There’s definitely a disconnect here with the viewers. Sneakers nowadays are like stocks, nobody knows how much the value of shoes will be worth. It’s not just a pawn shop where people sell shoes because they’re going broke, there’s a market for shoes. There’s definitely people who sell shoes when they need money or people who are broke and should not be buying items, but there’s also people that are well off who are buying a numerous amount of shoes either to collect or to resell. Those 2 factors of collectors and resellers is what creates the market.
Say a shoe is 200 when released, it’s not about the quantity or exclusivity necessarily, but just the fact that there’s people who want the shoe. So now the $200 shoes could either be valued twice, triple, etc. the amount depending on if people want the shoe or not, or if there’s just a general hype. And the same goes for when the value goes down. Companies set the retail price, but the people are the ones who set the value. Stores like these in the video have their prices they want to set, but they don’t necessarily control the value, they just set the price of what will make a profit for them. A shoe they sell for $200 could be $500 the next day and then back to $200 the next next day, it all depends on how the market fluctuates.
It’s clothes so people will have their opinion, but ask yourself what the difference is with the stock market. They’re both stupid and imaginary at the end of the day, but it also brings people a lot of wealth and enjoyment.
Im glad I stepped away from the consumerism at an early age, but I was in High School making $500-$1000 a week just for selling basic sneaker releases. And to this day, there’s people out there making a living and getting rich off sneakers. If there’s money involved, people will always find a way to profit if they want it bad enough.

I always find it wild when people are spending that much money on a pair of Jordans but are basically living paycheck to paycheck. Weird priorities. Idk anyone in this video, but I see it all of the time in my life. Not just Jordans, but clothes in general.

It's one of those things that are huge in the black community. Dudes will be in poverty but have fresh kicks on. They'll pay $500 for a pair of shoes that cost like $10 to make and are of low quality lol.

@@Plague_Doc22 Yeah, reminds me of that Bill Burr bit about how he's gotta stop hanging out with black people because he's going broke trying to keep up with their wardrobe lol
It's sad that it's all about appearances in society. I'm jeans and a t-shirt when I'm working from home, but if I have to go into the office and I'm wearing a suit that day, it's wild how differently people treat me when I'm in public and walk into a store or restaurant. I'm NOT rich by any means lol

@@Plague_Doc22 Lol ever heard of reselling? $300-500 is a lot but it could turn a huge profit with time and patience

You see it with many things now, sure this was kind of a thing back in the 80s and 90s but it really starter after the internet became mainstream in the early 2000s and then with hypebeast. Now because of social media its everywhere and with multiple products, its all about impulse buying the newest limited time "collectors" drops so you can show off.
A massive one is makeup, a new makeup line will drop and the whole set will cost $200, $300, $500+ and people will go out and buy everything, makeup mirrors bags what ever is for sale. Makeup gose bad in like 6 months to around 2 years based on the makeup, so its not like it can be "collected."
And most of the people buying these products shoes, clothes, makeup, whatever cannot afford them. They are working minimum wage jobs living paycheck to paycheck and they save up or spend what little they have left every month on these items, because they are told to on social media.

Those are the times. As someone who used to make videos, if you have a 1 second break from action in your video your viewership crashes. You're forced to cut any down time from your videos even if it kills the timing.
