Hi Gregor, I spent loads of time at Shepreth & at race meetings with my dad. I was therefore around your dad for number of years. He was somewhat a idol for me and a great character. As you know he was a fantastic driver and I personally I do not think there was or has been a better saloon car driver ever. Our family was very grateful that your dad came to dad's funeral. It was good to see him as it had been a number of years. It was then quite a shock to hear not long after of your dad's. Are you in contact with Gerry at all as he has just written a book about Blydensteins & DTV with the proceeds going to charity. Tim
@@timwaldock1313 Hi Tim. Great memories for you to have, as I was born in '77 al the DTV days were over, but I can just imagine what it was like for you. I can't disagree with you judgement of Dad, I would agree with you 😉 I see Gery J occassionally and am aware of his book, hopefully people enjoy it.
Gregor, thank you, this has brought back so many memories. I used to go to Mallory Park to see your Dad racing both in the “Old Nail” and Big Bertha. His tussles with Dave Brodie were legendary, both in excellent cars and never wanting to give in to the other. Gerry was my favourite to watch, amazing driver with a good sense of humour. Thank you👍
I was lucky enough to have seen your father race many times and he was always giving ten tenths. That video is so well filmed especially given its age. Thank you for sharing it.
I was lucky enough to have been at that meeting at the age of 11 ! Lydden was my local circuit , and I was lucky enough to meet your dad there , and many years later at the Goodwood revival where I mentioned to him about the Lydden days , fond memories and a great video of a driving masterclass
This brings back some memories! When my dad would take me to Brands Hatch it was always Gerry I wanted to see as he was so spectacular and so fast at the same time. I’ve raced at Lydden Hill and it really isn’t a forgiving circuit, but it is a fun one 😊
Good old days, I remember when the circuit was first built and I have raced there quite a few times over the years in Hot Rods/Moto Cross/Sprints/Classic Saloon Cars. I also raced with Gerry for several years in different events in the UK and abroad. I always remember him coming up to me at Spa and remarking that I was one of the luckiest drivers out there to be sponsored by of all things a "BREWERY". Good old boy !
OMG. I get up bleary eyed very early for work and look for something whilst I have me breakfast and wake up. I AM AWAKE NOW!!!! Fabulous way to start the day. Gerry is GOD. 😉👍👍👍. Thats for sharing Gregor . Id not seen this before ( well I might have done but I was only 5 at the time) ❤👍👍👍
What with Gerry's driving ability, the engineering of Bill Blydenstein, guys like Costin on board, and the great set of mechanics they had, that was a hell of a team at Shepreth!
Thanks Gregor for adding this and other videos of your dad. I have fond memories of seeing him in an Aston Martin DB 4 power sliding at Donnington amongst other places . The Firenza and Viva GT's are probably my top race cars of all time . I have a photo of myself with your dad at Donnington when he was racing the Marsh Plant Hire Aston , I exchanged a few words with him ( good memories of a legend ) Keep the vids coming . Oh and a commentating legend in Murray as well !!
Amazing how Gerry Marshall crowds up on Brodie at the corners, showing who's actually the boss. I might even have been at this event myself - even though I am an eastmidlander, my father had a string of Mexicos (with the Kent not the BDA 1600) and he liked Lydden Hill circuit (not the nearest racetrack by miles!). Marshall was through his driving a hero of mine and even broke through my teenage obsession with Fords, no mean feat.
Thanks for the comment, great you enjoyed and I don't think Dave ever beat Dad in a wheel to wheel race, no matter what he might say?! Vauxhall and DTV tried to emulate the Ford success, but the race budget was so small, but they did a damn good job 🏁
We followed Bill Blydenstein back in the late 1950s/ early 60s when he raced Borgwards as dad had a Borgward and was mates with Ken Gibson of the BARC. I last saw Gerry race in Baby Bertha at the 1975 British GP meeting.
Bill was a great guy, brilliant engineer and very quick driver. I was with his children 2 weeks ago for a celebration of Frances Mary, Bill's widow who passed away earlier this year. Dad adored Bill - he had raced against my Grandad in the late '50s.
I'm still learning about editing and cropping videos and this footage is from a 30 minute montage of Dad's racing (including footage of Baby Bertha from There's Only One Gerry) and required a lot or editing. Hopefully still enjoyable though 😆
@@theoriginalwallace I've not looked recently, but will do today. If you need any stickers for the Viva let me know, I have thousands of photos and have had a lot of stickers re-made too.
This brings back good memories as my dad Dick Waldock built the cars for Gerry at Blydenstein's with Gerry Johnstone and Geoff Hall.
My Dad was very fond and always spoke very highly of you Dad Dick and Geoff also, great mechanics 👍

Wow I'm thirteen, my grandad told me that he built the engines for the company, so amazing, makes me want to build a tribute car
Great to hear, if you need any help let me know. Who was your Grandad? I'm seeing a lot of the old DTV guys on Friday. Cheers.
gerry will always be my hero he was amazing in an out of the car
Really kind of you to say 🍻
Thanks for this Gregor. Love footage like this.

My father bought a 2.3 Firenza on the strength of this race. Both big fans of Gerry.
It was a great race & hope your Dad enjoyed his Firenza 🍻

An absolutely awesome drive by your dad! I'm so enjoying all of these marvelous videos of Gerry and I have also subbed to your channel, thanks Gregor!

The Escort bda is not a Mexico, they didn't have square head lamp. it's probably a twin cam car with newer bda engine!

No Namby Pamby safety car or race stoppages back then, just proper race drivers getting on with it.
It was a bit close though, but if drivers actually observe flags, then a race can continue 🏁
Lovely pass on Brodie! Thanks for sharing this, much enjoyed. BTW is that the "Janglia" in second place?
Glad you enjoyed.
Not sure if the JAnglia, could be.
The Brode kind of lost my respect there, when he overtook Gerry under a waved yellow.
Not like Dave to bend the rules a little 😉
Dad made a race of it and got him in the end 🏁
