    Do you let them constantly just be in a water dish? :)

      Thanks for stopping by. I fill up the trays about an inch deep. Let the water sit until dried up. I won’t water for a few days, no more than a week. Then I will repeat the cycle.

    Is it possible to keep pings like a normal houseplant? ie not in a tub of water?

    • @mypingtopia
      @mypingtopia  2 місяці тому +2

      Hi there, thanks for watching my video. Unfortunately not, carnivorous plants need certain conditions to thrive. Yes, you can treat them like houseplants, but they won’t survive for long. If you’re looking for longevity, my care guide gives you the base foundation for their care.

      @@mypingtopia That would be the conventional wisdom. I'm trying to find the driest carnivorous plant possible. I asked chat gpt and it said mexican pings would be a good candidate, but I'll listen to you over the AI! Could the driest carnivorous plant actually be a pitcher plant?

      @jimmygreenspan8832 Pitcher plants do not like sitting in water like other carnivorous plants, and can tolerate less watering. So essentially, they are the "driest" of the carnivorous plants as you described it. Lol. It also depends on which species as well. Yeah, the constant watering, almost daily, is a bit much.

    When they go into dormancy, what are the care directives?

    • @mypingtopia
      @mypingtopia  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for stopping by. Very good question about dormancy. Typically, I stop watering when a ping goes dormant. This will last for several months or longer. The pot will be bone dry during this time. When I see the ping starting to wake up like new leaves come out from the crown, then I’ll introduce some water then slowly add more water over time.

    Do you think it is possible to plant pings in coco soil? Unfortunately, sphagnum moss is ridiculously hard to get in my area 😵‍💫

      I haven’t tried coco coir, but the top soil for pings if you can get is pumice, vermiculite and peat moss. You can put coco coir under this mix to prevent the soil from being overly wet. You just want the top soil to be moist, not wet.

    If the ping is in hybration then how often should i water and fertilize?

    • @mypingtopia
      @mypingtopia  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for stopping by. When I have pings that go dormant seeing it transform into a tight rosette. That is typically when you can stop watering. Let the tray or however you are watering dry out. This may be for a couple months. You will then notice after those couple months, new leaves will start to form from the crown, which is a sign your ping is waking up. Then, once several of those leaves are popping out. I would then start the watering cycle again. TY!

    • @mypingtopia
      @mypingtopia  7 місяців тому

      Also, you don't need to fertilize until your ping wakes back up.

      Do we leave it in the same place during dormancy?

    can you just use pure sphagnum moss? i've see people do that?

    • @mypingtopia
      @mypingtopia  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you can use pure sphagnum moss. I've done it when I first started to collect pings. Though, you have to keep in mind the mositure/wetness factor. Sphag moss will aborb water very well like a sponge, which can be too wet for pings. When it dries, sphag moss is very dry, which you may need to monitor more often. That was my main reason moving away from sphag moss as the only substrate to grow pings.
