    Hey, excellent idea. I was wondering if you've made some older models where there is chrome around the windows. If you have do you have a video doing the foil glue method. Some of the window chrome strips are very fine, and working around the windshield wipers looks pretty tough.

    I've done the blackedge freehand with flat black testor's & a fine brush.
    no tape required for my solid steady 55 y/o hand.
    This prevents the use of ANY exacto scars. it looks real enuf at 1/25 or 1/24 OR 1/16TH scales. Also, btw, the kits do NOT have pre-ground "paint here" areas.
    😆 😉

    • @davidyoung8521
      @davidyoung8521 Рік тому

      I free hand it also. I use acrylic flat black. If I slip, a damp cotton bud will fix it. Masking is extremely tedious.

    Great technique.. the only thing I do different is to dip the glass in a bowl of "FUTURE" floor cleaner, sit it on a paper towel & cover to dry for a few hours. (I usually will cover it with the models box top)... It removes all of those tiny scratches & really makes the glass POP!! ...LEBIII

    • @TheScalemodelingChannel

      Enamels you could maybe try polishing it off. But i don’t know if it will come off and not harm the glass.

    Would you get even sharper result if you would block of the masking tape edges with gloss clear first or is it a waste of time?

    • @TheScalemodelingChannel
      @TheScalemodelingChannel  9 років тому

      Warpainting tutorials Well if the masking is in place properly it would not bee needed. This is only to reinsure you that it won't seep through. But when using Acrylic paint its easily fixed when it does by just cleaing it off with a bit of the acrylic thinners. So in my opinion its a waste of time.

    • @MalinOfSweden
      @MalinOfSweden 9 років тому

      Yes, exactly. Tamiyas tape usually gives really nice edges provided that you made sure its sticks properly. I guess that's the beauty of acrylics and the reason to why you picked it for this tutorial.

      There's a UA-camr called Sidewaysking75 who has a method for making new ones. Alternatively, if you know the brand there are some websites which sell spare parts. Like www.modelcarparts.com

      Soak in Super Clean (AKA The Purple Bath) for a day, then use a soft tooth brush, it should come off nice and clean with no scratches

      What kind of paint? Water or rubbing alcohol can remove acrylic. Lacquer I dont know what you can use that wont mess up the plastic...

    I ' ve been trying this technique several times and i always get the same issue : the black paint that I use always gets through the masking tape and ends up damaging the windscreen transparent plástic. I think its a problem with the cheap masking tape i use. Cause its so paperlike. It soaks the paint trough and thus the plastic gets in contact with the paint and ends up damaged. Can somebody tell me if thats the issue or could it be something else? .

      Yes that sounds like the problem. Try using some higher quality tape like Tamiya

      @@TheScalemodelingChannel Thanks for the tip . Also, i use the same technique but instead of black paint ( spray) , I use a black marker pen. The results are pretty good and I dont have to worry about soaking or paint damaging the plastic. One question : is it a good idea to use matte black as primer? Cause I want to paint the car in metallic white. Greetings from Spain . Btw, your paintjobs are exquisit.

      Don't use paint as a primer. use actual primer as a primer ;)

      @@TheScalemodelingChannel Thanks for the tip again. I ve always used primer as primer, its just that I thought there were other possible alternatives. Cause I ve also seen people applying the paint directly, they actually skip primer and they get great results too.

    Hi! any tips on how to remove paint from clear parts? lets say I want to remove the black gloss paint I laid down coz I want to replace the whole mask with flat black. help!

      @TheScalemodelingChannel  9 років тому

      What paint did you use? If you used Acrylic you can remove it with acrylic thinner, if not you are stuck with it and it would be better to leave it as it is.

      Vincent Zamora For acrylic paint, you can also soak the part in glass cleaner to remove the paint.

      @misteri09 8 років тому

      I only used acrylic tamiya paint. Whew! Is the glass cleaner and thinner safe for the clear plastic?it wont make a cloud or anything?

    • @TheScalemodelingChannel
      @TheScalemodelingChannel  8 років тому

      Vincent Zamora As ong as the Thinner is specificly for Acrylic you should have no problem. Any other thinners could cause clouding.

      Marc Meijer no, then it would be primer colored on the side you’d want black
