    This is very refreshing to hear from someone from Africa instead of someone from another Western country. Those are also very informative but the gap between Africa and The Netherlands is huuuuge. Note since 2020 it's just The Netherlands... Holland is no longer a formal name. I know as Dutch we use Holland all the time but formally it's incorrect. Holland actually refers to only Zuid Holland and Noord Holland...

    In summary: Plan you life beforehand. Learn the language a bit beforehand. Get some money beforehand to rent a house. Find one beforehand. Find a job beforehand. Don't just hop on an airplane and see what the future brings. It does not work like that in this country.

    Welcome David,
    Its a huge step to take in these days it must be possible to find a job, but finding a place to stay/rent its hard here right now.
    Am born in Harare, Lochinvar btw.
    Edza kutsvaga musanganiswa wekugara nekushanda. This country is in desperate need of employees, so it must be possible though.
    ( "I wanna work for you but only in a combination with work") The no you have, the yes you can get, your biggest weapon is being you.
    Good luck in the future David!

    Exactly, Zimbabwe is 9x bigger than The Netherlands, that is why we have a problem when everyone from there comes here.
    Many African countries aren't performing well, when a young generation of Africans will move out, this will be a disaster for Africa.

    Yup never walk/stand on the bike lane. Do that on a normal road and the car will honk and hit the brakes, but on the bike lane the Dutch will only slightly alter their course and whisk full speed right past you. I know that because I do that too 🙂

    On the whole holland vs netherlands thing, holland is just the combined name of 2 of the provinces, while the netherlands actually does mean the whole country, so yeah though most people do get ut when you say holland to represent the whole thing, saying the netherlands is more correct (and slightly less likely to offend people though barely anyone cares)

    The country is called the Netherlands and not Holland. Holland are the 2 provincies (areas) Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland.
    But good luck here in the Netherlands.

  • @thommyneter168
    @thommyneter168 Рік тому

    Good luck in our country, try to enjoy the good parts, and adjust a bit to the bad parts of our country. Then you'll really like it here.
    Your English is definitely good enough for finding a job.
    I don't know if you have some other skills you've already learned, but in de big cities I think it's doable to work in coffee houses or some restaurants with just English.
    As for learning the language, it will be one of the best ways to get some friends, as it is pretty hard getting dutch friends with only talking English. A good way to start is buying/borrowing children's books to get a hang of grammar and some basic words.
    Good luck with finding a house, it'll be hard but eventually you'll succeed.

      Lol that's funny what you say about his English. Most Zimbabweans speak and write better English than we British. Partly due to their educational standards not having slipped as much, I'm lucky to have been the last school year to sit 'O' levels rather than GCSEs, in Zim they still sit 'O' levels.

    Hi bro, don't be disparaged by a couple of commenters here saying you shouldn't be surprised that everything is in Dutch. I met dozens of Spanish and Italians who came to NL ''for to learn English'' and seemed unaware of the existence of Dutch. Also many Europeans think that Africa is a country, and even the ones that don't think that it's a one hour plane journey from Ghana to Zim lol.

      ''quite bad'' ? are you ok my friend? we speak dutch here you should be happy enough that we speak english too, why would we put stuff in english this is some colonizer mindset, we are not a english colony.

    • @jurgenolivieira1878
      @jurgenolivieira1878 2 роки тому

      @@r.a.h7682 That's the most ignorant borderline natiolist thing I've ever read on YT "my friend". English is THE international language and in just about every major tourist friendly country you will find multi-langauge guidance spoken or written all over the place. Some countries even have Dutch instuctions as well (omg it's colonization)... have you even ever been to other countries?
      Also in airplanes the instructions are always explained in the native language of the country and in English. Even here in trains and trams you will find instruction in Dutch, German, French, Spanish and English on the same sign.
      Are you afraid of German, French and Spanish colonization too? You seem to forget the Dutch through rape, torture and murder made millions of victims all over the world in their "Golden Age" to get their hands on valuable resources. Resources that made this country very, very rich something we both enjoy and now you dare complain about colonization because someone thinks English instructions are a good idea!
      Continiued.. In Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam a.o. the tram/bus/train driver will announce tourist spots in Dutch and English. In the end it's all about economics... the easier tourists can find their way, the more they will spend and the more likely they will come back and tell their friends to come too. Not to colonize of course... just for a holiday. ha ha ha
      Ik ben gewoon een Nederlander voor de duidelijkheid en schaam me kapot voor reacties als de jouwe. In ieder geval prettige dag verder en doe je maat Wilders de groeten voor me als je hem ziet vanavond.

    Your curses scared the fucking crap out of me. And brought extra attention towards your cursing. I was like oh this man curses. I do curse myself. So it didn't matter to me. But my mother didn't feel the same way, because she startled too. The more survivalistic nature of my mother takes over as she is startled and you know something gets thrown.
    Which is understandable because my mother is afraid of birds because of some birdhorrormovie so I understand.
