My favorite detail is when he yells out "I'm free" he breaks through the edges of the screen turning it from a widescreen perspective to a full screen perspective symbolizing his freedom even more.
Also to add to this - a lot of the animators are from ________ (unnamed) studio, and the work badges and some of the details are made to look like their exploitative previous studio
fun fact: The building where our mc worked was different in the manga. In the anime, the building is directly based on the animators' previous workplace.
I'd like to say, never stop analyzing the way you did. That absolute burst of passion is my favorite thing to see from content creation at any level or area. Even if I'm not passionate about a thing, its so wonderful to watch someone who is passionate about something BE passionate about it and lost in that moment
Hoo boy! Your reaction to Akira's deep depression made me remember the really tough times I went through a couple of years ago in the pandemic. I cried along with you for a bit there! I don't watch many of the streams, and I'm not sure you'll see this, but I want you to know that what you said made me feel a little bit better about what I went through and what I'm still dealing with. Rock on Alicia :)
💖 I see you and I’m proud of you for talking about it. Day by day you got this. The pandemic was fucked and a lot of us got hit mentally indifferent ways, it’s okay to still be affected by that. We just got improve the amount or brains will let us each day
For a fun fact: Bug Films is a studio that was put together back in 2021 specifically for the purpose of working on this series. It’s basically the same situation as Bind Studio being put together specifically to animate Mushoku Tensei.
Apparently the logo for his company is based off a company the pwople that made this anime used to work for, both in logo appearance, and how evil it was
So I heard an interesting fact about this anime. It's produced by a new studio called BUG FILMS and apparently a lot of the employees come from an animation studio that could be classed as a "black" or exploitive company. So this is really a passion project for a lot of them and I think this is made partly to rise awareness of the issue. While Japan work culture is a lot of hard work and different to the west they do frown heavily on these kind of these companies. The only problem is that employees rarely come forward to report it to authorities due to how the culture is. They never want to cause a problem for their other workers. Another part of their culture is never taking days off as it affects the other workers. See the problem with their work culture is that they're a little too selfless which is fine most of the time but some of them push themselves too far and in some cases it gets very bad.
Not just any studio, but apparently OLM, and they are throwing shade to it, the building is the same shape and the Employee cards have a similar logo that says ZLM
In all honesty, I can relate to this guy. Every job I've had until the one I've got right now has made me want to quit within 3 months of working it. Thankfully, I was able to rely on my parents and live with them until I found new jobs in-between. If I didn't have their support, I probably would have felt forced to stick with one of the REALLY bad ones and slowly lost my will to live AND die simultaneously like this guy. The job I've got now though, GREAT place to work, and my coworkers are amazing people. It's long hours, but I'm satisfied with the freedom and leeway they give us. They treat us like people at my current job, the pay's good, and it doesn't absolutely KILL me by the end of every shift. A job shouldn't make you feel trapped, it should be where you go to make money to survive and live your life outside of it.
The bit where he's the one talking to the client, you could maybe attribute it to the company having a really harsh burn-out rate, meaning than even though he's only been there 3 years he's getting more responsibilities put on him than he normally would? The scene where the department chief told him Takahashi was out, he threw away Takahashi's name tag from the schedule board, so I assume that was a guy in charge of a project quitting?
The first impression from this anime is amazing! Everything from the animation, the voice acting, right down to the opening theme song (performed by Kana Boon). Edit: Bug Films absolutely nailed Zom 100.
The first episode is everything perfect about this show. The animation, the coloring, the introductions, everything. This is something I always say and I will stand for, but Ohtori didn’t deserve to end up where she was. I understand as to why they made her become a zombie, but still man
Love that you don't dislike CG in anime. I used to dislike the idea largely because of community ideas when i first started watching anime but watching ajin made me understand that even 'bad' cg can tell pretty compelling stories and then, i saw works from studio ufotable and i was completely sold. Ultimately it's just about doing it correctly, what tools you use don't matter, and that was a pretty awesome thing to learn for me. Hope more people come to appreciate CG and not reject it just because. Also, to give credit where credit is due, Bug films did a great job with animation here. Looking at their MAL, it's their first show but it might be another case of professional animators leaving another studio to start a new one. Either way, awesome work. Edit: Yep, it has people that worked on Fire Force, Summertime Render, Food Wars and Arakawa under the bridge. Shoutout to the last one cause i kinda think about it even these days once in a while even though i only watched it once like 6 years ago lol.
I think you missed the part where this is a Exploitive Company, a type of company that abuses their employees so badly, like extreme violations of worker rights, these companies in Japan exist and have a high turnover rate, as well as a high self-deletion rate the employees
Yeah I nearly skipped this because I am sick of zombies. But after the first episode this is the most hype series for a while for me. The animation and humor was amazing.
This might honestly become my favourite anime of all time, when it was announced I was like “This looks interesting, I might give it a shot”, but now after I have watched episode two, I can tell you that I’m enjoying this anime way more then I expected.
I was so hyped for this show. It's been so long since i've seen a good zombie anime, and this is what i was waiting for. And it is even more than just "we live a normal live and then boom zombies we gotta survive"
Not only is the manga getting a anime adaptation but also a live action one as well. Its a studio in japan so it won't be butchered. Although it will be released on netflix.
Bruh, imagine the woman that you've been in love with at where you work is having her back blown out by your boss in the other room and you're hearing her moans. 🤣
"ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead," while fitting the "XYZ of the Dead" naming convention of the episodes/chapters, isn't exactly a 100%-faithful title translation. the actual title is "ゾンビになるまでにしたい100のこと" (ZOMBIE ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto), which directly translates to "100 Things I Want to Do Before I Become a Zombie," which "ZOM100" is short for. Just a lil fun fact for you here ^^
Love the use of color in this episode. How it turns the horrors of a Zombie Apocolypse into a Manic fucking rave to contrast it from the corporate hellscape. Fucking Based.
I'll be honest, I watched the first two episodes because I saw you put out that reaction video. I was impressed by the animation and the story, I wasn't necessarily expecting much, but it could be the anime of the season (which wouldn't be a sequel, a remake, etc). For our hero, I might not be the only one or maybe I would, but I think he looks like Luffy, especially when he has a big smile. One more reason for you to appreciate him :).
ngl im kinda like that. not to that extreme yet but im the person that has dirty plates, garbage, dirty clothes in my room and i feel like i cant clean it cause my like.. 2 days off i end up making sure im with my dog outside.. or just sleeping cause im exhausted from work.
I remember seeing the first episode and thinking 'I wonder if Alicia will ever see this'. I'm not a big film buff, but the directing of this episode blew even me away.
TW: Mentions of depression and suicide The thing about "Oh everyone's had suicidal thoughts, right?" No, they don't, the normal amount of depression for a person, should be zero, the same with suicidal thoughts. It just shows that in our society, depression and suicidal thoughts have become so common place that its been normalized, when it shouldn't. People are suffering so much around the world, so many taking anti-depressants, and/or self medicating with drugs (as I do with weed), just to keep living and surviving. I myself had a lot of suicidal thoughts when I worked as a cashier, I had multiple panic attacks, constant high blood pressure, and the stress of it all was making my hair fall out. I was so miserable, like yeah I was making a little bit of money and buying myself cool stuff (since I live with a family member and don't have to pay rent), but it drained so much physical and mental energy from me, just as a part time cashier (20-25 hours). I quit back in the beginning of March, and the day before I quit, I had to end my shift after just an hour of being there, because my blood pressure was so high I could barely breathe and my vision was getting wonky. My supervisor also said something to me that day that made me so angry, I walked 2 miles back home so I could walk off the stress and anger. Plus, I got hired as a dishwasher recently, then was promptly fired 3 hours into my first shift, for having a panic attack... So to me, the idea that as an adult (20 y.o.), I have to work 40-60 hours a week, for the next 50 years of my life, living with random people so I can afford rent, just so I can survive ? Brings me so much stress that I just want to shut down. As well as being in the US and having medical issues? Makes it even worse. So I have no idea what I can do to be considered a "functional adult", cuz right now, I don't think working is gonna work out for me.....
Pretty major spoiler ahead This your warning, don't keep going if you don't want spoilers. The first female character that's introduced the mc seems to have a crush on. The story progresses and after she joins the group, the romance sub-plot naturally and organically dissolves, until it's just the main group being the goon squad together, and honestly the story is much better for it. As of currently in the manga, it hasn't been rekindled, but the group vibing as friends enjoying life in the apocalypse is fucking fantastic.
2:39 I don't hate CG in anime, but in cases like Trigun Stampede, I hate when they blow their budget on the CG, and everything else suffers because of it.
Intern in our med school is 14 hrs non stop and it's fuckin brutal. Everyday for a whole year, if ur late for 5mins a whole day of work is added in ur year. Miss a day and its 5 days added.
I'm literally crying and laughing while watching these reactions and then she switches to something interesting that makes me think about it. I feel like I have so much to say, but most of it is very parosocial, I think... Well, this comment felt weird alright.
I've been reading this manga. It's awesome so far. _DOOM_ and _DOOM Eternal_ both have excellent sound design. You can tell where everything is without seeing it on the screen, and the music changes with you.
I was JUST about to comment on a video that you should check this out, as someone who had read this manga years ago and got left alone when the author went on Hiatus, THIS SHOW HAS FELT LIKE A BLESSING FROM GOD HIMSELF!! Also, the manga came off of hiatus, no idea when but i binge read and i loved it, it was just as beautiful as the day i lost it lol
Saori Ohtori. Man, she about to make me act UP fr fr. I've never been this down bad for an anime character since Yoruichi. Just unhinge the jaw. Zom head would go crazy.
You understand the splash of rainbow colors on the zombie right? They are all blood. I ask because a lot of reactors are asking why there are paint in the zombies. Please dont be one of those hahaha
Its not that i cant clean, i know i could, i just.....dont care anymore...its the only way i can continue to exist. The swarm of flies above my head, the roaches crawling in and out of my electronics destroying them, the parade of ants making their way to their feast......none of it matters anymore. My dreams, hopes, desires, and interest turn into ash in my mouth. I only live to exist and pray for the inevitable end that cant come soon enough. If i still cared, i would already be dead.
Alicia: "having cancer is better than the place i have been (mentally)." Zom 100: "Zombie Apocalypse ist better than Corporate slavery." Alicia: "That's crazy." Hello ms Kettle this is pot.
another fun cloverpegs fact: the first chapter was NOT AT ALL ashamed to just fully draw ootori's tits. like in full detail. to quote myself and my boyfriend, who have said this on numerous occasions, "the tits in the beginning of ZOM 100 are just the most beautiful tits that have ever been drawn in any media ever" am i upset that they were censored in the anime? well, given the anime is _this_ cool.... not really!
After watching you film-geek over Chainsaw Man, I was happy to see that you were picking up Zom 100. They made a ton of great design choices in this episode.
Moments like this i am lost ya pretty amazing dark at times but more respect at ya Also i love how you admire the animation its nice trully good animation work and art
That would’ve been me if a zombie apocalypse happened while I was in school XD Not thinking about the world ending or people dying, I DON’T HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL ANYMOOOOOOOORE! XD
There are times when I wish this would happen so I don't have to go to work but then I realized if that happens I never see the end of One Piece or Jojo part 7 being animated
So to those that don't know in japan there are what's reffered to as black companies (or reather exploitative companies) where there is a lot of bad sh*t that goes on with even cases of people dying from being over worked. Assuming you're intrested in learning more there is a great vid by a channel called let's ask shogo as well a a bunch of other great videos
12:10 "Tell me you smash." Oh... Oh boy, as a manga reader and anime watcher... Oh boy Edit: just gonna use this comment to list things that I'd have pointed out I would never do unpaid overtime unless i made a mistake that i had to handle or if I REALLY loved my job and just wanted to make sure something was perfect Akira is so much stronger than so many people, myself, if I'd have been going through that level of abuse, if I was that mentally broken, that empty inside after all that time... I don't know what I'd have done. I'd have broken, I might have hurt someone, hurt the boss, myself, I'd eventually have just snapped, probably wouldn't even realize what I was doing. And the worst part is that people suffer through this, and Akira's experience was not exaggerated in the slightest, in Japan for sure and definitely more countries, black companies(the term for these predatory businesses) practically trap people like this in a perpetual cycle of depending on their paycheck, forcing them to do their "best" for the company while never rewarding them for it, because they want that cram culture and giving 100% even when you're not healthy enough to do so, they want that to become what employees register as normal.
My favorite detail is when he yells out "I'm free" he breaks through the edges of the screen turning it from a widescreen perspective to a full screen perspective symbolizing his freedom even more.
Good use of changing aspect ratio will always now remind me of _Because of You_ .
I hadn't noticed that, THAT IS SO COOOOOL!!!!!
I love those visual proposals, like the use of bars in projects like Pootis Engage (although that's something more than a meme, it's great)
the studio was actually made for this anime, this is the first anime of this studio. Imagine creating a studio to make an anime for a manga.
Also to add to this - a lot of the animators are from ________ (unnamed) studio, and the work badges and some of the details are made to look like their exploitative previous studio
It is actually not the first studio created for a series, studio bind (mushoku tensei) and studio shuka (durarara) were also created for those shows

the manga has been on my bucket list (pun kinda intended) for a while and now that it’s been animated this anime is AMAZING
Read the manga bro, trust me, if you have the time to read it, you won't regret spending it to read Zom100

Surprising thing....the guy reminds me of Tadano from Komi Can't Communicate and the story is like HOTD bit more positive 😆
If i still cared, i would already be dead.
yooo zom 100!! It's off to such a great start
I've said this before somewhere else, but with a zombie apocalypse people think it'll be the Walking Dead when it'll actually be this and Zombieland
Alicia: "having cancer is better than the place i have been (mentally)."
Zom 100: "Zombie Apocalypse ist better than Corporate slavery."
Alicia: "That's crazy."
Hello ms Kettle this is pot.
another fun cloverpegs fact: the first chapter was NOT AT ALL ashamed to just fully draw ootori's tits. like in full detail. to quote myself and my boyfriend, who have said this on numerous occasions, "the tits in the beginning of ZOM 100 are just the most beautiful tits that have ever been drawn in any media ever"
am i upset that they were censored in the anime? well, given the anime is _this_ cool.... not really!
Glad to see you doing this show, IMO it's one of the top 3 shows of the season.
After watching you film-geek over Chainsaw Man, I was happy to see that you were picking up Zom 100. They made a ton of great design choices in this episode.
You have a great outlook on life that's awesome
I think everyone has intrusive thoughts about jumping in front of a train 😅
38:34 and the competition is rapidly decreasing
Moments like this i am lost ya pretty amazing dark at times but more respect at ya
Also i love how you admire the animation its nice trully good animation work and art
It’s animated by the studio that does pokemon and komi can’t communicate
That would’ve been me if a zombie apocalypse happened while I was in school XD Not thinking about the world ending or people dying, I DON’T HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL ANYMOOOOOOOORE! XD
I am already in love with this anime.
There are times when I wish this would happen so I don't have to go to work but then I realized if that happens I never see the end of One Piece or Jojo part 7 being animated
SHE CAN SEE THE FUTURE!
I love it when CG in anime is done super well also I had to watch the 3 episodes today
My favorite CG anime is Houseki no kuni, hands down, The smoothest CG animation an anime can have.
12:10 "Tell me you smash." Oh... Oh boy, as a manga reader and anime watcher... Oh boy
Edit: just gonna use this comment to list things that I'd have pointed out
I would never do unpaid overtime unless i made a mistake that i had to handle or if I REALLY loved my job and just wanted to make sure something was perfect
Akira is so much stronger than so many people, myself, if I'd have been going through that level of abuse, if I was that mentally broken, that empty inside after all that time...
