I accidentally bargained that way, something was out of my budget so I left to explore more and decide if I really wanted it, the answer was pretty guaranteed, it was completely my thing. As I apologized and turned around he offered it for nearly half price. I was really confused but obviously accepted
@@Amy_Nicole_Sabas I mean.. most of the actual name brand stuff would only cost like $100-200 to make but they sell them for $1200.. You'd be amazed what people can make a product for and what they sell it for.
@@Eventide215 You think it costs $100 to make and market a $1200 brand name bag? Including labour costs, raw materials, factory equipment and operating costs, tax, marketing, plant, store operating costs/rent?
@@welcometojerry Yes per product it's a lot cheaper than you'd think. The other day I found a bag that was almost the same design as my dream bag, but the price shocked me. I resonated with it soul *preluxz* . It made me understand that beauty doesn't have to be expensive, as long as it fits.
Being someone who’s experienced haggling in the Hong Kong ladies market, while it is stressful it’s really is a funny experience to have as foreigner where prices are usually solid! 😂😂
I just wish it wasn't just a mention, though. As of what she said, it just felt so fake so she wouldn't get in trouble with her more conscious viewers. I wish she would have mentioned how brutal China was being, the five* demands, something more than "oh, there are protests". She doesn't even say what the protests are for. She's in a space as a content creator where she could be so much more conscious, and teach people about injustice in the world. This kinda just felt like a cop-out to me, but IDK.
@@c.valentine-brown1568 I definitely agree that a greater degree of social consciousness needs to be brought into mainstream spaces, but I recognise at the same time the drive for content creators to stay on brand, or at least in their own lane. I don't think Saf has ever really marketed herself with any kind of political allegiances, or even anything other than flippant, lighthearted consumer content. Maybe a good compromise would have been to link to further reading in the comments.
Of course they paid “too much” and that’s *fine*! It’s ridiculous to expect that Americans would pay the same as locals. I feel like Saf’s probably doing better than the sellers hustling every day anyway, might as well make it a good night for them.
this is legit how i feel when I come back to vietnam and shop. My sister is always haggling for literally 5-10 dollars and I'm just like, "girl, we make more money in one day then these people ever see in a week, WHY are we haggling"
@@dr.uracil because it’s dumb to get a thing for (say, 100 HKD) when you can get it for 20 HKD 😂 only a stupid person *wouldn’t* haggle; those vendors purposely set the prices super high just to trick gullible tourists/people.
@@tartaglia. if you’re going somewhere for the experience then your goal is not to get the price as low as you can, the goal is to have fun. Haggling is fun for a lot of people, but in this situation they can just film what they want and business expense everything they bought. So why bother if you can afford it and that’s not why you’re there?
@@k80_ agreed. My mom studied abroad in high school and college, and she has talked a few times about buying a shirt or something without haggling at all and her homestay sister telling her how much she overpaid, when to her it was literally like $5-$15. What she spent on a shirt would feed the family for a week, and for her it was souvenir money, so she saw no reason not to, essentially, do something kind for someone else when it impacted her very little. Yes, the locals have every right to argue for a better price, but as a tourist who can potentially do some good for a family it's far less important, necessary, or in my personal opinion ethical.
i LOVE fashion and accessories that make people look twice because they're just slightly off. i have a bunch of shirts with weird phrases and a realistic fish pencil case. this looks like a market made out of my wildest dreams come true
Here’s a tip , ask for a lower price and pretend to walk away, they’ll think you’re really leaving and they’ll accept your price. It works every time✌️🤡
Went to the Hong Kong night market back in 2004 with friends and had a scary but fun time buying nice fakes in a locked room. Two of us kept waiting for the police to show up and arrest us.
They should've gotten Natalie to haggle for sure. When I went for a couple souvenir things I just hid and made my bf talk in Cantonese lmao and he paid like 1/3 of the price they were showing
I realize many people watched this video ( or re-watch ) but little tip that may or may not helped if you ever going to market like this after Covid. 1. Ask for price at the few first stall you see. Bargain lowest as you want to go ( be heartless and stand your ground). The seller usually just leave you alone after a while trying. This helped you to know the price range for stuff you want. 2. If the seller start / seems angry/annoyed. Thats a good sign. You are onto something (if you westerners, they may say something rude, just ignore it and be on your way. I got called crazy and fat, so yea... Be prepared) 3. Last one may or may not helped. But bring small luggage bag with wheel will helped alot. Especially if you going to buy a lot of stuff. Remember all of this only applied after this pandemic ends, so wear mask, shower and keep your distance. Also, i'm here drinking infused crushed red ginger, it does helped with my body immune system. Stay save, love
Do you think instead of ‘Happy Birthday’ he was trying to say ‘Have a good day’? I can imagine to a non English speaker, that they sound almost the same x
I thought it meant more like happy birthday to him...he said happy birthday to her. But I feel like that was maybe because he made good money on the exchange and was happy about it. That is a might cynical of me though.
As long as you’ve got clothes on your body, a roof over your head and food on your plate, you’re luckier than the majority of the population ❤️ you’re blessed.
Thea Bruknerová Not far off!! I used to live in HK and I would always offer about 20% of the asking price to start with and expect to pay about 40% of what they were asking s
@@vannymarsha5082 well im south east asian so I get that as well when I go to East Asia or south asia. rule of thumb is to start with the lowest possible price (usually half of the presented price) and gradually go up
I think the girl with them didn’t show them she can speak either mandarin or Cantonese(I don’t know what Hong Kong speaks) cause of she did they would of gotten a lower price
Joud Firas thank you! I'm not Muslim, though I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for the religion, people, and culture. I wrap my hair for modesty in a wide variety of styles, and the one in this picture is one of the more hijab-esque methods (but I believe wearing a similar wrap for modest-but-not-religious reasons, it can't actually be called a hijab? I am under the impression that I can't call it that unless I'm Muslim). Thank you for asking, and for the lovely compliment!
hey , thank you for answering me , i understand you know , actually i was just wondering that if you wear the hijab or not , and you can call it a scarf , i am muslim so that what made me ask you that ! it was nice to talk to you
Joud Firas Salam! It's odd for me because I live in a very small, conservative, V E R Y C A U C A S I A N town, so I've only run into a woman out and about in her hijab in my town *once*. I've lived here a year and a half. So it's nice to talk to people who say "nice scarf" instead of "why are you wearing that".
Actually, a lot of the shops in lady's market own a more than 1 tent. So they just call other tents for other sizes. Thank you for coming to Hong Kong. As a HongKonger, I am glad that you have mentioned the unrest situation we are experiencing. I truly hope that the movement is bring us true democracy. Our 5 demands are simple 1. Completely Withdrawal of Extradition Bill 2. Retract the Proclamation that Protesters are Riots 3. Withdraw Charges against Arrested Protesters 4. Thoroughly Investigate Abused Power of Police Force 5. Immediately Implement Dual Universal Suffrage
When haggling for prices in these markets: ALWAYS start around 1/3 of the price! And slowly work your way up but never pay anywhere near asking price. I wouldn’t pay over 50% ever. You guys over paid for everything, like really severely over paid haha 😂

The rule of thumb is you offer them 1/3 of the asking price so if it’s 300 you say 100 not like 255 lol
yes because it probably costed them 10 to make lol... 255 is way too much
@@Amy_Nicole_Sabas I mean.. most of the actual name brand stuff would only cost like $100-200 to make but they sell them for $1200..
Being someone who’s experienced haggling in the Hong Kong ladies market, while it is stressful it’s really is a funny experience to have as foreigner where prices are usually solid! 😂😂
I’m so glad you mentioned the protests and didn’t just pretend it’s not happening!
Maybe a good compromise would have been to link to further reading in the comments.

yes i hate when people said something like "you can do better, cheaper, easier!" or something, when something actually already HAPPENED
this is legit how i feel when I come back to vietnam and shop.

Be prepared)
