Do you have any tips on how to do it if there aren't any raised/abrasive parts on the windshield? Thanks for the videos, helped me out many times. Awesome work ✌
I've been avoiding finishing a build because I didn't have window masks. This video helped a lot. I learned some new tricks :) Thanks!
As usual, excellent, inspiring and perfectly explained!
Great tutorial! Nice to see how others do things! Thanks for sharing!
Lovely Technic! Thanks for the tutorial.
Thats legit! Looks like real rubber moulding. I have been building mine without that, and now i can see the benefit of this! I will build my next one using this and post it.
That looks like a Raptor. Exciting! Very well done masking and painting.
Thank you for this video, it's really useful and well explained.
Thanks for the video. I am building a car model and this video was Awesome. I usually build model airplanes , and the canopies are much smaller than the windshield/back glass. I have new found inspiration from your video.
This is a brilliant technique. Thanks for sharing.
The exact thing I was looking for! Great vid! Thanks!!
Wow this video is very explaining and easy to understand too. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial, thanks for sharing.
Great video bud! Looks great!
Very Clean and crisp.
Another great tutorial. Thanks for sharing
Very nice tutorial videos. You gave me several great clear parts masking tips on this one. Thank you, I'll be back. Building military aircraft and a few cars.
very helpful tutorial as always.
I never even thought of this b4 really cool gonna have to try it sometime
Hello! Thank you very much for the lesson, thank you very much!
That was great...straight forward and not too hard..
Great! Thx for sharing. Regards Mike
wonderful skill, this is great advantages tips for a beginner like me.
Excellent Tip - especially when you don't have aftermarket masks - Thanks for this.
thank you very much i always cut the clean part but usung pencil is a great idea you are so clever thanks again
Very useful.🙂 A thumbs up. 👍
wooooooow greatings from Poland
Great! Thank you!
Looks like an idea you can use for aircraft canopies and other vehicles with windshields. Military...etc.
Love the vids keep it up
thanks for a king great videos
Nice work my dude
You are really good with an X-acto knife.
thank you very much my friend 👍👌
Thanks for the tutorial, that came out great.
God bless all here
Thanks for the tip and also... I think have the same airbrush and ”paintbooth”. 😁👍
great tutorial, THANK YOU........JIM
Sharpies work great for this. fine and extra fine.. If you can cut it out with the exacto knife , you can draw around it with the extra fine Sharpie
Wow thanks!
Nice job
Thanks mate!
just like to add my tip i would tape the out side of window to start off with cause rough fingers could cause scratches and i have actually caused light scratches on a few windows due to my hand being rough and dry cracked cause i work on real cars/trucks
TY MAN!!
Nice video
nice job
Thanks for your tips!!and I'd like to know the vinyl glove brand. Please let me know the hand glove that you wore..
Hey, excellent idea. I was wondering if you've made some older models where there is chrome around the windows. If you have do you have a video doing the foil glue method. Some of the window chrome strips are very fine, and working around the windshield wipers looks pretty tough.
+BennyCFD I dont have video of this yet, when i come arround to it ill be sure to make a how to.
I've done the blackedge freehand with flat black testor's & a fine brush.
no tape required for my solid steady 55 y/o hand.
This prevents the use of ANY exacto scars. it looks real enuf at 1/25 or 1/24 OR 1/16TH scales. Also, btw, the kits do NOT have pre-ground "paint here" areas.
😆 😉
I free hand it also. I use acrylic flat black. If I slip, a damp cotton bud will fix it. Masking is extremely tedious.
What if I don't have a rough outline on the windshield like you have in this video to trace out?
Firstly i loved your all videos i just started to do model making. Which brand dıd you use it ?
Great technique.. the only thing I do different is to dip the glass in a bowl of "FUTURE" floor cleaner, sit it on a paper towel & cover to dry for a few hours. (I usually will cover it with the models box top)... It removes all of those tiny scratches & really makes the glass POP!! ...LEBIII
Zen Modeling even better is just polishing the clear plastic comes up like glass.
Cool tutorial I think this will help me too because my supra hasn't any window masking .... I never payed attention to your final credits :D
Really funny :D
+KBTDK Lol, i somehow think not many people have in seeing the questions i sometimes getXD
Awesome vid. Now I’d like to go back and fix some past models. Lol. What can I use to remove paint from clear plastic that won’t craze it? Trying to remove enamel and acrylic
Enamels you could maybe try polishing it off. But i don’t know if it will come off and not harm the glass.
For acrylics i have used tamiya acrylic paint thinners in the past. And that worked for me
Hi Tom, This was a great video I have finally subscribed to your channel and will be following your builds, but please excuse me as I'm mainly into armour and military aircraft, but I would like to do some cars in the future.
Happy building,
Les
+Les Thiele As long as you enjoy building i'm all good with it! its not up to me to what you are building.
I use a black Sharpie freehand.
Does it work on car windows too?
Then what type of paint would I use ?
I need help when I messed up the canopy, but sprayed it with Tamiya Ts-13 and it fogs up, other than wet sanding is there an alternative to fix the canopy?
If you take the tape off and cut it on the workbench, seems it would be very difficult to re-position the mask on the plastic exactly where you want it.
great video! How do you get rid of stains on glass? cloudy spots remain after the hands
Microfiber towel
V-nice
Do you paint the window channel on the car also?
hand of god
In some cases, black surfacer have better cover effect than common paint.
I use curved tape for this
can you give any tips for any bleeds from the mask lifting? i got a couple bad spots and i really dont want to ruin the clear!
That depends on the type of paint you used
Could you add a layer of smoke near the top like a sun blocker?
sure
Can you do a tutorial on paint brushing like how to keep the paint consistency and what to do when paint gets too thick/thin and also how to get rid of air bubbles.
thin the paints down + add some retarder, helps a ton in my experience
test different consistencies on some test plastic or an old model 1st to learn what works best for you
Do you know how to remove's paint that leaks through the masking tape ☹ ?? My windows are ruin
Great tutorial, what type of masking tape is that?
+Colonel Reb's Scale Models Its a combination of Tamiya and KIP tape.
Why does my Vallejo black spray onto clear parts and not stick?? :/
Are using acrylic or enamel paint in your air brush when applying the flat black paint?
Can be either
How to remove color spread on the clear parts while spraying the black border
How do you make tow hooks? Thank you
+xBernestox take a piece of plastic. Drill a hole and then cut it to shape of a tow hook. Or buy them from hobby design or scale production
The Scalemodeling Channel thank you
@@TheScalemodelingChannel Van I use a regular masking tape instead?
Excellent guide, wouldn't have thought to lead pencil the frame first. On another note, do you ever gloss the window with a gloss coat, prior to finishing the model? Or is it not needed?
I do not, i don't think it is neccesary
Thank you. You haven't found the windows to discolor or dull out (like old headlights on a real car), even after a long time?
Nope
Great. Thanks m8, keep up the great work and tutorials.
Could you do a tutorial on how to glue Windows? When I do it, it always turns out really foggy and not clear
Thats because your using the wrong glue, try a glue specialy made for clear parts
Ok is micro Krystal klear good?
+Breaking rc yep
ok thanks!
i glue them with a bit of transparent silicone, (the one that smels like vinegar) and i like it because is easy to remove
What is the best masking tape to use. I have been using pre-cut window masks by Hobby Design but they leave a residue behind on the clear parts. Thanks.
Tamiya or KIP are my preffered tapes
wow
Is there a way to do a gradient blue tint on the very top of the windshield?
Probably with some clear blue paint and an airbrush
👌👍
do you have a video on lowering kits
+James Stoner not specificaly, but i did some lowering on the porsche cayman build. So maybe check that one out
Thank you
Your pullman pen are exactly same with the pen in my pocket right now
Or you're just happy to see him.
Would a sharpie work . Or black paint marker
nah that is too cheap and easy.
Weird question...Is there a certain type of pencil I should be using for this? I've been trying it and the pencil won't actually mark the plastic, it just slides around.
No, just a regular one. though it will only work on the rough clear plastic
How about doing the entire window with transparent colors
That is possible, yes
I am sure you have been asked this a million times but , what brand or brands of masking tape do you use?
Thanks , Mike
Tamiya and KIP
I have some Tamiya but what is KIP?
Thanks , Mike
I found it , Thanks , Mike
Would you get even sharper result if you would block of the masking tape edges with gloss clear first or is it a waste of time?
Warpainting tutorials Well if the masking is in place properly it would not bee needed. This is only to reinsure you that it won't seep through. But when using Acrylic paint its easily fixed when it does by just cleaing it off with a bit of the acrylic thinners. So in my opinion its a waste of time.
Yes, exactly. Tamiyas tape usually gives really nice edges provided that you made sure its sticks properly. I guess that's the beauty of acrylics and the reason to why you picked it for this tutorial.
By the way, what kind of audio setup do you use for recording your sound?
Warpainting tutorials I Use ' Imovie ' on my Imac. I just plug in my iphone earphones wich has a microfone built in.
I see, thanks for the info. Keep up the good work.
but this is still not flaweless. Is there any way to do this absolutely flaweless? I mean without any uneven contours?
@gabrielwhite My favorite comment so far. Myself, I was thinking maybe if I put the windshield under my pillow tonight and said a prayer to him
How about a tutorial about tinting the windows?
its on the channel
The tamiya ts-63 is good to do this ?
I would suggest a regular black
I have an old diecast and i want to restore it but windshield is badly broken ....can you tell how should i fix it ???
There's a UA-camr called Sidewaysking75 who has a method for making new ones. Alternatively, if you know the brand there are some websites which sell spare parts. Like www.modelcarparts.com
how to remove all the screwed up paints on clear parts like that
Soak in Super Clean (AKA The Purple Bath) for a day, then use a soft tooth brush, it should come off nice and clean with no scratches
I screwed up on the windshield on a really expensive model how do I remove the paint.
What kind of paint? Water or rubbing alcohol can remove acrylic. Lacquer I dont know what you can use that wont mess up the plastic...
how do I contact someone there I need help im 70 yrs old
William Freese through facebook
Lol
I ' ve been trying this technique several times and i always get the same issue : the black paint that I use always gets through the masking tape and ends up damaging the windscreen transparent plástic. I think its a problem with the cheap masking tape i use. Cause its so paperlike. It soaks the paint trough and thus the plastic gets in contact with the paint and ends up damaged. Can somebody tell me if thats the issue or could it be something else? .
Yes that sounds like the problem. Try using some higher quality tape like Tamiya
@@TheScalemodelingChannel Thanks for the tip . Also, i use the same technique but instead of black paint ( spray) , I use a black marker pen. The results are pretty good and I dont have to worry about soaking or paint damaging the plastic. One question : is it a good idea to use matte black as primer? Cause I want to paint the car in metallic white. Greetings from Spain . Btw, your paintjobs are exquisit.
Don't use paint as a primer. use actual primer as a primer ;)
@@TheScalemodelingChannel Thanks for the tip again. I ve always used primer as primer, its just that I thought there were other possible alternatives. Cause I ve also seen people applying the paint directly, they actually skip primer and they get great results too.
Can you use blue painters tape that you use on house when painting
Hi! any tips on how to remove paint from clear parts? lets say I want to remove the black gloss paint I laid down coz I want to replace the whole mask with flat black. help!
What paint did you use? If you used Acrylic you can remove it with acrylic thinner, if not you are stuck with it and it would be better to leave it as it is.
Vincent Zamora For acrylic paint, you can also soak the part in glass cleaner to remove the paint.
I only used acrylic tamiya paint. Whew! Is the glass cleaner and thinner safe for the clear plastic?it wont make a cloud or anything?
Vincent Zamora As ong as the Thinner is specificly for Acrylic you should have no problem. Any other thinners could cause clouding.
+The Scalemodeling Channel alright, will try it out with confidence, and backup corssed fingers 😂 thanks TSC! i love your modelling videos, most of which has actually helped me avoid most mistakes a newbie shouldve commited. videos well worth watching! keep it up! :)
what tape do you use
+Balls Big kIP or Tamiya
Wouldn’t I need primer on the clear plastic?
Marc Meijer no, then it would be primer colored on the side you’d want black
Is this the 40mm one ?
yes
