I'm in Texas, USA. I remember my grandmother making this, but she just used sugar and water. No orange juice. It was delicious. I'm going to try it your way, I expect it will be even better!
It's wonderful that the recipe brings back fond memories of your grandmother's cooking! I hope you enjoy trying out. Let me know how it turns out for you, and if you have any more family-inspired recipes or suggestions, feel free to share! Happy cooking❤️😊
Thank you! Reminds me of my dear late Moms orange peel bread. As a kid I wasn't fond, but boy how I wish she could make it for me now. And I could help her. I eat so many oranges and mandarins and clementines this would be great. My granddaughter actually loves those orange jellies.🙏🏼🍊🍞🍬
I am watching from Kerala, India. Actually I was looking for a home made recipe of candied orange peel so that I can use when l am baking christmas cake. I always loved everything homemade than the store-bought. Definitely I will try this recipe.

I am watching from Malta, 60 miles down South from Sicily and 130 miles North of Libya in the Mediterranean. Our local oranges are pretty good, with the sun we get, and they make good Marmalade . Tomorrow I shall try this first thing in the morning. Than k you.

What an interesting recipe, I'll be sure to try it! Although a lot of pesticides are absorbed by citrus fruits, so it is best to use organically grown alternatives when possible. Another non-food use for orange peel: when dried completely, it serves as additional kindling for a fireplace in colder climates such as here in Scandinavia, as the aromatic oils in the dried peel makes it burn well (and it adds a nice smell to the house while drying). Happy holidays!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm glad you find the recipe interesting, and your tip about using organically grown citrus fruits is excellent for minimizing pesticide exposure. The idea of using dried orange peel as kindling is brilliant, especially for adding both warmth and a pleasant aroma during the colder seasons in Scandinavia. Happy holidays to you too! If you decide to try the recipe or have any more insights to share, feel free to let me know. Enjoy the festive season!😊❤️
A fervura e a lavagem com bicarbonato retira os pesticidas. Em Portugal fazemos as cascas confitadas que são usadas no nosso bolo tradicional de natal. Bolo Rei
@@AnaMarinaThe pesticides on the surface of the peel, sure. However, no amount of scrubbing will remove the pesticides absorbed into the cells of the fruit or peel...and citrus fruits are among the crops that receive the most pesticide use. But by all means, to each their own! Have a nice day!
Thank you for this video! Love that it's straight to the point and the music makes it relaxing to watch. Since we have orange and lemon trees in the backyard, will be trying this soon. Do you have a recipe for candied ginger?
Great video, will try the recipie next month when I make an Irish christmas cake that has to be aged for a month and it needs good Orange peel. Thanks form Tokyo, Japan!!!!
Tried this recipe, peels were bitter in the end. I saw another recipe that requires three separate boils of the peels to eliminate the bitterness. Will give that a try. Washing with baking soda is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
I have been making orange peels for my Christmas cakes this way for the past 4-5 years now. The only change is that i dont dry the peels. I store them with the syrup and add a generous amount of rum to the bottle. And yes! Someone commented that it tastes bitter at the end. So yes, it does taste bitter when freshly made but with time, the peels lose their bitterness and the flavour deepens. So they taste the best next year.
I have wanted to make Candied Orange Peels for some time and wasn't sure it could be done but alas, I stumbled upon your recipe and I'm glad and thankful that I did because if I had been left to my own devices, I wouldn't have cut the pith off after the first boil (which would have caused bitterness). I'm glad to FINALLY know how to do this properly (thank you for saving me from myself) 😊 I wonder if this same process can be used with lemon peel ? 🤔
Yes same for lemon u can even do it together. Just to modify her method you blanch the peel on boiling water for 8toc20 min reason to remove or lessen d bitterness it is also ok not to remove d pith bec that's were the nutrients are....
