Not sure if I understood her correctly. Did she say that they have to opt out in order to not have their data trained on? Because I'm pretty sure I had the opt in if I wanted to have my data trained on within chat. GTP.
To be clear, she was referring to OpenAI/ChatGPT customers with that. Apple customers who either are not OpenAI or ChatGPT customers, or who are but never set their Applel device’s OS up to use that account, are never opted in and their data/information will never be used to train ChatGPT’s models. The only time an Apple customer’s data/information may be used to train ChatGPT’s models is if they have a separate account with OpenAI and they sign their Apple device into that account, in which case whatever their opt-in or opt-out status is on their OpenAI/ChatGPT account will also apply to their use of it through their Apple device’s iOS integration. So the possible states are these: 1. Apple user with no OpenAI or ChatGPT account - opted out by default and cannot opt in 2. Apple user with an OpenAI or ChatGPT account who doesn’t sign their Apple device’s OS into that account - they are opted out and cannot opt in just as a normal Apple user in #1 above, but this only applies to data sent to ChatGPT through their Apple device’s own native built-in integration with ChatGPT. Anything else done outside of that integration would have whatever their OpenAI/ChatGPT account was set to applied to it 3. Apple user with an OpenAI or ChatGPT account that’s opted out who signs into their OpenAI/ChatGPT account in their Apple device’s OS integration - they will be opted out because the OpenAI/ChatGPT account they signed in with is opted out, but they can change that in their OpenAI/ChatGPT account and opt in if they want to 4. Apple user with an OpenAI or ChatGPT account that’s opted in who signs into their OpenAI/ChatGPT account in their Apple device’s OS integration - they will be opted in because the OpenAI/ChatGPT account they signed in with is opted in, but they can change that in their OpenAI/ChatGPT account and opt out if they want to Opting in or out is only an option for someone’s own OpenAI/ChatGPT account, and that opt-in or opt-out carries over to their Apple device if they set their device up to use that account instead of the default, free integration provided by Apple. If you either don’t have an OpenAI/ChatGPT account, or if you don’t set your Apple device up to use your OpenAI/ChatGPT account, then you cannot be opted in and you will always be opted out because the free Apple integration does not allow anything you send to ChatGPT to be opted in.

The opting out option sounded a bit vague. I heard that users in general seldom change default settings. Does that mean that OpenAI will train their AI models with data from Apple users unless they opt out? Personally I think it's good for companies to be able to improve their AI models but it has to be very clear how user data is used.
No - that isn’t for Apple customers - that’s for people who already subscribe to ChatGPT and pay for its services outside of Apple’s ecosystem, and the same will be true if they sign in with their OpenAI account on their Apple device instead of using Apple’s own free (but more limited) version of ChatGPT. Apple customers are opted out by default and will remain so. "the board had no accountability to anyone but themselves.. ideally there would be some sort of accountability in the governance structure" proceeds to appoint ex head of the NSA to the board
Open AI with Apple, where you go, what you purchase, what you surf, what you drive, where you drive, your calls your finances it's all for sale and untraceable.
Should be options now for all installs and any upgrades, install with or w/o AI, consumers being forced to onboard wherein never bought a product to invade their privacy and this does..constitutionally should be legally challenged
Too late. AI is everywhere and has already been in your search engines behind the scenes before the emergence of this Chat stuff. Only difference is enhanced user access beyond voice recognition and such.
We don't think so would be irresponsible to say regarding user privacy, but context is everything... she was talking about opinions there, that Elon is entitled to think his opinions and so are they to think the way they do about their partnership.
Elon calls it spyware, but Mira doesn't care. 🍏🤖
Could this be the start of a new affair? 😍
I've got popcorn to prepare! 🍿
Lmao
When you are so woke you even have to apologize for saying someone's name
Why is she CTO? just a pragmatic role because it doesn't sound like she is a top level AI researcher
Keep in mind that Elon Musk had requested to take over openai, but the company refused, so he left.
I believe he was instrumental if not the creator of the company
He was one of the founders. He invested about 20 million till 2018. When Sam Altman started doing an about turn in the original mission of keeping it Open. Goes to show how biased people are about Elon because of their own belief systems. Now what you get is Word salad from people like Mira when they are asked for truth.
wow the interviewer had 20 minutes and she spent the first one on gossip, next 2 with fluff and then asks a kind of silly "first question" then follows with stuff we all could just look up. that's why it's better to have engineers getting to interview them-- stupid questions lead to answers that don't satisfy, but it's not Murati's fault the questions sucked
Stop the negative comments Please. Mira Murati is a great leader and I have complete respect to her and 101 trust her decisions.
CTO doesn’t know what data was used to train its own models!!🙀
Who u ?
Why do you trust her?
@@HaxxBlaster I don't think he does. I believe it's something called sarcasm. However, if he isn't being sarcastic, I feel bad for this individual.
@@Timely-ud4rm I do hope it's sarcasm, but unfortunately many people are like this. Just look at politics and fanboyism, its the same type of mindset many people have
The teen body language, shoulder and hand shrugs, not reassuring. Mira, answer like a CEO please
She's not a CEO and honestly shouldnt be answering questions meant for a CEO. She is esponsible for overseeing and guiding an organization's technology strategy, direction, and implementation not talking to the press. Apple has pushed the industry forward with their architecture and focus on privacy. Elon is just still whining because he knows this is one area his AI will never be after taking his ball and going home because they wouldn't name him CEO.
'Obviously....I am not qualified to answer this because I am paid to be the pretty sweet female CTO press officer'
This woman hasnt given a single good answer that I have seen. As a OpenAI supporter, id be a bit concerned
Looks can take you very far in life, but they can’t help you answer difficult questions.
The answer is just like the question-rhetoric.
Nowadays, every significant piece of software is spyware or could be turned into spyware with the flip of a switch.
So please ask her another question next time :)
I don't think she was the right person to be a CTO of such a very critical (and dangerously innovative) technology company. I've heard so many CTOs and CPOs speak in lengthy conversations, but she doesn't sound even 10% responsible.
That response was underwhelming for Fortune Magazine’s 57th Most Powerful Woman. Her demeanor reminded me of Fiona Apple in her interviews.
Elon is right !
How? OpenAI is only getting the prompt you asked, not any personal data…
@@ΒύρωναςΛαδιάςIt stores all your data if you access through chatGPT through. And this is a classic bait and switch technique. It'll start like this, then eventually they'll move people over to chatGPT or just integrate the models directly into the OS.
The Optout model is also only temporary while people get used to the tech. Eventually there will be no opt out.
OpenAi has lost our it's mission. All the people that actually cared and championed true privacy and security were pushed out or left.
On what specifically?
@@ΒύρωναςΛαδιάςHow can the model respond with relevant answers if the data is not provided to it? Guessing its a kind of RAG setup, which means the data is sent to the model, i might be wrong though
@@HaxxBlaster ChatGPT is only used when asking general knowledge questions or stuff like recipes. Only the prompt is needed to asnwer those (or the picture, if that's included in the prompt), not any additional data
Apple introduced it's own, privacy-focused "AI" and ChatGPT is more like of an optional fallback the user is prompted to actively agree for usage.
She is so insanely unimpressive.
Mira Murati creeps me out.
I didn't see her saying anything wrong... It's easy to write here and always judge people but first look at yourself and make sure you do a good job at wiping your butt... Just saying!
After samsungs mishap, I think they're not wrong for taking preventive measures
Her hesitant and nonchalant reply doesn’t give people confidence that she’s telling the truth.
Ask Elon to explain why it’s a creepy spying nightmare, then compare it to how the actual Apple integration actually works. His complaint is not based in reality.
what about Tesla’s using all the driving data ? They are all the same
By progress they mean - how their money progress in harvesting data. It is not about human progress. Just another money bubble.
It's only spyware if you are not made explicitly aware of what data the app collects about you and how it treats that data, to which you as the end-user will have the choice whether to consent or not...
Terrible response
What a disappointment! The interviewer is "aammm" "aamm" all the time. I would think that people who are experience would conduct better interview. Also, the CTO for Open AI should not speak she does not ever seem to know anything or answers anything with clarity.
Bs interview to nowhere!
Very um impressive as a CTO, with all the money, board please someone else.
So the possible states are these:
1. Apple user with no OpenAI or ChatGPT account - opted out by default and cannot opt in
2. Anything else done outside of that integration would have whatever their OpenAI/ChatGPT account was set to applied to it
3. Apple user with an OpenAI or ChatGPT account that’s opted out who signs into their OpenAI/ChatGPT account in their Apple device’s OS integration - they will be opted out because the OpenAI/ChatGPT account they signed in with is opted out, but they can change that in their OpenAI/ChatGPT account and opt in if they want to
4. Apple user with an OpenAI or ChatGPT account that’s opted in who signs into their OpenAI/ChatGPT account in their Apple device’s OS integration - they will be opted in because the OpenAI/ChatGPT account they signed in with is opted in, but they can change that in their OpenAI/ChatGPT account and opt out if they want to
Opting in or out is only an option for someone’s own OpenAI/ChatGPT account, and that opt-in or opt-out carries over to their Apple device if they set their device up to use that account instead of the default, free integration provided by Apple. If you either don’t have an OpenAI/ChatGPT account, or if you don’t set your Apple device up to use your OpenAI/ChatGPT account, then you cannot be opted in and you will always be opted out because the free Apple integration does not allow anything you send to ChatGPT to be opted in.
Yup, and literally the next question she answered was, 'We are trying to get data from non-GPT users.' So, they want to spy on regular iPhone users? This company is outrageous!
How can you partner with both Apple and with Microsoft? I mean, wasn't the 90s all about the war between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs? I mean, it's great that you're doing what you need to do to bring AI to the masses. It just seems a bit ironic.
Microsoft is winning actually, they own 49% of OpenAI, so Apples money goes to them.
Few remember Microsoft bailing Apple out due to fear of Microsoft being labeled a monopoly.
Not a very prolific communicator for being a CTO
She has no Answer
“Don’t care” that says a lot 😢
There are a lot of smart women in tech. But this is definitely not one of them..
The reality is many men (probably like you) are intimidated and threatened by women who are objectively intelligent and seek to undermine them. That's why women like Mira come into power. Because women like her reinforce a bias that women are less qualified.
She's very smart, she just is bad at PR.

The opting out option sounded a bit vague. I heard that users in general seldom change default settings. Does that mean that OpenAI will train their AI models with data from Apple users unless they opt out? Personally I think it's good for companies to be able to improve their AI models but it has to be very clear how user data is used.
The program asks on your first login after setting up an account whether you want to opt out or not
No - that isn’t for Apple customers - that’s for people who already subscribe to ChatGPT and pay for its services outside of Apple’s ecosystem, and the same will be true if they sign in with their OpenAI account on their Apple device instead of using Apple’s own free (but more limited) version of ChatGPT. Apple customers are opted out by default and will remain so. Only OpenAI/ChatGPT customers are opted in by default, but that’s independent of Apple because it’s based on their agreement own agreement with ChatGPT/OpenAI that they’re paying for directly. It would be true if they were Android users OR Apple users.
As you wish, my love.
