Thanks for putting this on The Tube. Yes real racing and car set up by trying settings. Engine development was the same. No ecu's, no throttles bodies, no wind tunnels, tyres about just good enough but only just. Seat of the pants driving. Most doing ordinary jobs during the week. To boldly go where no teams had gone before. Just magic
7 -litre Falcon vs 1.6 litre Escort, but it's still not a push-over! The days when you could go to your local dealer and buy a car that with a few mods would handle recognisably like the track cars, if not as quick (hardly an issue on the road).
The Falcon Sprint cars from that era only came with 4.2 or 4.7 litre V8 motors. The 289 and 260 motors. It was the larger Ford Galaxy cars that raced in earlier years with a 7 litre motor. The 427 production engine.
Fantastic stuff!! Surprised that fuel injection was being used then! Presumably those huge Falcons were in a different catagory to the smaller engined cars?
In 1968 the VW Type 3 was the first production car to have fuel injection. Each class earned its own points so a car finishing mid pack (but winning its own class) could be the overall champion at the end of the season Class A (upto 1000cc) Class B (1001-1300cc) Class C (1301- 2000cc) Class D (Over 2000cc)
Thank you ! They were happy days cheers❤👍👍😊
Proper Racing no computer monitoring and correcting things 👍 …. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood … wonderful stuff 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Great review of the season. Frank Gardner + Alan Mann Racing + Mk 1 Escort. Brilliant!

Wonderful views of the old Brands Hatch when it was lined by all those safety………. trees!
And photographers stood beside the track...!!
I was there. John Rhodes and John Handley in the works minis. Wow.

If Frank Gardner piloted Escort No.35, who drove Escort No.36?
Peter Arundell pretty sure. That No.36 Alan Mann Escort just sold in auction for £195,500
@@ianbrown9082 Cost £5000 new according to Gardner here!

Minis were so underestimated........ NOT! lol
Run a car as wide as the track and make sure you’re in pole. Simples.
Yes but those Minis used to get through, I was Mini man
So funny compared to Murray Walker's commentary. ❤🤣
