  • Happy Spring!
    I wanted to record a video of my carnivorous plant collection. My collection includes Dionaea Muscipula, Sarracenia, Pinguicula, Sundews and Utriculatias. Dormancy is over and my plants will begin to grow larger traps and flowers. My carnivorous plants were purchased from california carnivorous, the FlytrapStore, Jeremiah carnivorous plants, pet flytrap and from the SCCPE sales. Hope you enjoy.

    Wow you have so many carnivorous plants! Your collection is amazing! It's really nice to see so many of them at different stages of growth and also hear you talking about them and explaining stuff. This is my first time seeing a venus flytrap with a large stem and smaller off shoots. I just got my first order in from CA Carnivores and I'm hoping that I'l be able to keep them healthy. Thanks for your really detailed video!

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I love california carnivores! ive purchased a lot of my plants from them. You will see them come out of dormancy in spring im sure the plant you just purchased is still dormant. Even my large plants look small right now since they are all dormant

      I purchased my first flytrap in 2020 and I've been obsessed since. 😅 I've been doing research and joined a local carnivorous plant group. So I've slowly purchased these plants in the past two years

    Your plants look way bigger than mine. As soon as my plants went into dormancy they shrunk to abut 1-2" and during season they were actually full grown weird that mine got so small

    • @xxdemonicaxxofficial
      @xxdemonicaxxofficial  2 роки тому

      My plants are starting to come out of dormancy. Venus Flytraps go dormant during winter. They'll lose their long/large traps and produce smaller/low hugging traps and during this time the plants store their energy in the rhizome. Spring is here though so you should begin to see your plant producing larger traps now :)

    • @samuelruiz7377
      @samuelruiz7377 2 роки тому

      @@xxdemonicaxxofficial My plants lost almost all their traps had like 2 leafs left then most of them died back to the ryzome. The previous years they just got smaller like you said but this year they all died back to the ryzome and I thought I lost them all.

    • @xxdemonicaxxofficial
      @xxdemonicaxxofficial  2 роки тому

      @@samuelruiz7377 did you reduce the amount of water during dormancy? They dont require as much water and its okay to allow the trays to dry in between. Too much water may produce root rot. I have a short video on what my plants look like during dormancy. Some looked dead because the larger traps turned black.

    how do you prevent the rain messing with the soil? i hate putting sphagnum moss on top

    • @xxdemonicaxxofficial
      @xxdemonicaxxofficial  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, I honesly think its all a matter of whether your plants are freshly repotted or not. The water trays will always be messy after some rain. In the past I had issues with the perlite getting everywhere, so I added a thin coat of only peat moss over all my pots. It seems to work for me but with this week's rain the soil got everywhere and I'm assuming it's due to a fresh repot. Normally the top layer of peat moss will harden a bit so when it rains the media will stay in place. Hope this helps..

    • @nealsausen4651
      @nealsausen4651 2 роки тому

      Putting Sphagnum moss As a top layer is always a good idea as the moss retains water which keeps the plant moist And helps to keep the under soil wet as well! At least that’s been my experience!

    Great video, what a collection! Love the skeleton pointer and music. Do you have an ROI system for watering?

    • @xxdemonicaxxofficial
      @xxdemonicaxxofficial  2 роки тому

      HAHA thank you! :) I collect rain water when we do get rain here in socal and purchase distilled water when I run out. In the future I do plan on setting up a reverse osmosis system because it can get expensive especially if I add more plants to my collection.
