- Former ballerina Ashley Benefield was convicted of manslaughter over the shooting death of her estranged husband. Benefield claimed her husband abused her and that she shot him in self-defense after he smacked her. Prosecutors argued the shooting was premeditated so that she could gain sole custody over their young daughter. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date. Benefield faces up to 30 years in prison.
Who marries someone after 12 days??? Yikes!!!
EXACTLY!!!!!
My nephew
Yikes!
I agree with you.
Desperate people
Aren't juries supposed to be made up of 12 people?
Florida has 6 plus 2 alternates
It depends
@@anthonymort5202 Depends on what?
@@neeldani7450 whether it's district or a federal court which state you're in sometimes maybe even which county you're in
@@anthonymort5202 I see that federal courts have 12. State courts can have a minimum of 6.
She thought she was going to get away with that NOT
I can't believe people kill their lovers!
@@EstellaaSlays-x7y copied my whole message
Absolutely.......I cannot stretch my mind far enough to imagine taking a life, unless it was 100% necessary for protection of self or family. The lack of any emotion this lady displyed when the verdict was read tells me a lot.
It seems we aren't all just looking for love.
Welcome to America

Deadlocked?? Then “a short time later came back with a guilty verdict”.
Jurors got tired I guess.
No, it is because there were people saying guilty of murder and some saying manslaughter. They agreed that neither side was going to budge. The judge then changed the burden of the jurors to allow for more compromise.
OMG same thought!
watch her get 4 years

Right 4 years 😢 sad ! 😊

Based on the evidence… she was guilty all day and based on just a story she was also guilty.
The family should not have had EMERS0N on display outside of the courthouse protesting. How disgusting and manipulative.
zero emotion in her eyes
Why didnt she call the police if her hubby was abusing her? Liar!
She don’t think, she wanted to end things right away and tries to come with self defense as her only way to get out.
@@ponytah1735 By taking the law in the her own hands?!
Maybe she did and not all women can call the police when being beat, you try it!!

The fact that the little girl Emerson was marching with a sign tells a lot of us, all you need to know... that is _NOT_ okay. And in my opinion, even as a DV & SA survivor, _that_ shows the type of manipulator Ashley is. That's actually very concerning! It's not like she is a teenager. She's only 6/7 years old!
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
She should’ve thought of her daughter before killing her husband
I hope she gets at least 30 years, she took a life that cannot be undone.
Manslaughter!? Really?
Manslaughter is 😢very sad 😔
When it’s a murder that wasn’t premeditated and done without malice it’s called manslaughter (I’m reading that from the legal definition of manslaughter).
So yeah… it’s manslaughter.
dude, manslaughter is when you kill someone unintentionally. Whether premeditated or done in passion, she intentionally murdered him in cold blood which should amount to at least murder in the 3rd degree but because the jury was vastly made up of women, she'll get out in 4 years on appeal. There was no justice done here. Only misandry.
@@nocturnalrecluse1216Ok so I tried to reply once but I think my comment gliched.
There’s 2 kinds of manslaughter. The definition you just gave is the definition of involuntary manslaughter, which is the act of involuntarily ending the life of a person (usually due to negligence)
Then there’s voluntary manslaughter, which is the act of ending a life without premeditation (in the heat of the moment) regardless of whether you had killing intention or not. If it was in the spur of the moment then it was manslaughter.
Also there was never any evidence that said she murdered him in cold blood. Unless everyone (even the cops) were missing something.
Probably counted prove premeditation for first degree murder.
I think the stepdaughter should take care of her daughter.
Yeah but likely she’ll be placed in CPS custody depending on the stepdaughter’s living conditions and other factors
@@Ryan_astino, she likely will be raised by the grandmother bc that is who she is most familiar with, and the closest to. There will no doubt be a whole process to determine where she ends up, but i have no doubt that it will be with the grandmother.
Bad idea
No, she’s only in her early 20’s. She’s still figuring out life herself. She should be allowed visitation rights with her sister though.
Why?
I could imagine her doing twirls as she killed him. 😂😭
The Avengers aren't good enough anymore.
Agreed. Its nothing.
Ok how does that have something to do with case?
Manslaughter 30 years
Well she be in her 50s or 60s
Lots of time to change your life inside the wall
Shouldn't of killed your daughter's father
Now she has neither parent
Jesus protect that little precious girl
Wow emotionless after being found guilty yeah what self defense when his back is turned it’s so horrible
Hearing the teenage step daughter makes me believe the ballerina is not so pretty in the inside.
She had 2 guns in house with 2year old. She left him for being abusive 3 year earlier but decided to reconcile with him. She was mentally ill before believing he was poisoning her with metal in food. So is she traumatized because she killed a man or because she was afraid of eminent danger?
Another woman with false claims if he was that abusive to her she should have been called the laws on him
Oh, she would have? So that proves my point that men saying they get abused too is false or they would've called the cops lol
Her claims weren't false and she did file against him. It just didn't meet the standard for defense. Man slaughter is a much lesser charge not the same
Um...yeah that's not always the case
@@justingraves9029 did not see each other for 3 yrs! So why did she change her mind? Needed $$$?
Imagine facing 5 harridans having to deliver the argument "At least don't make it Not Guilty!" And walk away from there successful.
Couldn't be Bill Burr.
Justice is not served when a first degree murderer walks away with a manslaughter charge. Doug Benefield apologized for every wrong move he made, while Ashley made many more wrong moves and has no regret, no remorse, takes no responsibility. This makes her a thousand times more dangerous. She deserves life in prison.
imagine being that 1 male juror...
...trying to deliberate with all those women.
Thank goodness he was there or else they would have found a way to find her not guilty

Such a shame and harsh indeed. She knew well that she kill him in a act of vengeance.
No body bought her sob story. "I was scared." Pfft.

30 years !! Should have thought before she acted on this. Her actions now put her young little girl into a world of the unknown. Don't know if they have grandparents to take care of her or someone else to be her legal guardian. But I feel for this poor little girl, with no mother and no father now. This young one will face hardships growing up.

That little girl should have been isolated from much of this. Not given a sign and told to protest.
Throw away the key. Terrible girl.

No emotion proves something
Well later days it makes me wonder how the stepdad is going to feel about her half sister🤔
Thank God .she has no respect for life and this is very sad.
Why would this man's older daughter defend her father? Because she had a bad feeling about her ballerina step mom and not have a bad memory even of her geriatric father. If ballerina could prove via an ex girlfriend of his even that geriatric dad likes to slap women then it's manslaughter but if not this is premeditated murder.
SORRY TO SEE THIS
Poor wanabe balerina!... she wanted her daugther to herself...got karma!!!. Also she blew it when showed up lookinh terrible..no make up..ugly hair..etc.etc.. her daugther will taken care by her grandmother..😮

Only 6 jurors
For God's sake, she was never a ballerina. She's a murder though.
Isn't she a trained ballet dancer who has performed on stage?
That kid’s sign was in no way written by an adult.
I don’t think so that wouldn’t be a good idea because the little girl is obviously on her mom side and the stepdaughters is clearly on her dad‘s side so I don’t think that would be a good idea not right now. There needs to be more healing and counseling and all that and they need to just have small visits with each other and be able to heal before that could even be thought about.
It could have been but done in a way that would make it look like a child did it
She may have been in danger, did anyone ever think about that?” I was married to a man that I didn’t know had spent 11 years in prison for murder til after I married him, he became abusive and then he invited his nephew to come and stay with us , a few weeks later he tried to kill his nephew with a gun and nephew ran away and hid from him and then went to police and filed charges on him , he got time and while he was locked up I divorced him, when he was set free he was never allowed to be back in the state ever again, and you probably guessed it that how I found out he had done time for murder,
There was only 6 people on the jury?
Wow! Sad all the way around.
I don’t trust teens. They can be nasty too in families like this.

I hope you get your karma times 3 for what you did to your child. If people can love each other enough to have children, they should take parenting through separations before they have kids. Not only did you take yourself out of the picture for raising your daughter by taking the father's life. She is now alone. She does not have a biological parent fit enough to raise her and that is sad.
She paid to have his vasectomy reverse even! They only lived together a short time and separately I believe like 3 years. She was keeping the child away from him, like he was just a donor for sperm and $$
