How dare you make it look so easy ;D (traumatized of Uk)
🤣
Some people are annoyingly good!
Lovely job on the paint, awesome gloss.
50 years of modelling and I'm about to try BMF for the first time...always painted trim. I like your one-piece method a lot! Well done video! Subscribed!
This dude is so talented I hope he can live off of this !!! Awesome !!!
Wow perfectly timed! I had been looking for a stick on foil type thing. Earlier today found bare metal foil at a hobby shop. I came home, not knowing how to use it... and saw this video had been released 19 hours before!
Try this stuff it is 18metres long 5cm wide and less 2 pounds / dollars, it's also wafer thin and the adhesive is brilliant, sticks like s*** www.aliexpress.com/item/1-pcs-Aluminium-Foil-Duct-Repairs-Adhesive-Sealing-Tape-Thermal-Resist-Resistant-Foil-Adhesive-Repair-Tools/32816460384.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.LhMAPE
(Psssss - They’re listening to everything you say and do! Gotta go..... they’re coming for me...)
BMF is such a pain, but soooooooooo worth it. Especially after a show win
Nice one! Is that bare metal foil capable of surviving some weather if used on a RC car, or should I use something else? Thank you for your response :)
Probably better to use silver plumbers tape for hard wearing use
"Bare metal Foil" or simply adhesive alu foil for 10€ from LIDL, but with much more content on the roll. Absolute the same result. Don´t buy everything they advertise :D
Do you apply clear coat before, or after the foil? I'm hoping to try thjs for the first time next week.
Before
Finally, someone shows a great way to foil a car. Thanks!
Thanks dude help me a lot
Thanks! I've always been intimidated by this stuff. I appreciate this tutorial.
Good to see, no-nonsense, straightforward scale modeling help on YT. I'm a new subscriber (and I wrote the StarFleet Assembly Manuals, for the Star Trek model kits many years ago).
Great work with the bare metal. Would it have been better to do the bare metal before clear coat and then it would have been sealed in and not at risk of damage when installing the body over the chassis? Whenever I have used bare metal I am always nervous about damaging it with something before the model is finished.
You could seal it with clear, personaly i don't do that anymore as it gets a strange orangepeely look on the BMF
Will it be a good idea to glue the side mirrors on before I paint the body?
If no, what tips can you give me so I can still put the side mirrors on the exact place where it's supposed to be.
Thanks!
Kerwin Dale Ng i drill a small hole in the body and in the mirror and insert a small piece of round plastic or metal tube in it. And then put it in place after paint.
I’ve been building models on and off for 45 years and I absolutely hate BMF. I don’t know what it is but I simply can’t consistently make it look right.
Do you trim other people's models? My dad doesn't have the patience for this. He could obviously ship it to you, and pay. Please let me know if you're interested. Thank you.
Is there any risk of this stuff coming off easily without a clear coat over it? Either by accidentally touching it frequently, or possibly by peeling off years later?
There is yes, but not that big of a chance, if you apply it properly it should stay in place.
Great idea! Now, to save the cutoff pieces better: use clean tweezers to lift off the cutoff piece instead of your oil covered fingers. Thanks for the tip!
like the nurburgring sticker
Good vid, thanks for the helpful tips.. I keep my Leftover bmf pieces to wrap parts.
Excellent work and a fantastic video! Thank you, gonna try this myself on my models.
fuck i have never heard of that stuff
I've been painting chrome on
fuck this looks so much better
thanks for showing me this mate
this is the first time I have seen this method and I am impressed with the clarity of your work.
thanks David Canetti UK
Love the color, though. I just painted one with a similar color.
I am 62 years old been building kits for.fifty years this stuff is with less.
Are Cotton Swabs Really needed i only have toothpicks lol
What about chrome in the car model name like a Catalina. What technique is best to chrome lettering
Would like to see some close-ups of the finished lines
Oh wow! I didn't know this was possible.
I use tamiya tape to mask and I paint the trim with automotive silver chrome touch up paint but with artist brush, it sticks very well, doesn't run and contains clearcoat when i remove the masking it leaves the trim very clean. it's ideal for straight lines
Silly question, how do you deal with the folded over pieces on the inside, like the headliner? I would love to try this, but when painting, the paint wouldn’t affect the headliner on the interior from the outside. I hope that makes sense. I have not built many cars, so I am on a steep learning curve. Thanks!
I either cut it off, or paint over it
I'm going to rip off all the foil I've applied on the car I'm working on and try this was. I've never gone wrong following your instructions. By the way, I have a Ford GT model going into the NNL West pictorial, thanks to your tutoring!
Great video Good job ! Thanks
Hello. Great tips! I’m really learning a lot from your channel. Which is more ‘mirror’ in effect? Ultra bright chrome or chrome? Thank you.
new improved chrome
Molotow chrome marker may just save me more?
Benny Cheng not as durable, or easy to get as good a finish as BMF
Lovely
Don’t they sell rolls of this stuff? It is some sort to like Dryer duct tape......?
Similar. Yes. But way thicker
sweet man
Hello, do you apply any varnish or something after you do them? Is it strong against anything comes from outside?
Couldn’t see how the wipers were done. Do you do really small parts like key holes and lettering?
Hey, why don't you go over the foil with a pen where the metal separates on the full scale? Then you still have the accurate look.
I only build F1 cars, but this sure is helpful and I'll certainly use this technique. I'm curious, does the gold metal foil react the same way? Awesome video and thanks for sharing!
How do you deal with fumes? My family made me airbrush outside after they said I was releasing toxic fumes into our house, even after opening windows and turning on a fan. Is a fume hood a smart purchase?
Noah Williams same
Noah Williams i use a spray booth. I have a video on the channel on how i made one
www.aliexpress.com/item/1-pcs-Aluminium-Foil-Duct-Repairs-Adhesive-Sealing-Tape-Thermal-Resist-Resistant-Foil-Adhesive-Repair-Tools/32816460384.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.LhMAPE
Buy you a portable fume hood from TCP global. They are $69.00 right now. Been using one for several years now.
Put a backwards fan in your window.
looking amazing! I might have to give this one a try. keep cranking out amazing projects please
This stuff is not any good takes.to much time to apply.this why the make paint
As soon as paint actualy looks like metal. Let me know ;)
Excellent work. I use your one piece method and it is much easier. Thanks.
Could you just make a template out of masking tape, and cut it more accurately out of the backing paper. Then there would be smaller pieces left for smaller details? Or does the masking tape ruin the foil? I'm interested trying this, since I've done all the chrome details with molotow liquid chrome marker. Works really good on larger surfaces like wheel lips and headlight reflectors. But on window trims, you need masking and all that stuff to make a straight line with marker. Is the foil very fragile, can I just cut thin strips out of it to apply on straight lines?
The foil is fragile and easily nicked/ripped. So masking directly on the foil could damage it. Thin strips can be cut, yes
LIKE THAT KEEP IT UP WINDER GA
great video very instructional like the way you applied the bare metal foil it has always been a problem for me when it comes to putting the blade on paint and you do it so effortlessly
Another Great build that is progressing. Been subbed and watching your videos for a while now. Keep up the great work.
Great idea, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for all the hints you showed, using one sheet. This video will be my reference for foiling window frames; I'm interested in a how-to for headlight and taillight frames.
What color is that paint?
Porsche dark olive
@@TheScalemodelingChannel 🔥 thank you
May I ask what brand of knife are you using? Thank you.
Does clear coating the foil in gloss make it more chrome like?
No, not at all. Just protects it.
Since it is real metal. You can gently polish it to make it more shiny
Absolutely going to try this on my bug project. Great tip using one piece.
How did you do the Porsche lettering on the back?
You made this look easy. Fantastic skills!
Nicely done! you are very dexterous. Refreshingly nice choice of music, a pleasure to watch!
Could you tell me how thick is the metal foil without the protective paper? Thànks
Fractions of a millimeter
Thanks for the fast answer. Is that where I live there are almost no hobby stores, so I will have to think in a way to make with aluminum paper...
So much easier than using multiple pieces like I've been trying.
What flavor of bare metal foil do you recommend for auto trim around the windshield and windows?
Thanks, George
new improved chrome
Great video! Always wanted to use this stuff but never have. I assume you do all your clear coating and buffing before applying the BMF? You probably never want to clear coat over it, right?
You can clear over it. I preffer not to as it will look a bit more realistic without clear from my experiance.
Very Cool!
Very nice and informative. Thank you.
💯🔥🔥🔥🤯🤯🤯
What's the brand of your cutter? It's extremely sharp, amazing.
tamiya
hi, love your videos!! anyway, will like to ask. as mention in the video the tin foil are made from real metal. so do it rust if I wash it?
I have never washed it. But im pretty sure it will not rust
thank you very much for the info .
I save the spare chrome for small masking
Great vídeo! Where can i get It ?
could you also do one about fender wells
I live in Poland, or if I would like to buy something in your shop, will the parcel arrive in Poland?
PS: Very nice film :)
Yes, you can select shipping to poland on my site. Shipping will cost €24.-
;_; So much? Here is another currency, Polish zloty, of course this is not real gold xd. 1EUR = 4zł ;/ A lot of xd
do you clear over the foil ? or is this after you already painted and cleared the body ?
You can do either
thanks. Very usefull.
I have a question for you please, which method do you prefer the one in the video or the chrome pen that can do the same exact job? I know this video was done over a year ago so I don’t know if the chrome pen was available back then. Thank you
The chrome pen does not do the exact same. Its a different method, that cant be used in the same ways as the foil can. I preffer the foil for these kinds of jobs. The pens for the small details like buttons or highlight pieces around a model.
The Scalemodeling Channel , What is the name of this foil I’ve tried to find it but haven’t been able to find it and what is best to use? Thank you
BMF
I love that paint. What is it?
Porsche Dark olive
aluminum tape use on duct work can also get the same result hardware store might have it for cheaper.......
Sure could, though its a lot thicker ;)
Was thinking the same thing but thought it might be too thick! Gonna give it a try since I have some on hand. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
That looks awesome!
When you drill holes in the body and mirrors to attach them, do you prefer wire rod, or styrene to join them
I just use what i have at hand. either one works just fine.
The Scalemodeling Channel Thanks. I pretty much got back into modelling after a 15 year break because of watching your Channel. I'm twice your age, but I've learned a lot from your videos. Keep up the good work. Used to spend a lot of time in Holland, I work for a Dutch company called Océ based in Venlo.
starting to look really good already
Thank you very much for this tutorial !!
I would like to know what could be the best to remove the (glue) residue from the bare metal foil without damaging the paint?
A micro fiber towel will do the job most of the time
Ok cool thanks for the tip!
Take care !
Thanks for sharing!
You need to stock this on your website :P great tutorial, thank you!
MoD1982 i do. But my supplier has not had them in stock for a while :(
I was confused, because you list several other items that are out of stock, yet I only saw gold foil. I shall keep my eyes peeled for this being returned to stock, hehe
You make it look so easy lol.
Wondering if you've tried the chrome pen yet and your thoughts if you have?
I have in the final part of this build series. Works just fine.
I see that now lol. I've always struggled with BMF. Just wondering if the pen is easier/better
BMF is cleaner and easier for big peaces. The pen is easy for small parts
I just bought two sheets of BMF and it has been a complete nightmare. I have tried your method and various other methods around the web and the only problem I have is that the foil does not stick to my models. I tried with the model painted. I tried with the paint removed. I tried with primer only. Nothing seems to work. I am starting to think that I just got two bad sheets of this thing. Any suggestions? Please!!!!
Is is the new improved chrome?
Thank you for the prompt reply !! NO. It is the one labeled 'Ultra Bright CHROME'. I just tried the second sheet today and still no adhesion whatsoever. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong.
The new improved chrome sticks 10 times better ;)
Thank you kindly Sir. I will give it a try.
Maybe it was on the shelf long enough to dry out. 🏍
nice!!!
Very well presented!
Neat.
En waarom niet met een chrome stift van Molotow?
Omdat dat niet mooi blijft als je er met je vingers aan zit.
Happy Easter!
Awesome!
Alguien mas viene por Un Poco de Todo?
?
Thanks ;)
