice rides lots of events. It's slot smaller than stugus but think you'd have fun come up for a week do some rides around the lake Michigan coast and come to the rally.

Never been to Daytona and probably never will get their! I love going to Sturgis. I have so much fun at Sturgis. I've meet people and now have friends from all over the world! The Black Hills are just gorgeous and probably never be another place on earth that is so beautiful. Ok my opinion only! I enjoy the weather, people, food and the riding! Every day is a new experience at Sturgis. Everyone gets along. Only problem is you can't were your cut without problems in some bars. Mr P.M. when you getting the shirts in? Might need to get one!

Never been to Sturgis. It's on the list, just hard to find the time and money for cross country riding. I have been to Daytona and I must say it's the best I've seen. Must be the nostalgia maybe? And I'm really just a beach bum that likes to ride anyways maybe. You do you man, I'll take a ride to the beach until I can get to Sturgis and know for sure which I like better.

As some that has lived less than a 2 hour ride from Daytona for 20+ years... I've only gone to Biketoberfest once. I decided the hype was... just hype. Now I don't consider myself a "biker" even though I currently only own bikes... 2 of em. And don't really want a cage.... so I've never really considered Sturgis, but I've been talking and thinking, I might go just for the riding.

Daytona isn’t very good for rides, it’s more of going from bar or venue to venue. Go see some nice flat-track racing or road racing at the speedway. I love going to Daytona because it’s the first rally of the year and I’m ready for a ride out of town. The Ironhorse has free beer everyday for happy hour. 🍺😎

I cannot wait to go to Sturgis for the 85th anniversary, I love to ride just sit and party all the time but yes I do like to party and watch Concerts. I hated Daytona bike week other than that I was there watching Supercross races with my buddy because it was nothing to go ride around in, but I do love Leesburg that place is fun .
I live out west here in a Tahoe Reno area and we have a Lotta riding when street vibes is going on , We can do 200 miles around the Lake Tahoe rim and 100 more miles around the surrounding areas with twist and turns and straight roads and two Harley Davidson dealerships that are doing something with th shows and concerts and then downtown Reno has vendors and concerts. Plus the world famous Virginia City where everybody gets to have a little fun on Saturday or even the women do to it is great. If you ever out here in September and wanna go to street vibrations give us a call my man because you and your wife will have a great time something different but comparable to Sturgis but by far nothing will ever beat Sturgis. Thanks for all the great laughs and comedy you make work more enjoyable watching you !

Living near Daytona I can tell you it’s nothing more than a drink fest with a massive bike show going on. I’ll go there for an afternoon or meet with some of our vendor partners but honestly I can’t imagine anyone taking an entire week of precious PTO to come here when the Black Hills offers so much more. No thanks.

So, Biketoberfest is just a end of season rally and It’s just ok. Bike Week, on the other hand, is Awesome because the rest of the country is buried in snow and cold weather. Sturgis is awesome, but the main reason to go to Daytona Bike Week is the WEATHER! Oh and don’t forget the rest of Florida is pretty dang fun to ride. I usually go to Key West during Bike Week.....it’s beautiful to ride the overseas highway!
