I am a native New Yorker and I was living overseas on 9/11. I had a family member working in the South Tower of the Twin Towers that day. Early that morning, I got a call from my roommate telling that something had happened in NYC. I quickly turned on the TV and the local news of the nation in which I was living was covering the unfolding events. I got a few calls of support from local friends who knew I was from NY. After a while, I ran down to a internet cafe because I could not get through by phone to my family and friends in the NYC area. I watched CNN en Espanol at the internet cafe while I emailed everyone I knew at home. After spending hours emailing everyone, I went home still not knowing what had happened to my family member and my many friends who were NYC cops and a firefighter. Later that night I got a call telling me that my family member was missing and feared dead. A couple of days later, this fear became a reality. I tried to find a flight home, but couldn´t because the US airspace was still locked down. It took me 9 days to get back to NYC. We held a memorial for my family member in NYC. Meanwhile my friends worked at ground zero looking for survivors.

That day you weren't a BENNY you were a fellow American. I'm sorry for your loss, from a New Jersian. I too had friends at ground zero, they were talking about my dad joining up with the crews up there, but it was decided he was better used on asset protection.

Mike saying that the plane was "a bit short" that went down in Pennsylvania is an understatement. We have to remember those brave guys on that flight including the CEO of company storming the cockpit, knowing the most likely outcome so other people except for them didnt die as well. They all called their loved ones to explain before. Please watch and react to a video about flight 93. Its unbelievable.

I was 13 when this happened. Had math class first period. Was one of the few classrooms with one of those tvs on the wheeled stands in it (not for math obviously.) But we were able to get basic cable on it. We switched it on before the second tower was hit. I remember a whole bunch of teachers standing in the back of our classroom when the second plane hit. (I'm Canadian btw. But I'm only about 2hrs from the border. Near Toronto.). I can't remember exactly how long after the second plane hit before they closed all the schools and sent us home. But it wasn't too long. Maybe an hour. Probably less. Was about a 15 min walk home. I remember turning on the TV and just staring at the screen for hours.
That school was grade 5 to grade 8 for me. To this day that day is by far my most vivid memory of being at that school.

I visited the Flight 93 memorial a few years ago and they have a timeline laid out there also. If I recall correctly, the plane was not that far out from DC. If the passengers hadn’t fought back, it would have reached its intended target (now believed to have been the Capitol building) before the shoot down order actually came in/the fighter jets reached it.
I think it was like a 10 minute differential or something pretty close. Those passengers are absolutely heroes.

I was in junior highschool, seated in my first class of the day when a teacher from across the hall came running into the room and without a word cut on the television that was mounted on the wall just inside the door.
The screen flickered on just in time for us to witness the second plane crashing in real time. We were obviously shocked and things quickly became rather hectic after that.

I was in 5th grade when it happened, and we lived in NJ. They didn't tell us anything at school, but we all had to tell the teacher what our afterschool plans were. I remember thinking that was a weird question. Later I realized it was because they didn't want anyone to go home to an empty house. We lived close enough to the city and some kids' parents worked in the city.

There was a very special reason that they flew to Barksdale AFB. The base was already under lockdown before the attacks, this was because of the Global Guardian military drill, which is a nuclear war exercise. So when Air Force One landed, it was surrounded by bombers, loaded with with full nuclear payloads.

I here as a Finn who was serving his mandatory military time in 2001, remember the moment I learned of these events very well. I was in my base and since it was the evening time off, I went to our local "soldier's home" (they are basically recreational areas for all those who are serving with restaurants, shops, pizzerias, libraries, etc) and noticed everyone had their's eyes on the news in TV, so I stopped and paid attention. It was such a surreal experience. Like something from a movie, but in real life.

I believe that the DC sniper story was even more scary because no one knew where the attacks were coming from. I watched as my mom's face turned into one of the purest shock I've ever seen, and she looks directly at me and shouts "Go turn on the TV!" I kind of roll my eyes and ask "What channel?" I live in Northeast Pennsylvania. That morning I had just dropped my kids off at school (kindergarten, 1st & 3rd grades). I always listened to Howard Stem on my way to work, and he was reacting to this tragedy live. My co-worker caked and told me my kids' school was closing, and I had to go back pick them up. Their school was only 15 minutes from a nuclear power plant, and no one knew if the power plants could be next. We went home and were glued to the TV. My 5 & 7 year olds were glad to be home. However, my 9 year old was so scared and full of questions that no one had answers to. School was closed for the week, and we already had the ability to work remotely. This was such a scary time, especially with scared kids asking questions that had no answers.

They were pretty much aiming for all hitting within a few minutes of each other. They did not take into account with flight 93 the delays that always occur taking off from Newark International Airport. That is why they were "so far" behind in the actual terrorist set time line. This allowed the passengers to hear about what was happening and the passengers to decide they were not going to allow more terrorism to occur. They take back or take down the plane.

A not known fact about that day in New York City. A murder happened around the time unrelated from the attacks but no responded when the victim called 911, sadly he was murdered, no police came to the scene. I am a little ashamed to say until I watched this OB react that I never thought about how the world was worried for their own countries... was London next? for ex. The first time in my adult life when I was challenged about protecting my country was w the Kuwaiti war. MTV was playing Black Crowes Hard to Handle (Otis cover) and my roommate and I had a serious discussion about whether to drop out of Univ and join the military. That fight was over before we'd decided.
*** But 9/11 was my "Pearl Harbor".... and I do NOT equate them as the same... but it was my, in real time, in my lifetime, gut punch that my country was threatened within, not to take away from the OK City bombing... this just was massive. ... Spent that night and the next few days with my ex glued to me every evening watching the TV, learning the stories. When Bruce Springsteen rededicated My City of Ruins... I fricking wept. That song will forever remind me of the heartbreak of those immediate days.

You need to watch the video about the flights that landed in Gander - Newfoundland - Canada and the 4 days that this town had over 100 planes land during this time and the Americans affected during this. It shows the true meaning of love when people are in this type of situation. It's one of those events like the boat lift that people aren't really aware of. ua-cam.com/video/0qDdgjgC_ig/v-deo.html

Very very few people are aware that 2 people were arrested that morning at the hotel trying to get close access to the president. They were a news crew (cameraman and reporter). They were not scheduled or cleared and secret service detained them. They were searched and there was a bomb in the camera. Two surface to air missiles were fired at the plane as they crossed over the everglades. They never found who fired them but they were shoulder fired and likely Russian made. The fighter escorts intercepted them. You will never find this in any major news articles or official reports, but it's true. We live right next to the Bush residence in Maine and we know them quire well. Let's just keep it at that. He's not responsible for 9-11. Dick Cheney is the one who knew about it. It's not classified and nobody will really believe it anyway and that's why I bring it up sometimes.
