Thank you all for the incredible information about this band, their diversity in style, and of course, Floor!! We had NO IDEA they've been around for as long as they have been and we're excited to break out of our bubble to react to more of their music!! From my experience with Floor Jansen with Nightwish specifically, she doesn't do a lot of growl/distortion singing only because the original singer for the band Tarja sang mostly in that operatic voice for all the "OG" songs. BUT Floor's first band After Forever and then her second project band - before Nightwish - ReVamp she does more heavier singing with going back n forth between growls and distortion.
But, if you want to actually see another side of Floor, then checking out her solo projects are there for the taking. She is so versatile - a master of her instrument. I can't imagine anyone better to use as an example of perfect singing. Thank goodness she's not a one trick pony. I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here. I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects, which, after seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers solidified my fandom of Floor and she introduced me to Nightwish. So, to promote Floor I'm going to take the liberty of posting a selected playlist of live performances that I consider the most enjoyable for me from her catalog of solo projects. 2019 - Beste' Zangers Solo cover of "Shallow" (Lady Gaga) - ua-cam.com/video/M68pe4a_9zk/v-deo.html Duet cover of "Phantom of the Opera" w/ Henk Poort - ua-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/v-deo.html Classical, cover of "Vilja Lied" in German - ua-cam.com/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/v-deo.htmlsi=HUiy9AYavOrwSANH 2021 - solo Amsterdam Concert **You will find these are from her channel and the entire concert is there, professionally taped provided by her fans through crowdsourcing** "Storm in a Glass" - ua-cam.com/video/7ax5nSPB9t8/v-deo.html "Slow, Love, Slow" - ua-cam.com/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/v-deo.html "Nemo" - ua-cam.com/video/Uebh4TuP_Xg/v-deo.html 2022 - Singles from her 2023 released solo album. Hello Richard & Johnny [ Throga - Vocal Gym ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘
Obviously Evanescence is the only reference point for someone from the U.S. However, the timeline happens to be that Nightwish published album "Angels Fall First" in September 1997 and Evanescence their debut EP in 1998.
Thank you! It seems we're slower than most when it comes to music discovery outside of our little bubble, which is why this channel and our subscribers have been such an amazing experience for us!
The greatest thing is that this song was the 13th song they played. They had been playing for over an hour, and still managed to put down musical perfection.
@@monicacarolina6480 if you take in consideration all she can do with her voice, i think shes the greatest female singer of all time, i mean Celine, Barbara or Witney Houston could not do what she does, especialy with growls
If you like Floor then also watch all her performances of "Beste Zangers" so you can see how versatile she is. The most epic performance from that show is the song Phantom of the Opera which has now 25 million views ua-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/v-deo.html
To me it is kind of weird that it has become so popular. That is be the last song I'd recommend from that show. There are better songs for operatic skills (e.g. Vilja Lied from the same show). Of course these are personal preferences, but I just don't like Phantom of the Opera..or the famous parts of it. Great show though to show Floor's versatility. I have tried to find a version I like and there is one version I like more than others with two opera singers, but listened to that once and that is all. Like I wrote, personal preferences.
@@kimmomatikainen1843 Agreed! Also: to whomever recommends Beste Zangers with Floor, please direct reactors to the English subbed "intro/outro" versions. Way more fun and context. Best to start (indeed kimmo) with her first performance on that show, so here goes: "Floor Jansen - Vilja Lied (2019) + intro and outro (With eng subtitles)". Enjoy!
Don't expect every Nightwish song to be like this one. Each song they perform is different to all their others. I started listening to 'rock' music in 1956 and this is the best band I've ever heard.
Dang! I was born in 56! I thought I was the old guy following NW! I started seriously listening to Rock about 79, with bands like Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly. Then Yes showed up with Roundabout and I e been a Prog Fan since. Especially Symphonic Prog. I always loved it when a band would get Heavey in their Prog, like Tull, KC, and Kansas. Then about 2000 my boys turned me onto Dream Theater and it's been Prog Metal since. I found NW in my expanding of Prog Metal hunt! Glad to meet you! Do you live in the USA?
For us Europeans it is funny to hear Americans say that Evanescence set a standard for their music and others copied it. This song is 25 year old and sung by 3 different singers. This style is dominated by Dutch bands and singers (Floor is also Dutch, not Finnish) and Finland is an awesome Metal country. This genre is at least 30 years old. You will love Epica (Dutch band with Floor’s female friend and fellow classical student) Sancta Terra features both Floor and Simone. Prog Rick and symphonic metal are founded in Northern European countries. Floor is THE master in coloring her voice and goes from belting, to headvoice to chestvoucevto full blown opera into deep growling. This is recorded in an German metal festival, where all metalheads from Europe meet each year. 100k people in the crowd. Nigtwish does not stick to 1 sound, all their music pieces are different and no topic is taboo. They are a band for almost 30 years and Thuomas is the mastermind behind the composing. All classical instruments are played by one of the best orchestra’s in London. Nice to see Americans come out of their bubble❤
@@throga If you want to encounter her versatility look at several performances in "de beste zangers" from Schubert to Frozen....you'll be stunned. And to see maybe the godfather of symphonic metal, where Floor regularly is a guest performer check out Ayreon....you'll be stunned...
Floor Jansen, the 6 foot Valkyrie from the Netherlands, singing in a Finnish band at a German concert. You guys had your first FLOORgasm and got FLOORED!
It's frustrating that us in North America really only had Evanescence as a reference point, when Europe has been eating this stuff up for years prior to that. Even Nightwish isn't the first symphonic metal band, but is one of the first to be bestowed the title. I was one of the fortunate ones to stumble on them on UA-cam waaaay back in its infancy, around 2008, but dismissed them because their OG singer was not my cup of tea. Oh, how much I missed. Days and days of lockdowns in the 2020s allowed me more time to take another look out there. Europe has known for a LONG time what good music is, and it's all out there for us to discover. Keep digging, gents. This is just a toe dip in an ocean :)
It is really frustrating. The arrogance of thinking it is always something American influencing others. Evanescence does not hold a candle to Nightwish and power metal/symphonic metal has being around long before Evanescence even though about being a band.
Welcome to the glorious world of Symphonic Metal. As a fellow American I get the reference to Evanescence but while they did popularize this style of music in the US it was already quite popular in Europe before them. Bands like Therion, Nightwish, and Epica that made this genre huge in Europe and everywhere else in the world. It is our US centric music industry and culture that has isolated us from a vast sea of great music that exists in the world. Checkout Yours is an Empty Hope live from Wembley to get a grittier Floor.
Another Forerunner of this is The Sisters of Mercy Temple of love with Ofra Haza... But the full orchestral power over driving rock is there in both the Sisters of Mercy and the Missions dark gothics.
As an American who is even from Evanescence's hometown, I honestly never liked them. They felt like a cheap imitation of something but I didn't know what. Once I discovered Nightwish, I knew. Probably unfair to Evanescence, as I associate them with a time period when American rock music dove straight into the toilet and has pretty much remained since.
She can sing the telephone book and make it sound epic. Literally. They made her sing the phone book in a tv show in the netherlands. And it sounded awesome.
And, this song is just the tip of the iceberg. Nightwish is a group of extremely talented musicians who all play for the song. There are no egos here. The result is a total that is much greater than the sum of its parts. You haven't even heard the bassist, Marko sing yet. He also has a great, and totally different voice and style. He can use a great deal of vocal fry, and also sing in a pure clean tenor. Try Romanticide from this same concert next. That song gives every member of the band a chance to shine, plus you will hear both Floor and Marko sing, and especially, harmonize beautifully.
Welcome to the magical world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. This is one of the most epic live performances EVER. Glad you liked, and greetings from Finland! ☃️👍
I saw Nightwish live in Birmingham, UK, in Nov 2022. They truly are epic, I've seen many many top bands, but Nightwish topped the lot. I have never been so mesmerised by a band as I was that night.
I was there too with my son. We trained down from Scotland to see them. Was epic. Followed them since 2004 and saw them in Glasgow with Anette too but Floor is so perfect for NW. I often wonder how Tuomas felt when he first heard her sing his music 😊
@@johngriffin7255 And what a night it was we were all floored once again. One of the best early Christmas presents my wife has ever got me in 30 yrs of marriage. And one of my first live gigs after covid. Also saw Skunk Anansie that same time period. Thank heaven for the return of live music.
In the metal history, there’s been plenty of clean female vocals over heavy music from the early 90s, starting with The Gathering. This was mostly happening in Europe. Symphonic metal, goth metal, melodic metal and other combinations are the genres where you can find Cristal clear female vocalists. The band Lacuna Coil has female and male vocalists long before Evanescence. Of course there’s more and more metal bands fronted by women nowadays, but Nightwish is one of the earliest bands with this configuration.
Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! This is called Symphonic Metal !!! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival. We hope, that there is more coming. NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan 🤘😎🤘.
And Ghost River although in Ghost River her growls are not as clearly noticed as in Yours Is An Empty Hope. She doesn't do what Jinjer's singer does and doesn't have that level of growls and I am happy about that. I don't like growls in music. I have listened to metal since early 1980's, but never been into death metal and other growly stuff. Good ol' metal grit is gritty enough for me.
If you really want to see her growl you should see Revamp's Misery's no Crime. On the album it's a guy (Mark Jansen), but live she did it herself: ua-cam.com/video/SNPesLFTnUg/v-deo.html
I'm glad you mentioned Disdain, because there's a live performance of that song (can't remember which one) that she does, and it was around the same era as this Wacken show. Anyway, her vocal gymnastics during that performance are insane. Easily one of the most impressive things I've heard her do.
45yo Norwegian NightwishArmy here. Been there from the start, my favorite band! Never get tired of watching reactions to this Masterpiece, they start so surprised, and by the final note they're fans for Life - AWESOME❤
Cannot get enough of the huge smiles right from the very beginning. Gentlemen - you have been Floored. Nightwish Army, Manitoba division reporting in. Welcome to a magnificent rabbit-hole!
I'd highly recommend Dead Boy's Poem live at Buenos Aires. Not only is it a great song and a fan favorite, Tuomas has stated it is his most personal song and how he would like to be remembered after he's gone. Floor shows pretty much her full range from deep to high, and from gentle to full on rock belt. It's truly an amazing composition with amazing vocals, and to watch them perform it live is even more amazing. NW is one of those bands that no only can recreate the magic live... they're actually better live!
You should know that this was their 12th or 13th song of the set - and it wasn't over :) (one of those zippos upheld at the end of the orchestral interval was mine)
The band is Finnish, Floor Jansen however is Dutch. As others mentioned, the Phantom of the Opera version she did is amazing. There is the "Beste Zangers" version she did with Henk Poort but there is also the Nightwish version (on the official Nightwish Channel) where Henk Poort is featuring :)
Floor is classically trained and graduated from the school of rock. She started her career fronting the metal band After Forever when she was just 16 years old. She then went on to form her own band, ReVamp, before replacing Nightwish's 2nd singer a few months before this concert. When she was called by the band to replace Anette in the middle of the tour she had only 48 hours to learn the set list before flying to the US to join them. On a more spiritual note, she is a transcendent goddess of the highest order 😁
What an enjoyable reaction guys. It's always fun to hear folks with musical knowledge share their insights. I've been around a long time, and heard many an artist and I say without hesitation that my greatest musical enjoyment has come from Nightwish. I hope you will continue down the rabbit hole. I will subscribe and be on board the Nightwish Train. All Aboard!!!!
Massive laugh out loud when the vocal coach says " this may be more up my alley than your's" to the song writer. Enter Tuomas... minds blown in both directions...
" "She's not afraid to get aggressive" almost made me spit out my coffee this here is super mild compared to what Floor can do.. She can go from super high opera (like from Shoemaker) to all out growl (like from Yours is an Empty Hope).. I just encourage you both to go down the Floor Jansen rabbit hole. She's not a one trick pony. So many different techniques and ranges etc.. I read somewhere her live consistent range is something like C3-F6, I highly recommend checking out Storytime, Romanticide (both from the same show Wacken 2013), Shoemaker (either studio official lyric video or live both are incredible) and The Poet and the Pendulum ( live )if you want to kinda get a good grasp of her vocals., and all live versions She also has done some songs on her own channel (covers) and the songs she did on the show Beste Zengers you watch all those you'll get a good grasp of why so many think she's one of the best if not the best female vocalists today.
What a great song and Floor's vocals are phenomenal. What did Tuomas...only took her 6 days (with a young baby) to lay down all her vocals? Such professionalism.
I feel like to really "get" that song you have to hear more of the songs that it references first, but maybe that's just me. You can certainly still enjoy it!
Very good ! Floor describes herself as a vocal nerd, she is amazingly good at conveying the intended emotion behind the written lyrics of the genius composer Tuomas Holopainen. Floor Jansen is also a completely nice person in every way. For your own interest Floor did her own "reaction", you might find interesting: ua-cam.com/video/QW_3F186_5Q/v-deo.html There are 17 key changes and it never resolves from Chord V to 1 that you are continually sub-consciously wanting until the very end. It starts 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8, then 4/4, 4/4, 3/4 (more accurately 6/8 waltz time), 4/4 then straight 4/4. The time signatures keep changing throughout the song.
This song doesn't required aggression but Floor can do it all,she screams, she growl, she singing with operatic voice, head voice, chest voice, she can do it all,our queen
Great reaction! A friend sent me Ghost Love Score a couple of months ago and I have been hooked on this band ever since. It even inspired me to pick up my bass again after several years of being out of music.
An audience for it? The man is writing the BEST symphonic music that anyone has written in a very long time, he voices it with metal instruments, writes vocals that are beyond anything anyone else is writing, finds an absolute MONSTER of a vocalist who SLAYS live and in studio… and you think maybe there might be an audience for this off beat, odd type of non-mainstream music? Dude. My friend. NO ONE on this planet makes music this good, and there is a market larger than you’ve ever thought about reaching that listen to Nightwish at every concert they play.
About the greatest two minutes in metal - the last two minutes of this song. And the final vocal note is the greatest note of all time. I tear up every single time I hear it.
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Nightwish. It is so deep in styles and moods and to have Floor be the interpreter of this composers emotions is astonishing. Honestly, once you went through 5 or 10 songs, you will understand that it is impossible to put this band in a genre. They are quite unique.
I’m sixty four, an American and have listened to Nightwish since I was in my 40’s. My son used to complain about my “weird music” and now he listens to it. BTW, Amy Lee was a Nightwish fan and it influenced her singing. When Nightwish was conceived, Tuomas asked his then-seventeen year old friend, Tarja Turunen to be the vocalist in his music vision, Nightwish. She told him she would consider it but her own focus was opera training. He responded that he would accept that and write and compose songs specifically for her. She accepted. When they began local band venues, other Finnish bands would laugh and say, “There is the opera band”. Nightwish rapidly soared in popularity to become Finland’s number one band. Defining themselves as “symphonic rock”, they really launched the genre onto the world scene. Your reaction kept me from going to bed tonight. You guys have great chemistry and are fun to watch. Always willing to listen to Nightwish and enjoy first-time reactions. There are so many songs and eras of Nightwish but Tarja and Marco’s version of Phantom of the Opera is a must. Great reactions to Angelina and Diana as well. So much incredible music out there that so many have never heard. Try Dimash Kudaibergen as well, perhaps start with S.O.S.
You’ve just scratched the surface Floor is amazing and Nightwish is a dynamic band I hope you do more Nightwish reactions the Nightwish Army will show up and guide you.
Welcome to Symphonic Metal, Nightwish are truly fantastic, I love this song so much, one of my favourites ever! Our Goddess Floor is amazing and I'm sure in the comments you'll find great song suggestions. Enjoy!
Ooohhh I cannot wait to see your reactions to this masterpiece!!! Richard, I was sure gjven your tastes in music, that you would have seen this before!
Your video has only been up for an hour and you can see the Nightwish army rushes in immediately, lol. I'm excited for you to discover the band - so many incredible songs with varied sounds, always epic and emotional. Gabriel in the comments has a really solid set of recommendations for exploring them further - if no one has mentioned yet, he's on a quest to spread information about the band, on behalf of a dedicated fan who passed away, Ann Waychoff. Live versions of songs tend to be better than studio, and videos from concerts will allow you to best see the full skills and performance strengths of all band members. I'd also recommend looking at lyrics before you listen to their songs, because their songwriter Tuomas (keyboardist) writes songs that can be very emotionally poignant and/or which tell stories. Your appreciation will be enhanced if you can feel the music with an understanding of what it's about. You're fortunate to have found them too at a time when they've just released a new album! Maybe a tour will bring them near you before long.
I’m so happy I grew up to be a Nightwish fan, my mom is from Finland and she loved Nightwish when I was a kid. Now I am 15 and I still love Nightwish as much as I did when I was younger
Wish I had a dollar for every time Floor gets compared to Amy Lee. It’s like comparing Ford to a Rolls Royce. They’ll both get you from a to b, but Floors Rolls Royce voice will do it in greater comfort and style…
This is a rude comment and does not put the fanbase in a good light. It is natural for people to make comparisons to things they know and they like. You are essentially insulting someone for their opinion. It is never necessary to put down an artist as a way to prop up another artist. Amy Lee sings quite well. You personally not liking it, does not mean it is bad. It just means that you didn't like it. Lastly, just because a singer has better range, or more tools in their toolkit, it does not mean that they will resonate with everyone the same way. Singers like Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen or even Janis Joplin, do not have traditional voices, but they were able to convey emotion and tell a story. Music is subjective. We like what we like. It would be a boring place if everyone liked the same things!
@@Erfedwe Boohoo "rude comment".. Geez snowflake, grow some thicker skin if this is what upsets you. Not your style, fair enough but it gets the message through loud & clear: Amy Lee is an accomplished vocalist. Floor Jansen is on a different level altogether as any vocal teacher would agree. We're not just talking opinion and personal taste here, were talking vocal skills.
Once again, the Valkyrie Goddess has claimed more mortal souls to empower the band that is Nightwish. Gentlemen, welcome to the Nightwish family, and may your stay be a rocking one :)
“Do they have other songs that…?” yes. The answer is yes. It doesn’t matter what the rest of that question is, the answer is the same. Nightwish in general and Floor in particular are spectacularly versatile and never settle on a specific style for long. They’ve mastered the art of experimenting with new and unique music while maintaining the qualities that are uniquely theirs and always evolving beyond what anybody could reasonable expect, much less imagine.
Welcome Throga, to the magical world of Nightwish. Symphonic metal. Our Valkyrie Floor Jansen 🇳🇱. Tuomas Holopainen, the Metal Mozart. Metal magic. If this amazed you, then there is almost 30 years of amazement to catch up with. Enjoy yourself. Greetings from the Netherlands 🤘🫡

Rock on! And if you want to hear Floor switch between growl an classic just listen to her in her former band Revamp singing Disdain live at Graspop.
Hello Throga - Vocal Gym guys. Huge Nightwish fan from Phoenix glad to welcome you to our beloved Nightwish, with one of the greatest female vocalists in the world, Floor Jansen. Thank you for this reaction. Loved it to one of their many legendary live performances. Nightwish is the rare band whose live performances are even better than their studio productions. Carol, my wife of 43 years and I got to see them live in San Francisco at the Warfield Theatre in 2022. The show was incredible. Hope to see more from you guys.
Floor is one of the most versatile singers on the planet. She can sing it all - pop, rock, folk, symphonic metal, growls, etc. And she can sing in at least a half dozen languages as well as speak them. In many ways, one you learn about her, she may remind you of this "other guy" named Dimash. It's one of my bucket list wishes to have Floor and Dimash collaborate on an album and live on stage. My only fear of the latter is that the stage might melt from the sheer magnificence of them singing together.
I think I was a 9 years old little kid from Finland when I fell in love with Nightwish. I had just began learning English at school so I understood a word or two. That was over 20 years ago. Lots have changed, I grew up and so one but they till one of my favorite bands. I am glad you had an opportunity to hear their music as well :)
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.
Hello Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Oh, my friends you are going to go down the hole with Nightwish, there is so much more for you to listen to highlighting Floor's voice and the incredible musicians that play in the band.
Thank you all for the incredible information about this band, their diversity in style, and of course, Floor!! We had NO IDEA they've been around for as long as they have been and we're excited to break out of our bubble to react to more of their music!!
PS: If you enjoy this video, please hit LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to help it get seen by others (UA-cam algorithm).

Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "

Obviously Evanescence is the only reference point for someone from the U.S. However, the timeline happens to be that Nightwish published album "Angels Fall First" in September 1997 and Evanescence their debut EP in 1998.
So true.
Floor was inspired by Anneke van Giersbergen, the first metal singer with The Gathering around 1986/1987.
Thank you! It seems we're slower than most when it comes to music discovery outside of our little bubble, which is why this channel and our subscribers have been such an amazing experience for us!
Nightwish dropped their 5th album soon after Evanenscence released their first.
Amy Lee is such an American reply... time to look again outside the local pub stage, lol.

Yeah. Her diabolical growls 😂
She can do EVERYTHING, best singer from this time
The greatest thing is that this song was the 13th song they played. They had been playing for over an hour, and still managed to put down musical perfection.
🔥
@@monicacarolina6480 if you take in consideration all she can do with her voice, i think shes the greatest female singer of all time, i mean Celine, Barbara or Witney Houston could not do what she does, especialy with growls
@@monicacarolina6480 Yup, even singing the phone book.
If you like Floor then also watch all her performances of "Beste Zangers" so you can see how versatile she is. The most epic performance from that show is the song Phantom of the Opera which has now 25 million views ua-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/v-deo.html
And for her early days, you have to listen to After Forever. Possible "reaction" one would be Dreamflight Live at ProgPower 2007.
Yes to Phantom. Also, her cover of Gaga's Shallow from the same show is a much watch!
Enjoy!
@@hugoagogo Her cover of Shallow is the best, I love it so much. IMO it is better than the original. I hope they watch it!

We are ready to break out of that bubble!! Thank you for the info.
@@throga If you want to encounter her versatility look at several performances in "de beste zangers" from Schubert to Frozen....you'll be stunned.
And to see maybe the godfather of symphonic metal, where Floor regularly is a guest performer check out Ayreon....you'll be stunned...
I like Tarja’s rendition of this song ❤
Glad to be aboard!
Nightwish are the bomb , but we can't forget Therion , they also pioneered the symphonic metal scene and worth a look at 👍
Floor Jansen, the 6 foot Valkyrie from the Netherlands, singing in a Finnish band at a German concert.
We're in for the ride!!!
It is really frustrating. The arrogance of thinking it is always something American influencing others. Evanescence does not hold a candle to Nightwish and power metal/symphonic metal has being around long before Evanescence even though about being a band.
@@throgahehe, there is a Song about it ..Last Ride of the Day.
Try to find Therion and their album from 1995 on . This Is the First band playing Symphonic Metal ever.
Nightwish isn't just a band
Nightwish is a lifestyle
This is going to be fun. Nightwish and Floor Jansen is masterclass and beyond.
Lovely mention to Therion! ♥
She can sing the telephone book and make it sound epic. Literally. They made her sing the phone book in a tv show in the netherlands. And it sounded awesome.
Radio show but close enough
This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , the stamina is amazing and the drummer , this whole concert is worth listening to in one go or in parts
And he makes a hell of a good Phantom.
Welcome to the magical world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. This is one of the most epic live performances EVER. Glad you liked, and greetings from Finland! ☃️👍
Totally agree
I saw Nightwish live in Birmingham, UK, in Nov 2022. They truly are epic, I've seen many many top bands, but Nightwish topped the lot. I have never been so mesmerised by a band as I was that night.
I was there too with my son. We trained down from Scotland to see them. Was epic. Followed them since 2004 and saw them in Glasgow with Anette too but Floor is so perfect for NW. I often wonder how Tuomas felt when he first heard her sing his music 😊

Thank heaven for the return of live music.
You have now heard The Note!
The smile on her face at the end is the one you only get when you know you’ve absolutely nailed it.
"The Gathering" is a must to react, because Floor decided to do metal after listening Anneka on "The Gathering"
Within Temptation also was before Evanescence

And the master of this magic is:
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics.

Floor uses a full metal growl on Nightwish's Yours Is An Empty Hope, and on Revamp's Disdain, and their Wild Card in the breakdown.

And heavily influenced by The Gathering (early 90's) with Anneke van Giersbergen on vocals (try ua-cam.com/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/v-deo.html (1996))
First she finished the rock academy, but did not learn a lot so after that she went to study operatic classical singing.

"She's not afraid to get aggressive" almost made me spit out my coffee this here is super mild compared to what Floor can do..
An Ocean of Strange Islands... your next destination. Just a MUST.

It starts 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8, then 4/4, 4/4, 3/4 (more accurately 6/8 waltz time), 4/4 then straight 4/4. The time signatures keep changing throughout the song.
Every time I hear this song, I don't have much, but I feel my life is complete.😍
Go for Ever Dream next. Gives you some idea of the range of music Nightwish can do. Also the bass player Marko has a fantastic voice!
This song doesn't required aggression but Floor can do it all,she screams, she growl, she singing with operatic voice, head voice, chest voice, she can do it all,our queen
If you want something harder try "Romanticide" from the same concert. You will love it
I second this recommendation.
a crowd of 80,000 and congratulations - you had your first "floorgasm" :D
For something you both probably like, "Storytime" from the same perfomance.
Great reaction! A friend sent me Ghost Love Score a couple of months ago and I have been hooked on this band ever since. It even inspired me to pick up my bass again after several years of being out of music.
And Marko is inspiring me to so the same! ❤
I need to!
Two years ago I had not heard of Nightwish or Floor then I watched and heard this.... Phenomenal band 🙏😊👍❤️
If it can be imagined, Nightwish can play it and Floor can sing it.
That is pretty accurate 👍🤘
An audience for it? The man is writing the BEST symphonic music that anyone has written in a very long time, he voices it with metal instruments, writes vocals that are beyond anything anyone else is writing, finds an absolute MONSTER of a vocalist who SLAYS live and in studio… and you think maybe there might be an audience for this off beat, odd type of non-mainstream music?
Dude. My friend. NO ONE on this planet makes music this good, and there is a market larger than you’ve ever thought about reaching that listen to Nightwish at every concert they play.
Dutch army here. More more more. Please follow grabriels list
Nightwish army reporting! If you want to check what Floor can do, which is much more, please follow General Gabriel Bardac's advice. Nice reaction!
You guys reacting to this today, became my happy place for 20+ minutes 😁
Floor growls on "Yours Is An Empty Hope" Wembley 2015 concert - she's incredible
Oooooh 😍...I can't wait..I love nightwish..and floor.she's Amazing..🫶🫶
About the greatest two minutes in metal - the last two minutes of this song. And the final vocal note is the greatest note of all time. I tear up every single time I hear it.
Now there is no turning back, welcome to the rabbit hole named Nightwish with Floor Jansen.
This is like the 156th time I watch a Ghost Love Score reaction, it just never gets old
Yes, escapism at its best! Great reaction, hope to see more Nightwish from you guys! 🤘🔥
Finalmente! Estava ansiosa por essa "reação" 😍 (abraços do Brasil!)
Every time I hear a Nightwish song I close my eyes and its like I'm in a movie
Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish!
The look on your face as she hit those last notes was priceless.
Amy who??? Try Revamp(Floor's second band) - "Disdain" if you want to hear her growling. Or "Yours is an Empty Hope" at Wemnley 2015 with Nightwish
Greetings from Finland👋👋🇫🇮, thank you!
So true, but it is nice to see Americans coming out of their bubble. Obviously they don’t have a clue about the music scene in Europe.
@@Erfedwe 😴🥱
I also loathe that comparison, Evanescence and Amy are woefully outmatched. I wish people would stop.
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done and welcome to the Nightwish Family
Once again, the Valkyrie Goddess has claimed more mortal souls to empower the band that is Nightwish. Gentlemen, welcome to the Nightwish family, and may your stay be a rocking one :)
Stick to Nightwish and it may become your best friend. 🤘

Nice to meet you guys. NW army general Gabriel did already react. This is one of their signature songs but there is a lot to dig in friends. HAve fun enjoying the magical world of symphonic metal. Rock on! And if you want to hear Floor switch between growl an classic just listen to her in her former band Revamp singing Disdain live at Graspop.
Floor is pure magic, easy the best female Rock singer on the planet.
Finally, you will be floorgasmed!!
hahahaha
NWArmy here, welcome and enjoy your ride into this amazing band 🎉!!!! Greetings from Greece ❤️💯🤘
See here guys Floor Janssen one of the best LIVE voices today . 🤟🤟🤟
Это было прекрасно!!!! Она просто Королева вампиров!!!
You can't go wrong with Nightwish, and Floor is wonderful vocalist! All the way from "O mio babbino caro" to "Yours is an empty hope".
There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band.
Yours is an empty hope is the most gritty vocal piece. I’ve never been into metal music before Nightwish, now I’m hooked!
Hello
Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
welcome my friends ❤
Oh, my friends you are going to go down the hole with Nightwish, there is so much more for you to listen to highlighting Floor's voice and the incredible musicians that play in the band.
I just love that with her last belt, despite the wall of sound from the band, you can hear the crowd roar for that! Goosebumps everytime.
Ooooh! You're reacting to Nightwish! I am so excited. Maybe Within Temptation next?
Now YOU are one of us!
Welcome to the Nightwish army!
Great reaction
