The green house looks wonderful. Green stalk looks great. I too use my dehydrator for yogurt and I pasteurize my store bought milk to ensure no other bacteria are present. However, I incubate my yogurt for 36 hours - After learning about LB reuteri bacteria and Dr. William Davis findings that yogurt and LB reuteri are not cultured long enough to have a beneficial concentration of the bacteria I did some research into this and found that the bacteria in yogurt benefit from the longer culture times. You can go 30 hours, but there is a significant spike in bacteria if left go the additional 6 hours. So to see if I noticed a difference, I incubated 3 containers - one for 12 hours, one for 24 hours and one for 36 hours. The 12 hour yogurt was as it always has been, mildly sour and acceptably thick. But here is where it got interesting - for the 24 hours jar, the sourness increase was barely detectable but the texture was noticeably smoother and thicker. And at 36 hours, the texture was very smooth and noticeably thicker, almost silky, with only the slightest increase in sourness. With this difference and the knowledge that bacteria have benefitted from longer incubation, I now incubate for 36 hours. I also feel that it keeps longer than the yogurt incubated for shorter times. Thought I would share. Great video. Sorry you got hail - we have had rain after rain after rain - garden is not in totally yet.

Great information! I’m not really interested in making yogurt, as I don’t eat it, but I found this very interesting none the less!

I don’t make my own yogurt but I love to eat it even if it is store bought. But I know they don’t have the health benefits for making the home made kind. I was reading the comment about the person incubating theirs for 36 hours to get all the health benefits of the yogurt. Hopefully your garden didn’t take too much damage from the hail storm. We have the most wet spring that I can remember in years and terrible storms this year. I love how you take such great care in how you plant in your high tunnel to get the most food out of it.

You need to pay attention to the holes in the grey tray between the layers, make sure the holes in it line up with the pockets, so that everything gets watered well from the top.

Love a planting day! Just an fyi, with your planter it’s Uber important that it’s totally level, otherwise it won’t water properly. That is in the instructions that none of us pay attention to of course as we just put the planters wherever they look good but part of the invention of the watering system was the level unfortunately. (Ask me how I know, haha!). Thanks for another fun day with you my friend!

As a CUSO volunteer overseas I made yoghurt with powdered milk and store bought yoghurt for a starter. My frig was propane so I would set the container on top / over the edge of the back so the rising heat from the frig would warm the yoghurt. Worked like a charm. Want thicker yoghurt? Add more powdered milk.

Hello. Make sure you pull the planter away from the wall. Once those melons start growing you could stake them up but your going to want enough clearance around the planter so it doesn't hit anything. I have a small container tomato planted in mine and I used 2 3ft bamboo sticks pushed in to either side of the pocket with string tied between them and the tomatoes lays on it so it does cascade down the planter. So it needs about a foot clearance from my other planters.

Just so you know, in case you do not, 😊 Chelsea, you can also get the dried yougurt culture as a freeze dried powder in some pharmacies and health food stores and sometimes this is refridgerated. You can also get it online. I used it with great success for years on the east coast (St. John's Newfoundland) back in the 1970s when no one ate yogurt plain or otherwise, except me and a Norwaegian family iI knew who just randomly move there to work at the university, so I had to make my own. My grandmother always had a cow or two. Another wonderful video. All the best from Edmonton, where we have had a lovely cooler and rainier spring compared to last year. My spinach has not yet bolted.

Just one word of advice is when planting like melons or cucumbers in the greenstalks to take a pole noodle and cut to fit the lip of the greenstalk and slice one side and fit down over the edge of the pocket so that the stem doesn't break as it vines out. It provides a cushion. I have 7 greenstalks now and I learnt that my first season after my vines would snap due to the weight of the fruit or cucumbers. Just thought I'd share that 😊

Oh and this is seemingly random but I've been meaning to thank you for the Wild deodorant recommendation. It is the best deodorant I've ever used (and I've tried them all chemicals and naturals across the board ... dove zero and meow meow tweet were my two better experiences, but neither of them are as great as wild. My only complaint is they run out kind of quickly, but I know there's nothing you can do about that 😂. I do appreciate that you are sharing affiliates with products you've personally tested and not just using your brand to help market another brand for the paycheck, but are genuinely testing the products and marketing the ones that are worth it to you and can give reviews. I will happily help support your channel and products that are genuinely worth trying. So thank you for that. Truly. My armpits haven't been happier ;)

I get so drawn to your channel as I find it a little nostalgic. I am a 70 something who raised my children in Puerto Rico. I found myself using many of these techniques in order to provide my family with healthy, nutritious, and affordable food. One of our biggest problems was getting milk that was not loaded with antibiotics or chickens that did not have outrageous as mounts of hormones added. I was able to make yogurt from powdered whole milk.

I’m happy for you to get the Greenstalks! I hope they do well for you. I’ve wanted to get one for strawberries, but I tried one of the Dollar Tree ones and it dried out way too fast in our dry climate. I couldn’t keep it watered enough. I don’t know if the Greenstalk would stay moist better or not. I’m surprised you have to worry about tomato diseases, since you have a dry climate like mine in SW Idaho.

I have 2 of the 7 tier greenstalks, and I absolutely love them. I put them at the two ends of my 24’ raised bed on pavers for stability. I bought the turntables, and love them, also! Because the ground was a little unstable, I only went 5 tiers high and ordered another turntable and watering top to make another that is 4 tiers. I have planted lettuce and carrots in them so far. I’ve never had such success with my romaine and spinach! Lots of salads already! One end gets shaded part of the day, and the lettuce has not bolted, yet. (The spinach did, and I’m about to reseed.). Long story short, they’re worth every penny!

Green Stalk says to use potting mix not potting soil. The mix will not compact, unlike what potting soil does. It lets water flow through.

If you planted the oregano in the GreenStalk, I recommend that you remove it, and plant in a pot. 🤦🏻‍♀️I forgot oregano takes over everything, and I planted it in my GreenStalk. What a mess I had!

I have grown with limited success, the Musk melon, and cantaloupe. I have been making my own yogurt for about 45 years. So much better than store bought. I was going to sign up for your giveaway and was disappointed to see it was only for USA residents. A disappointed Canadian.

Hate to say it but I don’t like my GreenStalk. The watering holes plugged up easily so you can’t just water from the top. If you don’t pick similar water requirements the plants suffer. I have had more die than live even though I do have a green thumb.
