The Matt Damon cameo happened because the screenwriters of EuroTrip were his college friends and asked him to appear in their film while he was in Prague shooting another movie

This film is seriously underappreciated. I know it's silly and all that but it's just a step above the usual fare in this category. I've seen it several times and I still laugh every time Coop is talking to his boss on the phone. It's such a good bit. I heard people still download "Scotty Doesn't Know" from their favorite platform.

Totally agree. It's not just a raunchy comedy, it's warm and has a lot of heart. Underneath all the raunchy stuff and the comedy it's the story of a group of friends going all out to help and support another friend.

That’s the beauty of movies from this era. I can watch them several times and they still crack me up. Maybe i’m wrong but i’ve yet to see a movie more than once that’s been released in the last 5-10 years. There might be a few outliers but overall, this era of movie is kind of a magical time with regard to comedy and pushing boundaries.

Eurotrip is an odd duck in that it falls into the company of the "raunchy sex comedy" revival of the late 90s/early 00s, but it doesn't hang the majority of its identity on that like the others do. It's got the most broadly offensive stereotypes of all those films, but it's also the least malicious or meanspirited in that regard. It's often thought of as simple "dumb" comedy, but it's far smarter in its set-up and delivery than people give it credit for.
For my money, it's head and shoulders above the pack... and it stands up 20 years later so much better than the rest. Infinitely more quotable, too.

I rewatched this movie recently. Still hilarious 20 years later! They don't make them like this anymore, I mean, some of the stuff you couldn't get away with in today's world

A classic. One of my favorite comedies of all time. Just has a lot of nostalgia for me with people I don't see or talk to anymore.

I was a junior in high school when this came out, and my buddy was a BIG fan of EuroTrip. He was a fan of Michelle Trachtenberg (Girl twin) who was known mostly for being in Buffy the Vampire Slayer back then.
Definitely a lot of great cameos (Fred Armisen is the creepy Italian guy from SNL and now Portlandia), Kristin Kreuk was Scottie's cheating girlfriend known for Smallville, and Matt Damon with one of the most random cameos of all time, haha. Funniest part is that he had LITERALLY just done Bourne Identity two years prior, so to see him in this role, was even more hilarious than it is seeing it today.
Lastly, it was cool to see a little bit of Jeffrey Tambor (Scottie's dad) who is best known these days for the show Arrested Development, but has been a great comedic actor since the early 80s. I'm partial to his work too because he went to my alma mater--San Francisco State University :)

Matt Damon only ended up in the movie cuz a few of the screenwriters were buddies of his from college. I believe he was in town to film something else (can't remember the movie) and they figured he would be perfect for a cameo. They were shocked he said yes given how busy he was but he was excited about it.

There's something about it that just seems more genuine than most other raunch coms. Even though the core four each have some stiffness in their performances, they really do seem to just be having a good time teasing and supporting each other, so it's got heart. They tried just enough but not too hard to make the plot make sense, so it's unpretentious but not just random. And the comedy somehow struck a great balance of iconic jokes and lines and scenes and cameos, and plenty of dumb stuff, so it ends up being super easy to laugh at and have a fun time.

3:34 Mark! Howdy! 🤠 It is still oð for me to hear young American couples and young American people in general, talking about their civilian life experiences in Europe or even Asia, when I'm used to the anecdotes of my family's military experiences on both continents. Heck, I was born in Seoul, South Korea, thanks to my mother being one of the lical native girls whom Dad wasn't supposed to fraternize with! 😮

Other films similar to this I recommend watching include Road Trip and Tomcats. The actress playing Jenny, Michelle Trachtenberg, is also in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Inspector Gadget. The actor playing Cooper is also in The Pacific. The opening song is a French dubbed version of "My Generation" by Jet. The Madame is played by Lucy Lawless, who's also starred in Xena: Warrior Princess and Spartacus. The lead hooligan is played by Vinnie Jones, who's also in The Condemned, which I recommend watching

Matt Damon has explained why he did the cameo in EuroTrip. The main reasons were:
1.) Personal connections: The movie was written by three of his college friends from Harvard - Alec Shaffer, Jeff Berg, and Dave Mandell.
2.) Convenient timing: Damon was already in Prague filming "The Brothers Grimm" when EuroTrip was being shot there.
3.) Fun opportunity: His friends asked if he would play "a Henry Rollins kind of insane, bad version of a suburban punk band guy" and Damon agreed.
4.) Family affair: Damon considered it a "family affair" as he had multiple connections to the project, including his college roommate appearing as the guitarist in the band.
5.) Willingness to commit to the role: Damon even allowed them to shave his head for the part, as he was wearing a wig for "The Brothers Grimm" anyway.

Eurotrip is one of my favorite all-time movies. As others have no doubt pointed out Matt Damon went to college with, and was good friends with, the writers of the movie. He happened to be in Prague filming another movie when Eurotrip was being filmed there and so they talked him into the cameo. I have a friend from work who was going to a multi-day music festival in Europe with her husband and they made sure to also stop off in Bratislava because of her husband's love of the movie. This movie is so well done, I will never stop laughing at it.
