Linda's not a primary rock vocalist like JJ or Ann Wilson, but (along with her exceptionally pure, powerful voice) crosses over into more genres than either aforementioned vocalists could (pop, country, folk, ballads, jazz standards, opera, latin, etc) which, for me, makes her 1 of the most outstanding vocalists of this & the last century 👍

Yo Biz , you know by now I always got you covered. So you wanna hear Ms. Ronstadt do a little "rock n roll" ??? Then check out her cover of one of your favorite bands. She does an incredible version of Tumbling Dice by The Stones. You'll totally dig' it ( live or studio, , your choice).

Check out Linda’s cover of Living In the USA. She performs with Chuck Berry and Keith Richards, on PBS years ago. That Chuck Berry show is worth reacting to.

This lady has always had those pipes that hit the notes every time. Surprisingly, I've never heard this song before. I enjoyed it! She's got some rock n roll in her but she's got many genre's. Yes, I believe in love at first sight.

She started out country. I watched her singing with Dolly Parton on the Porter Wagoner Show.

I say it all the time, but when Linda covers a song, she makes it her own. So fine!

Both Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris said Linda was a perfectionist. Always felt she could do better. Listen to Linda, Dolly & Emmylou songs from Trio & Trio 2. They have great harmonies together....ANGELS.

She was heavily involved in the country/rock movement of the 1965 to late 70s era. These were artists who liked both and melded them together

Wait until you hear her sing in Spanish and hear the real power of her voice. La Charreada or La Cigarra.

I kinda liked that syncopated guitar at the end; something different in an otherwise vanilla-simple song. Generally, her backup musicians are extremely competent, but generally not too out there - it's understandably about showcasing, not showing up, her awesome talent.

    Love her with mad respect!
She's not a rock artist. I'm totally with you. I never understood the misplaced label. Maybe it's that all the rock stars loved her (see Mick Jagger) =) and, everyone knew her name in the Blue Bayou days. Magazine covers definitely, including the occasional teen mag, the gambit of radio stations. I was 7 and I knew her, all of her songs and of the wonderful photographs by legend Annie Leibowitz (check her work out, a treat yourself when you have some down time).
I'd go with Linda is the first lady of country rock ~ it makes musical history sense also. I think the only other artist that could give her a run for the title is Dolly Parton. Love Dolly, of course. Linda is either the hands down winner or amazing runner-upper of The First Lady of Country Rock!
    Take care❤️☮️
    What do you think?
Also, is Dolly the Mother of or First Lady of something? She has to be, right? I must investigate later and hold a rally if she's not

I think Linda would resist being put into a category - exept maybe Mexicana - her roots and the wellspring of her musical passion. She did immense honor to the Mexican tradition with those albums, singing those songs which were nearest and fearest to her heart. ❤

You owe it to yourself to check out Doris Troy's 1963 original version of "Just One Look" for contrast. Ronstadt preserves the arrangement, mostly, but she turns the slightly funky swing of the original from the sixties into a fifties style rock and roll song with a slightly country twang towards at the end when she's really belts out the chorus. She's awesome, no doubt, and she rocks the song to its core. But she also rolls it too. Listen to the original for contrast and you might get why she gets included in the rock and roll conversation. But it depends on what rock and roll means to you. When you take rock and roll as it was in the late fifties, early sixties, before the Marshall stack was invented, she's way more rock and roll than Joan Jett. But when what you know as rock and roll comes from after that, from music made with 100 watt amps, overdriven distortion, reverb, and wah-wah pedals, then Joan Jett would be more rock and roll. But notice how you referred to the music as rock, rock music, and rock and roll. The roll in rock and roll got lost somewhere in the seventies. But not for long as American Grafitti sparked a revival and the death of Elvis fueled it and Linda Ronstadt and The Rolling Stones and others reminded us that we liked it.

Why don’t you listen to one of the only songs she wrote herself? It is “Try Me Again “. She was too shy to perform it in concert, but it is included on her album Hasten Down The Wind.

Tell the kids in 1963 who were listening to the Doris Troy version that this is not rock and roll. Their parents were listening to Benny Goodman swing music. This is rock and roll in its infancy. No it's not Rock. 2 different things. A little historical context goes a long way
