Going out there and experiencing delivery is the only way to decide if its for you. Personally I do Postmates and it has Pros and Cons and sometimes you'll be surprised what people tip. Humble people tip more and the rich are greedy......this weekend I took a delivery to a Mansion in San Marino for a $128 worth of food and my tip was $0.00. Then 3 days after I delivered an order worth $20 to an apt and my tip was $15.

Exactly, That's why I don't bother giving rich people rides in any of their areas. Grandma's tip better

$15 tip for $20 doesnt seem normal. Maybe that customer felt guilty or something. Maybe it was their first time using postmates and they probably felt bad for someone to do their work. Maybe they are old and dont know that such delivery things are common etc.
However 0 tip for $128 sucks. they should give you anywhere from 10%-20% tip at least.

That's a narrow statistic though. I don't believe that all don't tip but it all depends on the personality as well of that person.

In the last 3 months I've done about 350 food deliveries with Postmates, around 100 ubereats, about 100 uberx rides and about 50 Lyft rides. My conclusion is food delivery with Postmates is probably the best out of the bunch. I usually make a little more money and put on about 25% less miles on my car to make the same amount of money. Only about 10% of Uber eats orders tip, Postmates is closer to 50% . When all said and done, you don't have to deal with people in your car, get some exercise and don't have to worry about someone throwing up in your car .

      @mikegarcia4231 5 років тому +1

Except when they don’t tip and in my city it’s nowhere near 50%. Then you’re stuck with a 4$ delivery driving 15 miles total

Passengers require too much butt kissing. I do delivery it is fewer miles to drive and no one gets in my car then stabs me in the back with rating

But does doordash require heavy lifting? I do uber, and have considered doing doordash, but I have a bad back (car accident). So I can’t lift heavy things. A friend of mine who did doordash and uber told me uber is easier since you don’t have to get out of the car and doordash you have to do more physical work. Is that true?

I've been doing rideshare for a few years. And Uber-eats for 2 years, postmates, doordash for a few months.
The downside of rideshare is that you never know what kind of people you will have in the car and what you will have to deal with (drunk, crazy, selfish, bossy), all kinds of people gets in your car, sometimes they vomit, or spill stuff in the car, or they want you to go somewhere else, or they bring extra people, etc. So that probably gets you more frustrated and more risky in that sense. So that's how I took interest in food delivery.
Now for the delivery. It's good that you don't have anyone else in your car. You can bring another person with you. Talk on the phone or listen whatever you want on the radio (in my case podcasts, language courses, or audiobooks etc). So it's a little bit more free.
But on the bad side, it is as you described. I sincerely feel that food delivery is way underpaid, for what you have to do.
When you get a delivery you drive to the restaurant of place where you need to pick up the food. Many times you will not find parking. So you have to park far away or park illegally somewhere. This is very risky because anything can happen to your car. I got a $100 ticket for stopping near a hydrant (it was the only choice I had), and I was out in 1 min with a ticket already. That $100 you can guess you won't even make it on your whole day of work.
Now for what I expect of delivery food person is just arrive at the restaurant and pick up the food. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Uber-eats is like that but the other companies not.
Doordash and postmates send you a card so I can pay for the meal. I thought that was the only thing but then I realize that those orders where you have to use the card to pay they have no idea of that order, so you have to show up at the restaurant and make the line, pay and wait for the food. Those order the food will never be ready for you when you arrive because you have to order, they have no idea of that order. Some restaurants of course take their time to make the food.
Yesterday I got a postmates delivery, it was 8 or 9 min away driving. I got to the place and there was no parking, so I made a U turn and parked 2 blocks away illegally on a construction site no parking zone. After entering the restaurant I had to order some food, and pay with the card, they told me 15 to 20 minutes wait. So I waited, it took them 25 min. I went to the car and drove to the customer address 7 min away. That whole delivery probably took me 45 min. I got $3.75, for that delivery. And well, praying for some tips but never came.
Another thing is when dropping up the food sometimes is not that easy, some places are buildings and you have to go through concierge or security then go up make a few turns and find that room, many times you have to walk several apartment complexes to reach the place to drop off the food. Imagine the feeling while you are doing that when you know you parked illegally.
And on food delivery you have to keep in touch with the customer because many times you have to order food for them and they the restaurant don't have something they order. So you need to ask the customer if that's ok, and sometimes they want you go order that somewhere else. I had to go separate restaurants because that restaurant don't have certain items the customer wants.
On the rideshare side, you only stop the car for a few seconds until the person gets in, so no need to park. You can park illegally as long as you are inside the car, because you can move at any second. Same with the drop off, even easier, just wait for the person to exit your car and close the door. That's it!
So I feel that ridesharing you have a great time picking up and dropping off customers, while sometimes not so great while the customers are there, you sometimes want to drop them off as fast as possible, and hope they didn't mess up your car. But not much hard work besides driving. While doing rideshare I'm good with the money I got from the ride, so tips is something extra that I don't expect sometimes. Even though I let them play their music, give them water and helps them in whatever they need, make a good conversation, be kind and understanding, etc. Most don't tip. But I don't do it for the tips.
And delivery you have such a great time while driving to deliver the food. But not great picking the food up or dropping it off. Also a lot more work than driving. So it feels that you need tips from almost every trip to make it worthy, you rely a lot on tips. And not many people tip. They expect that the money you got from the drive to drop their food is your pay. Even though you have been in touch with them about the time wait for the food at the restaurant, get them extra sauce, utensils, napkins, brought the food to their door warm as fast as you could. They tip a little more than rideshare but in this you are require to get tips 85% of the time to make a profit. (I feel).
How do you deal with the "go in and pay with the card" thing for delivery?? SOOOO UNFAIR.

I got deactivated from Doordash after a year. Im on Uber Eats now. Mileage wayyy too much. $3 deliveries. One customer that doesnt tip ruins the whole thing. Its pretty damn terrible. Ive been an active Lyft driver for over a year. I rarely ever do it. They ALL suck equally. Any job is better. ANY job. Let that sink in, people.

Another advantage of delivery over rideshare is the restaurant is easier to navigate to than the passenger. We've had that pax that types in the wrong address or drops the pin in the wrong location. Or the GPS says, "you've arrived" and you're still on the freeway.

Problem people have with ridesharing is they spend alot of time dead driving...drop off passengers and go chill in a parking lot for 20-30 min...if u dont get a ride move to another parking lot. Eventually u will get something. Dont spend too much time driving without passengers

Ubereats in my area is a joke really, not worth it. To really earn money with it I would have to go to a different county 30 minutes away. Same with GrubHub I really like this one but again no worth it unless can work at least 8-9 day. Now doordash on the other hand gets 10 stars in my book I really enjoy and prefer them overall. I rather do delivery over rideshare anyday. Great video.

Big affluent suburbs with mostly houses is where you wanna do eats. I dunno how you did 17 miles for only 7 dollars. You must be including dead miles to the restaurant. You need to stay in restaurant hot spots and not deadhead unless you end up sent way out somewhere.

If you get long drives you make more with rideshare, if you get a high surge you can make more with rideshare, at other times delivery is better. Delivery you can have far smaller expenses than for rideshare, for instance for delivery I use a smart car 36 miles per gallon got it for 6000 after tax and fees

Tony Conner I don’t think so. But I’m always dashing on scheduled shifts and I “pause” my dash when I take something through another company. Between the 5 apps, I’m almost always getting a ping within 5 minutes of turning them all on all day long

Thanks for easy breakdown of our options, I strive for a minimum of $1.00 per mile on my food deliveries... I just started 2 weeks ago and completed 174 orders. keep in mind, I started @ the beginning to middle of the covid-19/social distancing / huge uptick in demand! Curious to see how this algorithm and pay structure continues to balance out as demand may fall off after people start going back to work... PS. Doordash 95%, Postmates 4.9% and Rhody less than 1%

Here in Phoenix it doesn’t surge or prime time that much so rideshare driving could put a lot more miles on ur vehicle versus with amazon flex or Grubhub I’ve compared the two between deliveries and ridesharing and I put a lot more miles doing rideshare!!

Having done both, this is an excellent summation. I have experimented with all of the delivery services in my market. I have found a company that I like to work with. I would add one thing about ratings for delivery: making sure hot food is delivered hot. One thing about the delivery services, only Caviar, takes distance to restaurant and wait time into accounts. Most services pay only after order is picked up. Uber Eats does a an excellent job of breaking the fare down. My issue is that you never know how much you are going to make on the delivery.

  • @Gdecorse

Funny but my passengers rarely smell bad. But unfortunately the food rarely smells either. I have never ever found delivering food to be more profitable but I have never worked multiple companies. I have driven food because I didnt' want to do passengers because I wanted to stare at my Ipad. But I much prefer passengers. I really enjoy it.

  • @BrianRadcliffe

UberEats doesn't pay time and doesn't really pay distance. It pays what their algorithm says the distance should be, a pick up fee, and a drop of fee. Here in the Orlando market after Uber collects their fees its $2.08 to pick up $0.96 to drop off and $0.80 per mile of how many miles they say it should be not actual mileage.

I HATED driving for Lyft. I prefer Uber. Lyft doesn't even have Live customer service. 🤦🏾. Also, their platform is unfair and biased. They will cancel...CANCEL your ride request, if their app doesn't think you'll make it to your rider on time....after you've begin driving to their destination!! 😠. What a Scam! Ridiculous! I applied, was approved, in 36 hours, and Quit. All within 48 hours lol. Smh Uber for the win! For those reading this: Do both Uber eats and Uber X. Sit down, write out your financial plan, and plug it into their built in Goal meter. Research which area, in your town has big delivery demands. You can make 1,000/week working 12hrs/day with Uber eats, plus tips! Figure out how many hours you want to work per week and you'll reach your goal.
