thanks! I have several citrus trees and thos will give a beautiful take on what more to do with them..especially during the holidays dressed up w candy canes and peppermint..plus help heat up house during the cold month!
Those are beautiful. I just dehydrated tangerine slices in my dehydrator and they're delicious. And that's without sugar. The peels are good too, but more bitter. I need mats for my dehydrator.
If dehydrated until completely dry they can last a few weeks, when packed in an airtight container. If you leave on a dry place they don’t need to be refrigerated. Left in the open it will depend on humidity. If you are using as a decoration they can be sure left in the open.
@@HomeChefSeattle thanks for replying! I have another question, what if instead of just air tight, its vacuum sealed, do you think it will last longer, and will vacuum sealing it have an effect on the fruits flavor? Also do the sugar melt easily?im just afraid of it just rotting in my storage..also for sugar content, making fruits candied will add high sugar amount on an already high fruit sugar variety, do you think how much should be consumed?sorry for my English...hoping you respond to this additional queries i have, again thank you.
@@teryn3723 Sorry for the late reply. I would imagine that vacuum sealing would extend the time you can keep them. I do not think it will affect the flavor. Depending for what you plan on using it, you can also dehydrate the fruit following the same process without adding any extra sugar. It won't be as sweet, but it is still good to add to teas and drinks for flavor. It can also be eaten but it may have a stronger flavor. Most of the bitter taste is on the rind, so if the variety of citrus you have has a thin rind it will be less bitter.
Yes you can, for bananas and apples there is no need to add extra sugar. If you want a thin flat chip you can still have the initial baking, if you only want to dehydrate them and doesn’t care about them being flat and translucent you can just proceed to dehydrate them directly.
Can they be done In a dehydrator?! Also was the peel hard to chew? I love your video as I just found you. I am subscribing to your channel as I loooove your accent too!😁

It really depends on humidity, I like to store it in between layers of parchment paper to avoid them sticking to each other and in a ziplock bag with the air removed. it can be stored this way in a cool dry place for a week or so, it can be also be kept this way in the fridge.
You can use a dehydrator for citrus fruits, they may not be as flat and curl up a little, but usually oranges keep a nice shape. Happy to hear you are enjoying the channel. Thanks 🙏
This is a very nice recipe! I enjoy your channel! I make cooking videos to and find your work inspirational! Thank you for sharing! I subscribed and hope to learn from one another! Happy New year!
Thank you for sharing this method! Will definitely give this a try!! I have a question for with regards to the initial process. Can I use parchment paper instead of silicone sheets?
Yes, you can substitute the silicones mats for parchment paper. The paper may curl up a little because of the moisture and the slices be not as flat, otherwise it should work.
Thank you so much! If you happen to have an Instagram account please check my account @homechefseattle I have dishes posted using some of the decorations. I will also plan on some videos! Have a great day!
Its a great idea , i don’t like to waste food , please i need help how to save them longer !? Please tell me ❤ can i just put them outside freezer or how ?
they are best kept in an airtight container and should be good for a couple of weeks or they can also last longer when kept in the fridge in an airtight container. I also like to add layers for parchment paper between them to avoid sticking to each other.
Sounds good. I want to use them as a garnish on a key lime pie. The result will be hard? Crispy, like a cracker? Or maybe something like a gummy bear, chewy? Can you clarify what the final texture is please? I looked at candy recipes and the high heat makes the limes look bad. Thanks.
They should be store in an airtight container, I like to have have layers of parchment paper between them to avoid sticking to each other. They last for a good while, it also depends on the humidity.
With the very thin slices and the initial baking between the silicone mats some of the bitterness is eliminated, you just need to keep the slices as thin as possible. For thicker slices you can boil them first. Some citrus will have more bitterness than others, depending on the thickness of the rind.
Remove the rind... I just did this on tangerines and they're delicious (without sugar). You can dehydrate the rinds too and grind or choo them to add to recipes... Orange chicken?
You may try it, usually for dehydration you want a low temperature and extended time, it should be low and slow. I would keep a close eye to make sure they don't burn and you are getting the results expected.
@@alicethomson8542 Please note that lemons and limes get a very concentrated flavor following this method, it is great and perfect for garnish, added to drinks etc but on the tart side to just much on. If you want something a lot sweater and with milder lemony taste, I recommend cooking the slices in a simple syrup (equal parts of water and sugar) until they start to become translucent and then dehydrate them.

This is so much more simple than the other method requiring you to cook them in a saucepan with syrup. Uses less sugar and no wastage too.
Yes. i have seen the method too and I agree it looks complicated and wasteful.. this one is more user friendly!!
The way you showed how to fix the slices, made more sense than all the other videos, thank you for making this easy.
