fun fact the Netherlands has a very old markt (market) history it dates back (according to the first known documentary about it) to the year 1040

it is difficult to say exactly, because documentation of such a long history may have been lost, but Zwolle is probably the first city to receive market rights around the year 1040. markets owe their existence to the Romans who had garrisoned here and the soldiers had to be provided with fresh food and drink

A lot of Dutch cities have a market on Saturdays, and also on some of the weekdays, but that differs per city / neighborhood. And some bigger cities (such as Rotterdam) have multiple ones in different districts :) Interesting to see you perceive it so similar as an African market, although I can imagine :)

@@vadechronicles In cities it is often a day market, so every day or several days a week. In towns it is a weekly market, so one day a week. In my town (of about 20,000 inhabitants) the weekly market is at Thursdays from 11:00 to 17:00hrs on the town square.

Hey! Yes it’s actually cheaper than in stores
In the Sixties in advertising they used the frase: "op de markt is je gulden een daalder waard".
Meaning: "At the market your guilder is worth a daalder". Where a daalder is 1,5 guilder. Although the daalder was abandoned in the nineteenth century it is still known in many sayings.
