    If they say they'll tip you in the app, just tell them to save the money and use it to pay for another Uber. This will usually piss them off since they were never going to tip you anyway.

    Oh jeez. I was in an Uber express pool. We picked her up at her place. After about a minute she asked if we could stop for a coffee. The driver was really nice and asked me if it was okay. I thought that was weird and pretty rude to ask in a pool - so I kinda laughed and said sorry I'm on my way to work and don't want to be late. The driver then offered to take her to a coffee shop after dropping me off. Gave him a tip for that, because he was way nicer than I would have been in his shoes, and she did not seem like she would tip. I wish we could rate our co-riders!!!

    The worst is the late night drive thru request. My rule is this, if they don't offer to buy me anything or do not tip, I leave a one star rating. I also explain this in the comments so that Lyft/Uber is aware that drivers need to be better compensated for these type of request.

    This just happened to me. I took someone with Lyft to Dominos and they didn't even order in advance. I waited about ten minutes and the passenger seemed less concerned. I cancelled the ride instead of ending it so the passenger can't rate me and called Lyft telling them that my passenger disappeared at the first stop. Got paid for the one way ride.

    I found myself in this situation after 5 days "earning" with uber. Rider wanted me to stop off at the dollar store so he could pick up some bathroom tissue.😕 I noticed he was extremely comfortable asking me to do all this run'n round for him. I also notice he never offered any extra incentive for my "helping a brother out". I had to let him know upfront in the same casual comfortable tone. "That part ain't set in my destination bruh." I drop him off @ the set destination and probably got the same rating if i would've stopped and waited. The rider is cutting into the drivers pocket when they ask for these extra stops y'all. Tell the rider without apology that extra upfront stops I require extra up front incentive. No app tips upfront tips for upfront stops. That's only if you feel like it. The driver is always in control after all it is the drivers vechile right? There is no benefits when you doubt. Stay safe think smart and make money. All at the same time.......Least thats what i practice when "earning" with my partners. Cheers!!!🐣🐥

    Thanksgiving day. Girl took 5 min to come out. Asked to stop for a bottle of wine. I said sure, you going take care of me? She said she would. Took over 5 min in the liquor store. Her destination was not the destination, it was picking someone else up. She didn't know the next address (it was 3 min away from there). New person took over 5 min to come down. She got there. We took off. During all of this I turned down 4 surge rides, all over 2.2. She was no surge no boost. Drop em off, nothing. The problem is you give them the benefit of the doubt and they keep stringing you along. 2 stops, waited way too long at the 3 stops (including initial pu) passed up juicy surges and the biggest: it was Thanksgiving Day! How can you not tip on TD and with all those extra requests?!? 4.94 rating, water, super clean car, I get around a 10% tip rate. I give every human being the benefit of the doubt, but truly 90% of Uber riders are weasels.

      It’s because you asked, it’s very in professional to a lot of people to actually solicit a tip that would be like if you asked your waitress to get you an extra refill when she asked you are you going to take care of me for it? Most people would be pissed at that point. Personally, I actually have a policy with myself that I don’t ever leave extra money for somebody who asked for it ever just for that reason, if they didn’t ask and then he just expected to do that as part of the job to be a nice person then yes but if somebody asks just instantly ruins it. And I think a lot of people have this way of thinking to be honest

They are scamming you and whose to say they'll actually do it when they allegedly agree to tip you?? There's no guarantee period. Drive thru at 1 AM when the downtown area is surging at 200-300% is cutting into YOUR WALLET, you only have so much time to make that money that justifies sacrificing your weekend don't let some fare ruin that for you. You let em know this is your money time when you make yours at the end of the night. You're providing a cheaper than cab service. They can request another rider to take them through drive thru.

    I was only driving for Uber for two days before I discovered this B.S. loophole that many people take advantage of so they can save money at your expense, i.e. making you do round-trips. The only solution is to ask people to update their destination just before they arrive at the first drop-off spot, but people will claim they can't do so because they don't have their cell phones with them, or they don't have Internet access on the go, etc., Uber needs to address this and do something about it! Imagine driving three miles out of your way to pick up some old lady to who wants you to drive her a half-mile to the supermarket and wait for her for a half-hour just so you can make $3.

    As an Uber driver ,I always rating those kind of the nice humble riders 5 stars if they are friendly and socialize with a sense of hummer by joking and having a small chatting with the riders trying not ignoring them if they want to talk which make me fill having good time doing my job keeping entertained getting treated as a spacial super star which make me so excited and also keeping our vehicle clean with no mess or damages or eating and drinking inside .However;I usually rating for those the riders with 2 or 3 stars being formal rude and jerks being arrogant acting like they are bossy treating the drivers as a slave especially if they jumped to my car asking me to take them to their destination without saying "Hello" and also if they are not talkative being so quite during the trip entertaining themselves by texting or talking on the cell or people and also if they are talking among to each other ignoring me instead of chatting with me which is really awkward and super rude ,getting frustrating and makes me feel like a machine doing my job which not nice at all to be rude and disrespectful with no reason .Also the need to understand Uber is a community service not like a taxi cab service taking them from point A to B making a space between the riders and drivers. Also it's very annoying ,super awkward and very rude when they ask the driver turning on the radio very loud beside ignoring the drivers chatting among to each other so that they deserve 1 or two stars for misbehave with no respect for the friendly Uber drivers and their vehicle. Also those passengers should kick out of the Uber service if they tried forcing us by those jerks rude riders as a drivers to risk our self breaking the traffic law no matter what if you loaded more than the limit of the passenger inside our vehicle or asking us for parking on the illegal spot and they don't care if we got pulled by the police and getting a citation or our vehicle got towed for parking on illegal spot and those kind of sick passengers don't care if you lost your job .

    +The Rideshare Guy
    This video, among many others, have helped me so much as a driver. Communication is very important especially when handling these types of situations in a professional manner. Recently Lyft has made it possible for riders to add stops which can help out a little bit. However when this situation arises I always set a ground rule of 5 minutes and make sure I get their verbal confirmation before they get out of the car. After that I will wait 5 minutes and then call them. If they don't answer I will call again and leave a text. If they still do not answer then I will complete the ride but every rider has responded by the second time. If you are worried about them rating you poorly you can always take screen shots and write a fare review. It's important to be professional but stand your ground because you can lose a lot of money by just sitting around. Riders can take advantage of you (even unknowingly) if you are "nice" and sit/wait for them.

If it is going to be over a few minutes (run into convince store) or if that stop is not on the direct route then I ask them to add their requested stop as an additional stop on their trip. That way I get paid to go out of my way, if not on direct route, or i get a little additional due to the added stop.

    @ArcWarrior 6 років тому +2

    Well, in Los Angeles Lyft doesn't pay for time anymore. They only pay time for the first 5 minutes that you're waiting for the passenger. They're keeping this very non-transparent. Call Lyft and ask them. So if you wait for a rider, you get paid $0.00. Lyft needs to pay their drivers. Also, if you're a private contractor, YOU should control the price. So if someone goes through a drive-thru, you should have the ability in the App to charge them, let's say, $2 per minute. You shouldn't have to wait to get a tip from them and risk not getting paid and risk missing out during the surge.

    Lyft Drivers:
    If you don't want to wait, there is no reason to cancel the ride. I had a passenger that wanted me to wait while they did their grocery shopping. The wait time was not acceptable so I made the mistake and cancelled the ride. Because I cancelled, I lost payment. Lyft's instructions are that I should have selected "Ready to Go" then immediately selected "Drop off" to remove the second stop and end the ride. A message should then be sent to Lyft indicating why the distance/time of the trip didn't match what was requested.

    Good advice. I do a certain version of this. It depends on surge and how far they're going. If its a 10+ mile ride at over 2X, I'll pull in the drive thru. No prob. But if its midtown-downtown, nah. Not waiting. Also depends on the passenger and how they ask. Many times it's a "If I buy you a cook out tray, will you take me to cook out on the way home?" If I'm hungry, yeah. If the last riders fed me, I'll tell them that, explain the wait time rate, then leave it up to them to decide whether to tip me in cash or to get another ride after they eat.

    My current Uber rating is 4.81. The Uber Navigation and the Uber Pool are killing me with my rating with unhappy riders. It is my understanding that when my rating goes to 4.6 my account gets closed. It is like I am fighting to earn money for Uber. Lyft might very well be in my future. Your advice is good, you always have to do your best to be polite. Riders will take advantage of you. I don't want to have the camera in my car but some of the animals I pick up are going to force me to install one if that is what it takes to get some of the bad rider behavior to improve.

    How about those who don't know much about Uber and take Pool and want a special request.... I just say you have to take Uber X to change the address or have me wait because other Uber poolers want me to pick them up so I can't. They go quiet and I don't have to give them a yes or no answer. For Uber X I just say, you're not going to be long right?.... I say this in a CYA case kind of way because if you don't show you're not gun-ho about waiting they won't care and just take their sweet time.
    I've NEVER NOT got a tip for waiting for those few that wanted to make me wait.... that says A LOT. Maybe I'm just lucky.... it's like 6 for 6 for me. 100%. So heck let's say in time it averages to 50% in time..... it's worth it. Just make sure you say, "You're not going to take long right?" You're welcome :)
    Oh yeah, and the 16 cents per minute that supposedly is NOT worth it.... my car's off when I'm waiting... I just consider that little extra change as something good for the downtime I waited at one point during the day for having to wait a little bit longer than usual for an earlier request. :)

I didn't mind, I left the app on and I was getting 20 cents a minute, which is equal to $12 an hour and your not going to wait an hour! When she came out I took her back to her dorm! Not a big deal to me since you still get paid and you make the money when you take them back as well! That is just good customer service! I got paid $15 for that trip, so I didn't mind!

How do you handle when the passenger puts in a destination but then (as you are almost there) asks you to drive much further before they are dropped off? I think the passenger's thinking is, I was quoted a certain fee, let's say $8 for a ride, so they try to extend the distance while hoping to only pay $8. Does the app automatically add extra mileage and extra time to the ride when you continue driving past original destination? Thanks for clarifying.

    This happens to me constantly, and I wondered if it's even allowed or if eventually I was going to hear from Uber about picking up, going to destination and returning to pickup spot. It's definitely case by case. I had a guy a week ago, go 20 miles north...wait 15 minutes, go 5 miles south, wait 5, go 40 miles south wait 15, and back about 15 miles back to pickup spot. It was about 2 hours total with one PAX and $100 clean after uber fee. That is OK with me. Other times not so much. Like drive 5 miles, pick up Mom+Kid to drop kid at school, 1.5 miles away, wait while mom is inside talking to the office...15 minutes later, drive her 1.5 miles back home. I think you can't focus on either situation too much, rather just accept both will happen and that's the way it goes.

      It’s really not that cheap anymore, and in case you haven’t noticed that’s why select and black have gone downhill because any person who can afford the select platforms on any kind of a regular basis can afford to employee their own driver directly if you took select several times a week and added that up it would come to weigh more than what it would cost you to just hire somebody to drive you directly personally, for a uberX you should definitely be doing it, I agree if it’s the UberPool that’s not realistic but for anything above that you are their personal driver

      The Rideshare Guy i’ve known of cases were people tried to do that and the customer got a full refund because they complained and explained the situation, it’s also good to keep in mind that all these complaints are handled through the call centers in India and the Philippines where employers take a much more harsh and tough approach to employees, in other parts of the world and employee is expected to be a lot more DOS I’ll and deferential and so you’re complaining to someone in India or the Philippines that your driver didn’t do what you told them to do and they naturally psychologically sympathize with you because over there you would do anything I say and you wouldn’t even think of talking back and that’s just the reality

      armyguy209 no Clickbait troll, unless it is the UberPool it is fully acceptable to want to make stops to pick up people to do whatever. Your personal driver is literally Uber’s motto, the app literally said that across the top for the first several years, that is exactly what it is. As I already said, if somebody is ordering a select or black on a regular basis then it would be more cost-effective to just hire a personal employee from a realistic point of you. Either way, the app is set up with weight times and unless it’s an UberPool if the customer complains the corporation is going to side with the customer if you didn’t wait or want to make some extra stops. Your job is to drive wherever they say to drive. In other countries this isn’t even a topic, it’s just that here in the United States it’s difficult to get employees to except their place but another part of the world but the equivalent wouldn’t even dream of arguing over something like this.

      It sucks when people do that regardless of race, I believe in great CS, but people shouldn't take advantage of you.

      That was exactly what I thought but when I emailed Uber, they replied, it was a flat rate trip.
      Does anyone know how to tell if a trip is flat rate or not?

      Bob Bickford don't think there's a way to know before hand but obviously you'll know after when the trip statement comes back then just make a mental note not to ever pick that person up again an rate low.

    I do this thing where I wait for them & make as many stops as they need.
    It's $24/hr wait time. I'll hang out as long as they want.

    • @allenstevens9943
      @allenstevens9943 3 роки тому

      It is NOT $24 an hour any more. CANCEL all "stop off" rides. You can't live off minimum wage per hour waiting on a STOP OFF.

      @@allenstevens9943 No, it's still $24/hour

    Honestly, you’re their personal driver for that time so that’s your job your job is to drive him wherever they want to go, if it’s for an uber pool then of course not absolutely not, if they’re on pool then you just tell them that you cannot stop anywhere other than the Destiination they put, but if you’re talking about a select platform or even an ex then really that’s your job. And if Uber doesn’t pay you enough for that waiting time then that’s something to address with Uber but that’s not really the customers problem,

    Ask them to take their stuff and end the ride and tell them if you get another call you have to go, but if you don't, you will be there when they get back.
